I was at a bar with Danny...He was more like a brother; he was my best friend, a human,
He had a strong, independent spirit, and he was brave, even though he could be so clumsy.
It was kinda noisy in here, but I was glad that at least I could hear my thoughts.
"So are you just going to sit there quietly or tell me what's going on?" He looked impatient.
I looked at him and sighed.
"It's Sarah," I told him and downed a shot glass of strong tequila. Danny refilled it.
I cleared my throat.
"So what about her...I mean is she not supposed to be the evil one?"
"You're right. But not anymore, not to me." I said.
Danny was silent for a moment, and then he burst into hysterical laughter.
"Wait, what do you mean not anymore, not to you?" He looked into my eyes.
"I don't know, things change you know," I was out of words.
"Yeah, I know...things like your feelings for her?"Danny asked, and looked at me, his eyes filled with expectation. He expected an answer of course.
"I don't know how it happened, we kissed once, and I couldn't stop doing that, I did it, over and over again, my emotions played the best part...it wasn't lust don't get me wrong, I was just drawn to something and at some point I realized that I couldn't do without it."
"Like an addiction," Danny said, and I nodded in agreement.
"Yeah...like an addiction," I told him.
Brief silence.
"You love her don't you?" He asked, his voice low and dry.
"I do, and I hate the fact that I do; I mean, she is making things more difficult for me to handle," I said.
"She's not...you are." He stated clearly.
"What do you mean?" I was a bit confused.
"Just take a break, Miguel, try hard to forget about her...besides she's an enemy; remember her background...they took away from you everything you held dear, except your mother, though. There's no way Sarah's not gonna be like that." Danny said; after a sigh, he downed a shot glass of the tequila we were having.
"Are you sure you're not drunk?" I asked him.
"Drunk but not wasted...I can hear myself speak, and I know what I'm saying; I'm not blabbering." He said and I chuckled.
"Hey, what's funny?" He was quite offended.
"I'm gonna miss her," I told him.
"You're making a mistake, Miguel; she might just turn out to be a monster; she will come from behind, slowly crawling until she gets you," I watched him as he spoke and scoffed.
"Stop being dramatic," I told him.
"I'm not." He said, refilling the shot glass with tequila, he had just opened another bottle. " Ever seen a lizard behind its prey? It acts like everything's alright, like it has its direction to follow, but then, slowly it traps its prey and there...breakfast. Geckos are so good when it comes to prey." He smiled. "Com'on now, let's forget about Sarah and enjoy this one night; I mean, she's out of town, right? Probably thinking of how to get back at yer..." He patted my left shoulder, "
Don't let her get you. And don't forget whatever you did, you did it to protect yourself; it's called self-defense." He pushed the shot glass of tequila on the table towards me.
"Take it easy on yourself." He said, almost in a whisper.
Soft music started to play, cool breeze blew in through the window.
I sighed. Nothing could be worse than having to choose between two important things. I downed the shot glass of tequila and coughed a bit.
"She's out of town," I said.
"But not out of the world," Danny said.
"Can you be positive?" I was annoyed.
"But I won't tell lies," He grinned, "it's against my belief." He whispered.
" Sometimes I wonder how we ever got to meet," I told him.
"Fate brought us together." He was bent on pissing me off.
" Shut up," I told him. I looked at the window, and something got my attention; I lidded my eyes, hoping to get a clearer view from where I sat.
"Sarah?" I heard myself say, and I watched her walk away after giving me a cold stare.
