Chapter 4 His Girlfriend is Back

Lucas's words hit Nora like a punch in the guts, knocking the wind out of her. She took heavy steps into the bedroom and packed up her belongings; her eyes were stinging from unshed tears.

Doris had a victorious smirk on her face as she watched Nora move her things into the guest room.

"Let's go inside, dear; the coast is clear," Lucas said, curling his hands around Doris' waist. They walked into the room whispering and giggling at each other.

Nora stood there watching them enter the room happily. Their crackling giggles filled the air, taunting her with each passing moment. She stormed into the guest room, banging the door loudly. She unpacked her stuff, rearranging it aggressively as if she was taking out her frustration on her stuff.

She entered the bathroom and turned on the shower. She leaned against the bathroom wall and slowly slid down until her butt hit the tiled floor. The water from the shower cascaded down her face, washing away the uncontrollable tears that streamed down her face.

After some hours of crying, she stepped out of the bathroom, dabbing her face and wiping her entire body with her towel. She threw herself on the bed, the physical and mental stress she had experienced from the day's incident finally catching up on her. She slowly drifted into a peaceful slumber, all her pain and worries easing up for some moments.

She woke up the next morning and stretched out lazily; looking out through the window, the dawn was beginning to set in. Her mind went back to what had transpired the previous day; she let out an exasperated sigh and hit the bed repeatedly, wishing it was just a nightmare, but unfortunately, that was her new reality.

She looked down at her tummy and rubbed it slowly, a small smile stretched across her lips, "At least I have a new life growing inside of me, my only source of consolation right now."

She got out of the bed and stepped out of the room, heading to the kitchen to get a glass of water. She walked past Lucas' room, and she could hear muffled voices echoing from the room. Out of curiosity, she leaned her head against the door to know if she could hear the voices clearly.

A sharp pain shot through her as she heard Doris moaning in pleasure, "Hit me harder, baby; it feels so good," her voice jerking from how Lucas pounded her.

"Sure, baby, I'm getting there," Lucas said, groaning out loudly from the amount of pleasure he was feeling.

Nora shut her eyes, and tears rolled down her face. She wished she had never listened to their conversation. She marched angrily into the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water. She sat at the dining table, her eyes shooting with rage as she gulped down a full glass of water at once.

A soft knock resonated at the door, jolting her back to reality. She went to the door and swung it open.

"Hey Nick, what a pleasant surprise, come in please!!" She gestured with a smile, masking the sorrow and anger that lingered in her heart.

Nick wheeled his suitcase into the living room and slumped on the chair. "I'm so tired; my journey was hectic," he sighed.

"So sorry about that, let me get you a glass of chilled water." She got into the kitchen and came out shortly with a glass of water and gulped it down within seconds and heaved a sigh of relief. "I feel better now. Anyway, where is Lucas, my brother? he asked.

"He's in his room," she replied blandly.

Nick took a careful look at her; her eyes were red and swollen. "You don't look happy; you look like you have been crying. What happened? Is Lucas still treating you badly?" He asked; his voice was filled with concern.

She nodded painfully as more tears streamed down her face.

"It's okay, Nora, stop crying. I've told you before to divorce Lucas and leave this abusive marriage, but you are just so adamant. Lucas is my elder brother, but I do not support the way he treats you like trash. You are still young and have a promising future; don't let your facial looks reduce your self-esteem." His voice resonated with authority as he offered her some advice.

Nora nodded. "I know, but I still believe that he will change someday. Besides, I'm already pregnant with his child," she said, slowly rubbing her tummy.

"Really, that's good news," his eyes lit up. "Does Lucas know about it?" He arched an eyebrow.

"Not yet; I was about to tell him yesterday being our wedding anniversary. I wanted to surprise him, but he surprised me instead."

"Surprised you? What do you mean?"

"He came back yesterday with a certain lady whom he introduced as Doris; he said she's his girlfriend," she pointed out.

"Doris?" His eyes widened. "Is Doris back into the country?" And he had the guts to bring her into your matrimonial home? This is pathetic." His voice was a mixture of disbelief and fury.

"That's not all; he asked me to move my things out of the room so that Doris could move in. Right now they are both pounding each other in the bedroom," she bit her lower lip as she thought about it.

"Wait a second, you mean Doris spent the night in this house and you had to sleep in the guest room? This is the height of it.".He rose to his feet and took heavy steps towards Lucas's bedroom.

"Lucas! Lucas!" He yelled, banging the door loudly.

Lucas opened the door and was surprised to see Nick. "Oh Nick, it's you. When did you arrive?" Lucas grinned, oblivious to the displeasure that marred Nick's face.

"How dare you defile your matrimonial home by bringing Doris into your house and making her sleep with you in your room?" Nick questioned with a tone of disapproval.

"Is that why you were banging the door like that, this is my house, and it's my life. You don't dictate to me what to do and what not to do in my house." Lucas snapped back at him, feeling a surge of irritation.

"Oh, I see. You see nothing wrong in what you are doing. It's fine. I'm leaving. I can't stay in this house and watch this abomination happen before my eyes." He walked away angrily.

"Good riddance to you," Lucas said in a nonchalant tone, slamming the door behind him.

Nick went back into the living room, heaving in anger; he picked up his phone and held the handle of his suitcase.

"What happened, Nick? Where are you going?" Nora asked with a baffled look on her face.

"I'm leaving, Nora; I can't stay here; everything about this house disgusts me." He stepped out of the house and shut the door behind him.

"So you think reporting Lucas to his younger brother will make a difference." Doris' taunting voice sliced through the air.

"Can't you see that Lucas doesn't love you and doesn't care about you? The earlier you realize it, the better for you. I am the one he loves, and guess what? I'm carrying his child," she revealed, a smirk playing on the side of her lips.
