Vanessa opened the door, and I could see the smiles on her face, then Amanda walked in my heart sank as I watch Amanda sit on the couch,What was she doing here? I tried to compose myself, not wanting to arouse Vanessa's suspicion. But I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in the pit of my stomach.
"Amanda, what's going on?" I asked, trying to sound casual.
She smiled, her eyes glinting with amusement.
"Just visiting, Peter. I didn't mean to interrupt anything."
I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. Amanda never just dropped by unannounced. She had an ulterior motive, and I knew it.
As we made small talk, I couldn't help but feel like I was walking on eggshells.
Amanda seemed to be enjoying my discomfort, and I knew that she was just waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
I glanced over at Vanessa, who seemed oblivious to the tension between Amanda and me. I felt a pang of guilt, knowing that I was hiding something from my wife. But I couldn't tell her the truth. Not yet, at least.
I had to find a way to deal with Amanda first, to stop her from revealing my secret.
As the conversation continued, I found myself growing more and more anxious. I knew that Amanda was a ticking time bomb, and I had no idea when she would explode.
As Amanda sat next to me on the couch, I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread wash over me.
What have I gotten myself into? And why was she being so friendly and chatty with Vanessa?
I glanced over at my wife, who was laughing and smiling at something Amanda had said.
Vanessa had no idea what was really going on. She had no idea that Amanda was a threat to our marriage, to our entire life together. I felt a surge of anxiety and tried to push it down.
I couldn't let Amanda see how rattled I was. I had to keep up the charade, at least for now. As the conversation continued, I found myself growing more and more tense. Amanda was pushing my buttons, trying to get a rise out of me.
But I wasn't going to give it to her. I stood up, trying to seem casual.
"Hey, Vanessa, can I get you a refill on your drink?" I asked, trying to escape the tension.
Vanessa smiled and handed me her glass.
"Sure, babe. Thanks." As I walked into the kitchen, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. I was safe, at least for a moment.
But as I turned around to head back into the living room, I saw Amanda standing in the doorway, a sly smile spreading across her face.
My heart sank. I knew that I was in trouble.
"Oh poor boy, look at you, rattling like a lost mouse"she said in a very low tone before laughing out loud.
"What is it Amanda?"I asked,panicked
"Vanessa is only a stone throw away why are you doing this I?"said fidgeting?
She slowly walked toward me after checking to see if Vanessa was coming and swiftly kissed me.
Vanessa walked in almost immediately oblivious to the situation.
"Amy did you find your drink preference in the freezer?"
"Not at all,Peter was just trying to convince me to take the one you offered, gosh I hate coconut flavored drinks but I would make do with just water."
"Oh sorry about that,I would make sure to stuck up my freezer with your favorite drink in case of an unexpected visit of the queen."
Vanessa said as we all laughed.
I quickly excused myself to our bedroom hoping Amanda would have left before I returned.
* * *
I went back into the sitting room, pushing the thoughts aside and focusing on the conversation, but my mind kept wandering back to the potential consequences of Amanda's visit.
Vanessa, oblivious to the tension, chatted happily with Amanda, discussing everything from work to their favorite TV shows.
I forced a smile onto my face, trying to appear relaxed, but inside, I was seething with anxiety. As the visit drew to a close, Amanda stood up, her eyes locked on mine.
"Thanks for the chat, guys," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"I should get going." I walked her to the door, my heart racing with anticipation.
What was she going to do next? As we reached the entrance, Amanda turned to me, her eyes glinting with malice.
"We're not done, Peter," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
"Do take care of my friend."she added loudly.
I felt a chill run down my spine as I watched her walk away, her parting words echoing in my mind. What did she have planned? And how was I going to stop her?
