Chapter 3 I'm Pregnant!

"I'm having Lucas' baby," a rush of joy flooded through her veins. "Let me go and tell him immediately. Maybe he will begin to love me once he finds out that I'm pregnant with his child." She said to herself, feeling a mix of happy and calm.

She opened the bathroom door and went to the living room, a broad smile plastered on her face as she was about to tell Lucas the good news, but her smile curved into a frown when she met his absence at the dining table. He had already finished the meal and retired to his room.

She strolled to the bedroom and met Lucas sprawled on the bed, fast asleep and snoring profusely.

She let out a loud sigh, "Oh! He's already asleep; I will just tell him tomorrow," she shrugged.

She changed into her nightwear and joined him on the bed, covering the both of them in the thick, fluffy duvet. She tossed and turned on the bed, battling with elusive sleep as her heart raced with anticipation of how to break the news to him.

She changed into her nightwear and joined him on the bed, covering the both of them in the thick, fluffy duvet. She tossed and turned on the bed, battling with elusive sleep as her heart raced with anticipation of how to break the news to him.

She slowly drifted into sleep as the cool and crisp night breeze blew from the window, smooching her delicate skin.

The early morning sun streamed through the window, casting a warm glow into the room. Nora fluttered her eyes open; the sun rays sharply entered her eyes. She squinted her eyes and slowly opened them to adjust to the light that filtered through the room. She flipped to the other side of the bed and was slightly taken aback when she saw that Lucas was not there.

Her brows furrowed in confusion, she slid out of her comfy bed coverings and walked to the living room, hoping to see Lucas, but he was not there. She searched the kitchen, restroom, backyard and terrace but he was nowhere to be found.

"Where could he be? It's Saturday, and he doesn't work on weekends." She narrowed her eyes as she pondered. "I'll just call him," She dialed his number, and it rang repeatedly, but he was not picking up.

Her shoulder slumped as a feeling of frustration crept into her. She sank into the couch, staring blankly at the wall when her phone light suddenly beamed to indicate that a message had entered.

She glanced at the phone and saw that the message was from Lucas. She opened the message and read, "I'm busy; is there a problem?"

'I am pregnant,' she typed but immediately wiped off what she had typed. "I shouldn't reveal the news to him through a text message; I will wait for him to get back. I want to see the reaction on his face when I break the news," she said to herself.

"It's our three-year anniversary today, and there wouldn't be a better anniversary gift than the news of my pregnancy," she said, her eyes sparkling in delight.

She cleaned up the house as usual and prepared a variety of dishes ranging from roast chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a dozen other dishes. Carefully arranging them on the dining table as the sweet aroma wafted through the air.

Being tired from preparing a variety of dishes, she took a warm bath and changed into a sexy red dress that hugged her body, and her blonde hair bounced as she walked into the living room, taking a seat on the leather couch.

She crossed one leg over the other, feeling a thrill of excitement as she patiently waited for Lucas to arrive. Minutes ticked by, each one seeming to last an eternity. She fell into a short sleep, sprawling on the couch. She woke up a few hours later and looked around to realize that Lucas was still not back.

She tapped her feet impatiently on the polished marble floor as the feeling of uneasiness crept into her. She kept calling his number, but he was not picking up.

"What could be keeping him busy that has made him ignore my calls? It's almost evening, and he's still not back," she said with a worried look on her face.

Suddenly she heard the whirring sound of Lucas' car driving into the compound. She peeked through the window and saw Lucas coming out of the car. "Thank goodness, he is back," she shut her eyes and heaved a sigh of relief.

She rushed out of the house, running to welcome Lucas with a hug, but paused in her tracks as she noticed a lady sitting comfortably on the passenger's seat.

She threw a curious glance at her from where she was standing, wondering who she was. Lucas walked over to the passenger's side and slowly opened the door for the lady. He held her hands, and she stepped out in style, flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder.

Their hands were hooked together like newly married couples, and they walked past Nora, completely ignoring her as if she were a ghost.

Nora stood there with a stunned look on her face. "What just happened? Who is that lady?" She muttered inwardly and walked into the room.

"Lucas! Why did you walk past me like that without saying anything to me?" Her voice rose with annoyance as she questioned.

Lucas' eyebrows creased. "I beg your pardon? Are you by any means referring to me? I can see you've got some nerves," he shook his head. "I brought you into this house, I provided you with food, clothing, and shelter, and I even paid off all your father's debts, and you have the guts to talk to me in such a disrespectful manner." He remarked, casting a condescending gaze at her.

Nora crimped her lips, feeling a tinge of remorse. She realized that she had overstepped her boundaries. "I... I'm sorry, it was a slip of the tongue," she stuttered. "What I wanted to say is that you didn't introduce me to your guest," she said, throwing a glance at the lady.

"Oh, I see, you really want to know who she is. Ok, I will tell you." He pulled the lady closer and slid his hands around her waist. "Meet Doris, my girlfriend, whom I'm in love with," he smirked. "Doris, this is Nora, the lady I told you about." His face broke into a beaming grin as he introduced Doris.

"Oh, I see," Doris scoffed, staring down at Nora, measuring her from head to toe. "The lady you married out of pity, she looks worse than I imagined. She looks more like a vampire than a human," she sneered, her voice dripping with scorn.

"How do you manage to keep up with her for three years? I can't believe that you wake up to this face every morning. Gosh! This is so disgusting. I feel like throwing up right now," she wrinkled her nose in disgust.

"Forget about her, dear; let's go to the bedroom." He turned his attention to Nora, "Take out all your belongings from my bedroom and move them to the guest room. Doris will be staying in my bedroom from today onwards," he announced; his voice carried an unsettling weight of authority.
