Chapter 5 Ezra

Then there was a sound of a heavy object falling from the other side of the phone. There was concern in Elara's tone. "Are you alright, Eleanor?"

It took her some minutes before Eleanor answered the question.

"I am alright. I just stumbled upon something." Her tone changed. "Forget about me. How are you, sister? Have they caught who it is yet?"

"Let me ask them." Elara muttered sweetly, and she went to the police to ask, making sure that Eleanor heard every single word they said.

"The person deleted the account, so we can't track their identity for the time being. But we will continue to investigate this case. Based on the messages, indeed, they have malicious intentions toward Miss Elara Whitmore." The police officer explained.

They already had the few thugs restrained. She smiled at them, even waved slightly. "I won't ask you, because I know you won't answer. It's a pity, but it's alright too. The person must have paid money to your family in case this one failed as a compensation, right?"

It was only a conjecture, but when she saw the twisted look on their face, it must have been true.

Elara and the man were asked to provide some more clues to the police station before they left. They answered all the questions based on what they knew. Even if she knew that the culprit was Eleanor, she had no evidence.

In the past life, the account also had been gone, following the same scenario. She also didn't expect for them to capture Eleanor just like that.

That girl has so many tricks which made him like a fish in the water in the entertainment industry. Well, of course, it also can be attributed to her powerful friends in the industry.

She turned to the man beside her. "Thank you, Sir–"

"Call me Ezra."

"Pardon?" She had a confused look, her eyes widened slightly.

"My name is Ezra. What is your name?" He extended his hand politely, making she couldn't refuse to shake hands with him.

"I believe you have already heard my name before. You can call me Elara." She smiled politely.

She thought about it for a while and then decided to ask for his number. Surprisingly, he directly gave it to her. His actions slightly confused her, but she didn't think about it too much.

"I will treat you to some meal or coffee if you don't disdain it, Sir Ezra." She happily saved his number on her phone.

He raised his eyebrows. "Do I look that old?"

She blinked. "No, you still look young."

"Don't call me Sir, then."

She nodded. His name rolled off her tongue so naturally after that. "Ezra."

"Elara." He called her back, raising his eyebrows.

She bid farewell to him after that. After she was all alone, she collected herself and went to a coffee shop. A sip of coffee helped her to calm her nerves from the thrilling experience today.

In the previous life, the thugs had brought her somewhere and broke her legs, causing her unable to attend the audition. On the other hand, she also couldn't work to gain any income for some months.

It was her friend who helped her. She took care of her needs, even lending her some money from her private fund.

The episode today still made her realize how reckless she had been. Even though she had called the police beforehand to head to a certain home in case her friend reported, the actual experience still made her heart palpitate with nervousness.

At this moment, Henry contacted her. When he mentioned the audition, she told him the truth, that she missed it and emphasized that it wasn't because of him.

[What kind of roles do you want?] He suddenly asked.

Elara stared at the text with a complex gaze. Her acting career was such a mess that she suspected there was someone deliberately blocking her in the entertainment industry. Eleanor was involved for sure, but she wasn't sure if she acted as the main mind or just some kind of chess piece.

Did she want to chase a career in the entertainment industry again in this life? She couldn't help but hesitate.

Even though she had the grace of rebirth, she wouldn't be arrogant to think that this life would pass with flying colors. If she wasn't careful, she might even have ended up with the same fate as in her last life.

Henry's reply came fast.

[Woah, you can compose music too? I don't understand much about this kind of thing. I can introduce you to someone who understands it better than me later.]

After she read the message, she was about to reply to Henry. Her finger accidentally touched the incoming call, and she was startled.

"Hello?"

With a hint of doubt, she answered, "Hello."

"I am Ezra. Still remember me?" There was some kind of laziness in his voice. His name made Elara become quiet with some shock.
