Chapter 3 Scattered illusions

**Chapter 3: Shattered Illusions**

The storm of flashing lights continued to blind Nonna, the thought of her father's disapproving gaze only adding to the suffocating atmosphere. Veronica stood just outside the chaos, feigning innocence, her delicate face the picture of victimhood. Her wide, wounded eyes and shaking hands painted a picture of a woman in distress, but Nonna could see right through the façade. Veronica had orchestrated all of this-her betrayal was far deeper than she could ever have imagined.

"I... I don't know what happened!" Veronica exclaimed to the cameras, her voice trembling as she dramatically clutched her chest. "I never wanted this to happen! Nonna has always being g like this , visiting from club to clubs, using her father's wealth to manipulate everyone, and now this... this is how immoral she is ." Her eyes glistened with fake tears. "She has always being promiscuous , I've always warned her to behave like a lady and this is the result for not listening"

Nonna's stomach twisted. Veronica's words rang out like daggers, each one designed to ruin her. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Veronica was spinning a web of lies, turning the entire situation on its head.

The reporters, eager for the next scandal, gathered closer to Veronica, their microphones thrusting toward her, capturing every fabricated word. The paparazzi ate it up, hanging on her every word as if it were gospel.

"Enough!" Williams's voice cut through the noise, his authority undeniable. His secretary, a sharp-eyed man who had been watching the scene unfold, rushed in with security following quickly behind. They moved like a well-oiled machine, pushing the paparazzi back, ushering them out of the room with practiced ease.

The door slammed shut with a resounding thud, but the damage had already been done. Veronica shot Nonna a smug, triumphant look, her lips curling into a wicked smile as she turned on her heels and walked out. The door clicked shut behind her, and Nonna's body trembled as the reality of the situation crashed down on her.

Tears welled in her eyes, but before she could react, the rush of pain from between her legs hit her all at once-an unbearable reminder of what she had lost, and how everything had spiraled out of control.

She collapsed onto the bed, her hands trembling as she looked down at the sheets, stained with the evidence of her innocence lost. The tears came in a wave, her chest heaving with the weight of her shame and regret. Her world felt like it was crumbling around her, each piece slipping through her fingers like sand.

"Nonna..." Her father's voice broke through her sobs, cold and sharp, filled with a bitterness she'd never heard before. He stormed into the room, his face twisted in anger and disappointment.

"Dad, please, I-" Nonna's voice cracked, her words failing her as her father yanked her up from the bed. His grip was harsh, unforgiving, and it made her wince.

"How could you do this?" he spat, his face red with fury. "You've ruined everything, Nonna. Everything we've built, all the respect we've earned... you've destroyed it in one night!" He slapped her across the face, the force of the blow leaving her vision blurry, and a sharp sting on her skin.

Nonna's body went rigid, and the pain from the slap shot through her, but it was nothing compared to the feeling of her father's utter betrayal. She wanted to scream, to defend herself, but there were no words left.

"You've brought shame on our name, on me," her father continued, his voice trembling with rage. "I've given you everything, every luxury, every opportunity, and this is how you repay me?" His voice cracked with emotion, and his hands fell to his chest as if the weight of his disappointment was too much to bear. "Why, Nonna? Why would you do this?"

The breath left her lungs, her eyes filling with fresh tears as her father sank to his knees before her, clutching his chest in obvious distress. He gasped for air, his face contorted in pain.

"Dad?" Nonna whispered, panic bubbling inside her. She reached for him, her hands trembling as she tried to steady him. "Dad, please! I didn't mean to-"

Her father's eyes rolled back as he collapsed onto the floor, his body going limp, and Nonna screamed, her heart dropping into her stomach. He had a heart attack. The realization hit her like a punch to the gut.

Williams moved quickly, but there was nothing he could do. Nonna could barely process the unfolding scene. Her father's condition was too much to handle in this moment. Her body felt paralyzed, like time itself had come to a screeching halt.

"Someone, call an ambulance!" she screamed, her voice raw with panic.

Williams's gaze softened for a moment, but then he was all business, his secretary already on the phone with emergency services. His movements were precise, calculated, but there was a flicker of something deep in his eyes-something that made Nonna pause. For a brief moment, he wasn't just the cold, indifferent businessman she had come to know. He was a man, a man witnessing her devastation.

But before she could say anything, Williams stepped closer, his voice low, almost like a whisper. "Nonna," he said firmly, his gaze locked on hers, "Marry me."

Nonna's heart skipped a beat, her mind reeling with confusion and disbelief. Her father was lying motionless on the floor, his life hanging in the balance, and here was Williams, a man she barely knew, offering a solution to the wreckage her life had become.

"I know this is not what you expect right now, but I promise, I'll handle everything that's happened. Your reputation, your family... everything." His voice was steady, unwavering. "Let me help you. Marry me, Nonna, and I'll make sure this never destroys you."

Nonna's breath hitched in her throat as she stared up at him. His words were powerful, and in the midst of everything crumbling around her, something about them felt like a lifeline.

But could she really accept this offer, this promise? Did she have a choice?

She looked down at her father, helpless and broken. Her hands trembled as she wiped away her tears, but they came faster, and the weight of everything she had lost pressed down on her. In that moment, the world felt like it was breaking apart at the seams, and all she could do was hold on.

"I don't know how to fix this," she whispered, the words escaping her lips like a confession.

"You don't have to," Williams replied softly, his hand gently resting on her shoulder. "But I will.
