Chapter 4 AN INEVITABLE FATE

1. NADINE – SHADOWS OF THE PAST

The night felt eerily quiet. A slow breeze carried an unsettling presence, as if something lurked in the darkness. Nadine stood on the balcony of Lucas's apartment, her empty gaze fixed on the busy city streets below. Neon lights flickered in shades of blue and red, casting distorted shadows against the window.

Her heart felt heavy. Ever since that anonymous message appeared, her mind had not been at peace. Something deep inside her kept whispering that Adrian was never truly gone. That he was always nearby, waiting for the right moment to take her back.

Her fingers tightened around the cold metal railing.

Adrian Callway.

That name was like poison in her veins. She had always known he was different. No one could truly fight Adrian and win. Everyone who tried to defy him eventually crumbled.

But Nadine had fought long enough. She refused to fall into his trap again. She refused to feel the fear that had once nearly destroyed her.

"Nadine?"

Lucas's voice pulled her from her thoughts. She turned to see him standing in the doorway, concern etched across his face.

"Are you okay?" he asked, stepping closer.

Nadine gave a small nod, though deep down, she knew that was far from the truth. "I just... feel like something is wrong."

Lucas studied her closely. "So do I."

He exhaled before pulling out his phone and showing her something-recent business transactions involving Adrian Callway's company.

"There's no way he could be doing all this from inside a prison," Lucas said. "And if he's really out, it means someone in the system helped him escape."

Nadine's heart pounded.

"So... he's really free?" Her voice trembled.

Lucas clenched his jaw. "I don't have solid proof yet, but all the signs point to it."

Nadine's vision blurred with tears. "Then we're in danger, Lucas."

Lucas's grip on her shoulders tightened. "I won't let him touch you again. I promise."

But deep inside, Nadine knew-a promise wouldn't be enough to stop Adrian.

Because Adrian was not the kind of man who backed down.

2. ADRIAN – SHATTERING HOPE

From inside his car parked down the street, Adrian watched the apartment.

He could see her.

Nadine, standing on the balcony. Lucas, standing beside her.

His eyes darkened, his jaw tightening.

That should be me.

Adrian pulled out his phone and typed a message.

Adrian: I was never really gone, Nadine.

He waited.

Just seconds later, he saw Nadine's body tense as she picked up her phone. He could imagine the fear on her face, the way her lips would quiver slightly, the way her eyes would widen in shock.

He lived for this moment.

The moment she realized there was no place safe enough for her. That no matter how hard she tried to run, she would always end up back in the same place-in his hands.

He shut off his phone, a slow smile creeping across his lips.

Everything was going exactly as planned.

3. QUEEN DIOR – STANDING AT A CROSSROAD

Queen Dior stared at her phone, torn between emotions.

Lucas had just texted her, asking for her help in investigating Adrian. But at the same time, her mind was consumed with feelings she couldn't quite control.

She loved Lucas.

She had always loved him.

But she had always been nothing more than a shadow in his story with Nadine.

If Adrian was truly back... didn't that mean Lucas would only grow closer to Nadine?

Didn't that mean she would lose her chance at ever being with him?

Her hands trembled.

She could choose to help Lucas and Nadine... or she could choose herself.

Her heart pounded.

This decision would change everything.

4. THE INEVITABLE ENCOUNTER

That night, Nadine sat inside Lucas's apartment, trying to steady her breathing. Lucas was on the phone in the other room, deep in discussion.

Then suddenly-

A soft tapping noise came from the window.

Nadine froze.

That was impossible. They were on the third floor.

Holding her breath, she slowly turned her head toward the window.

And there he was.

Adrian.

Standing outside, staring directly into her room with cold, possessive eyes.

Nadine's heart nearly stopped.

Before she could scream, her phone vibrated.

Adrian: Open the door, Nadine. Don't make me wait.

Her fingers clenched around the phone, her entire body paralyzed with fear.

Lucas was still in the other room.

She had to make a choice.
