Chapter 5 MY LIFE

Chapter 5

Camilla Moretti

Stepping off the train, the cool air, a harsh welcome to my new world or rather new reality.

Never imagined I would be leaving behind the only life I knew, embraced, my marriage which I thought was going to remain perfect with the man my heart beats for right beside me.

I guess it is like they'd always say "nothing perfect lasts forever" . I honestly don't know how I will be able to adjust to this new life, because the pain still lingers.

Each and every word still reflects back in my head, the words were still clear like they'd just happened, i could still feel the ache right in my heart which gets shattered more every single time the flashback comes...... and.....

"Hello ma", a gentle voice pierced my thoughts as my gaze immediately shifted to the voice origin, citing a little yet sweet looking young girl. "Do you need help with anything ma'am?"

I furrowed my brow unsure where her question came from or who it was that sent her, "my mom asked me to find out if you needed some help cause you've been at this spot for more than 10 minutes now".

She said immediately, like to say she actually read my mind, pointing at the direction where her mom was seated. I smiled and waved at the middle aged woman with a little baby in her arms.

"Thanks a lot for your concern little angel, but I'm good, was just lost in thoughts" I stated, my words firm and resolute and watched as she ran back to her mom.

Reaching for my suitcase, I took a deep breath feeling a spark of defiance within me, i would rebuild, rediscover and rise anew, i murmured to myself as I moved to the roadside trying to get a cab to the new place.

Sighting a calm looking tall and a little aged man standing beside a black color vehicle. "Good day sir" I greeted with a slight smile trying to keep a polite gesture.

"Good day to you too ma'am", he replied, "please where to?" he asked, reaching out for my suitcase and mini backpack as I drew closer to his direction.

I handed him the paper containing the information of the address he requested for. As i settled into the backseat of the car, trying to relax both my head and my legs. As we pulled away from the curb and merged into the traffic.

Minutes drive with silence and all that was in my head was Nikolai,

Smiled as I remembered all the promises that felt more than just real, the memories I couldn't get off my mind, his eyes, voice, his touch.... I couldn't help but just wish I knew what happened or the reason for the change.

"hmmmm....." I sighed trying to shake off those thoughts.

I turned to the window, viewing the beautiful sight of the city, i needed more. "Ummmm..... Sir could you please roll down the window, I'd love some fresh air".

The driver obliged and a gentle breeze rustled my hair, carrying with it the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the distant hint of freshly cut grass.

We drove in comfortable silence for a few minutes.

The only sound being the soft hum of the engine.

Finally, the driver spoke up, his voice breaking the peaceful silence,"are you new in town?" he asked, eyeing me in the mirror with a mixture of curiosity and friendliness.

I hesitated for a moment unsure of how much to share with this stranger.

But there was something about his face and gentle demeanor that puts me at ease. "Yes, I just arrived today". I replied smiling slightly.

The driver nodded sympathetically, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Well you've come to a great place", he said, his voice filled with warmth and enthusiasm.

As we continued driving, I felt a small sense of gratitude towards the driver, who had taken the time to engage me in a conversation which actually made me feel a little better.

Door slammed.

"Hmm....... Impressive", I murmured to myself as I stepped into the house with my suitcase.....

Taking a tour round the house, I couldn't help but admire the empty space. The walls, painted a soft cream, seemed to glow in the natural light.

I smiled as I envisioned filling the space with new memories. After all it is going to be my new home......"just me and my kids",I murmured slightly, touching my tummy.

Feeling tired of all the stress from the journey, I sat down on a bench close to the window slide, i couldn't help the sense of calm wash over me as I inhaled deeply the fresh air.

Allowing the silence envelope me.

"what's that?"...... I thought as I perceived a faint aroma that caught my attention, its sweetness and warmth stirring something deep inside me.

"i don't know how, but...... i know that's scent from somewhere"...... I murmured to myself as I slowly turned out of curiosity to know where it was coming from.

Eyes widened in shock as my gaze felled at him..... I couldn't believe my eyes, or were they lying to me..... I thought as I moved closer, slowly to confirm that I wasn't by any means mistaken or maybe it was just my head.

"Nic......What...." I uttered slaughtering, I was out of words out of a sudden....... Felt my mouth drop as I saw Nikola, my ex husband.

Not knowing how to feel or react.... Perhaps I knew... I was just not sure. I felt my heart raising, my body shivering.

Filled with mixed emotions, happy to see him at the same time i didn't want to set my eyes on him..... Pain, anger, hurt, broken.... I couldn't help but just stare at him as I could feel my heart was shattering all over again.

I drew back not wanting to believe whatever it was that I was seeing. ........................
