Chapter 4 This Angel is who

Lucian's POV

Nearly a week has passed since that club night, and I'm still thinking about the woman with the exquisite voice. I tried talking to other ladies to get her off my mind, but it didn't help. At last, I gave up and looked for her. She wasn't there each time I returned to the club to look for her. When I finally inquired about her, they informed me that she was no longer employed there. They refused to even give me her true name so I could look her up. Her grin, those blue eyes, her long blond hair, her voice-fuck!

I am currently scheduling another meeting with the Japanese investors, who claim to have a solution to our problems, but all I see is them spewing more nonsense. Theo stated that it was crucial and that I should listen to their opinions. When my assistant enters, I roll my eyes and keep trying to focus on them.

"Sir, I apologize, however."

"What have I told you about interrupting our meetings?" I ask her while extending my hand.

"Not to sir but it's-"

"Whatever it is-it. Can. wait." I give her a fierce look, challenging her to do so. She quickly exits the room after biting her inner cheek and bowing slightly. I turn to face the meeting and gesture for them to continue as soon as I hear the door click shut. When I finally tell them we can continue later, the meeting continues for an additional hour. As they gather up their belongings, I turn to confront Theo, my annoyance evident.

"Don't look at me like that. Even if it was whole and utter bullshit, we still have to listen to them because they are still investors. As my helper enters again, Theo says, gathering the paperwork. We look in her direction.

"What is it?"

"Sir, it's your son." As I sense Theo's full focus on her, I suddenly get to my feet.

"What happened?" I walk over to her and ask. She starts to twiddle her fingers.

"He was brought to St. Jule's hospital after an accident. "He-"

Without even waiting for her to finish speaking, I dash out the door with Theo in tow, heading for the elevator. Theo makes a phone call to arrange for someone to drive us around. When we reach the lobby, we hop in the waiting car and head straight for the hospital. I call Leo.

"Hello, sir."

"Leo, what happened?" I ask straightforwardly.

"Ethan fell off the pier this morning and-" "HOW DID HE FALL OFF THE PIER LEO!" I bellow into the telephone.

"Sir, Ethan wanted to peek through the binoculars when I offered him a drink, but he leaned too far. It was too late when I attempted to get his attention. Miss Evelyn-"

"Who the devil is it? Evelyn, Miss? I clenched my teeth and gritted them.

It was she who jumped into the sea off the pier to get Ethan. Since then, she has remained with him.

"You let a stranger stay with my son, LEO!"

"Sir, he won't let her go." I immediately became silent.

Without hesitation, I dash into the hospital as soon as we pull up. Theo follows me as I walk to the front desk. I am aware that he is hesitant to speak. I become even more irritated when I ask the woman for directions while she is attempting to flirt with me. She rapidly changes her mind when I start to spit at her. She gives me instructions, and when I see Ethan and Leo approaching, I start to leave. I sprint over to embrace my son tightly. I take a step back to gaze at him. My eyes widened in shock. I turn to Leo and ask him to explain what I'm seeing. Ethan, my son, is grinning. Theo seems as shocked as I do when I turn to face him.

"Ethan, are you okay?" With timidity, I inquire. He continues to smile while staring right into my eyes. He offers me a hug and nods his head. I give Leo another hug and turn to face his smiling face.

"I found my angel dad." In my ear, he whispers quietly. I take him up off the ground and give him a back rub. I'm not sure what he's talking about, but I don't want to take away my son's smile for anything. Together with my son and Theo, I walk us out of the hospital and get into the car.

"Ethan, what do you mean, your angel?"

"She rescued me and held me." He continues to smile while gazing out the window. He must be referring to the woman who followed him into the sea.

"Ethan, can I see your head?" Theo turns his head to face him and asks. It has a tiny bandage on it, which I just discovered. After checking things over, Theo nods his head in my direction to confirm that everything is fine. For the remainder of the journey home, I just observe my son, who now has a perpetual smile on his face, and stop talking. A stranger was able to have such an effect on my child, even though I can't even get him to grin for more than a few minutes and it's generally a forced smile.

When we get home, Theo shows Ethan to his room while I go speak with Leo. He's waiting for me in the living room, sipping a drink. I accept it from him and settle into a chair.

"Alright, Leo, tell me everything." As I take a sip of the bourbon, I say, fascinated.

"As I mentioned, I noticed Ethan leaning forward and peering over the pier through the binoculars on the pier. I called out to him, but he fell off when he turned to face me. A few feet distant, Miss Evelyn suddenly jumped in after Ethan. I watched him being hauled out of the sea as I dashed onto the beach from the pier. Ethan suddenly spat out the water as she started CPR on him. I've never seen Ethan act that way before, but he threw himself at Miss Evelyn and gave her a hard hug. I heard the last sentence even though he whispered it more to himself than to me. He's true; Ethan stays away from people, and I nod my head in agreement.

"So what did this Miss Evelyn want in return?"

Nothing, sir. Until Ethan was taken care of, she refused to even allow the doctors to examine her. Even after she presumably struck something on the way to shore, resulting in a laceration on her upper arm."

"Did she state her last name?"

"No, sir. Ethan has come to refer to her as his angel, and that's all I know. He seems to like her. He gets up to go after I give him a single nod. For a few more minutes, I sat there thinking about what this woman might want. Nobody is so generous as to put their own life in danger for a stranger. What would have happened to my son if she hadn't been present? In an attempt to put her out of my mind, I shake my head and return to my son's room, where he is still grinning. My only thought was, Who is this angel?
