Chapter 5 What are you

ALPHA ERIC'S POV

"You shouldn't have brought her here Alpha Eric" Victoria reprimanded me while an unconscious Iris laid on the bed in the room I had her locked up inside and I ran my fingers through my hair.

We were all back in the room after Victoria saved her from falling to her death but she was out cold and I knew she would want an explanation once she was awake.

I wouldn't have taken her from the hospital if I wasn't so desperate but I had to do it for our own good. She was my mate and I couldn't let her die if she eventually succeeded in lifting my curse.

After I woke up from my nightmare and got that phone call from Victoria about her premonition, I knew I had to talk to Iris but I figured she wouldn't listen to me, a stranger, tell her she's a witch if I didn't make her hear me out.

After Matt ran a background check on her, we found out she was actually a descendant of powerful witches but was abandoned at birth so she got adopted and had no idea who she really was.

It all made sense because being a witch was the only way she would be able to lift my curse but there was a problem.... She had no idea that she was even a witch.

We didn't even know if she would be able to use her powers to its full potential since she had never tapped into its source before and I doubted she would think I was sane if I randomly approached her and shared such information with her.

So I did something I'd never done before. I kidnapped Iris from her workplace and brought her over to my house, locking her up in a room until she'd be calm enough to listen to me but seeing how unnerved she was earlier, I wondered how long it would take to win her trust.

She probably hated me now and I didn't blame her. She was confused, lost and losing her mind all because of me. She saw me mind control her and witnessed Victoria growing wings to save her.

Those were enough experiences to make her lose her mind but I couldn't let her leave yet. I didn't care if she would even want to kill me at some point because my objective was to let her know her purpose and who she was to me.

I had to awaken her powers and help her in lifting my curse before my time would be up and lastly, I couldn't let her die. We both had to survive.

So I was going to find a solution no matter what to save her and keep her with me because she was my mate and even though the sight of me currently pissed her off, I knew we'd eventually get past that with time.

"I just need to win her trust" I replied to Victoria and she sat down before clasping her hands over her knees.

"I just hope she doesn't pass out again because she looked very terrified when she saw me and that obviously means she is scared of us so how could you possibly win her trust?" she retorted and I glared at her.

"Victoria, apologize to the Alpha. You should always speak to him with respect. Doesn't matter if you're angry" Matt told her and she turned to look at me. We both stared at each other in silence before she bowed her head.

"I apologize Alpha. I spoke rudely when I shouldn't, so forgive me" she apologized and I shook my head before pressing my forefingers against my temple to ease the dull ache I felt in my head.

"It's fine Vic. You're mad and I get it but I need you to understand that I'm the one whose life is on the line. I have five years left to live, I don't have an heir, and I just found my mate who could also lift my curse that's plagued my family for generations."

I paused to let my words sink in for a moment. Then I went on.

"So tell me Vic. If you were in my shoes, what would you do? Would you let fate take its course or would you grab your destiny by the reins and make it work your own way?" I asked her and she took a moment to reply.

"if I have five years to live and I suddenly find a solution, I'm definitely going to put in the extra work by making it go my way" she gave her honest opinion and I smiled once I realized I had her support.

"Then give me your support and help me win Iris's trust okay? I just need her to listen to me and stay here until she masters her powers. So help me" I said to her and she sighed.

"Fine. I'll help you, Alpha Eric, but if she wakes up now, she's going to panic a lot so I'll have to subdue her for you." She agreed to my request for her help and I nodded in approval since it was a great idea.

"And Matt, thanks for the background check. I actually thought she was human but thanks to you, I was able to figure out why she was the only one who could lift my curse" I thanked my beta too and he smiled.

"I just did my job, Alpha" he replied humbly and our attention immediately switched over to Iris once we heard her groan in her slumber. She was waking up.

Victoria quickly went closer to her while she tossed and turned in bed, a disturbed expression on her face and I could tell she was dreaming about the moment Victoria saved her.

Then she opened her eyes but she was quiet and motionless for a moment until she recollected what happened and whimpered as she quickly sat up and began to move away from us to the other side of the bed while her eyes were filled with fear and alarm.

"What the hell are you guys?" She shrieked then she looked at Victoria and pointed a shaky finger at her.

"You had wings and flew toward me and I don't care if you saved me. All I know is that it wasn't normal! So I better know what's going on or I'll jump out that window again" she screamed at the top of her lungs and Victoria looked at me for permission to subdue her and calm her nerves.

I nodded my head to let her know she could go ahead and she turned back to Iris before smiling warmly.

"Hello, Iris. My name is Victoria and I work with Eric. I want to let you know that we don't intend to hurt you, Iris. You're here for a reason and we'd like to share that reason with you so you'll understand everything" she began and Iris shook her head without hesitation.

"How do you expect me to believe you when you say you won't hurt me? You had wings on your back!" she yelled back and Victoria gave her a long stare.

"I grew those wings to save you, Iris. Would someone who would hurt you, also save you?"

"I'm pretty sure you will once I've given you what you want" she retorted and Victoria pinched the bridge of her nose in resignation once she realized how stubborn Iris was.

"I'm sorry Iris but you leave me with no choice but to do this" she said and Iris looked confused.

She looked at me first, hoping I'd tell her anything but when I didn't, she turned back to Victoria.

"What are you talking about, what do you want to do to me?" She asked but Victoria didn't respond as she held her hand up to her forehead.

"I'm calming you down so you'd listen to us" she said right before she sent waves into Iris's head through her powers and seconds later, Iris looked calmer and relaxed.

We all waited in silence to see if it worked and Iris blinked before she let out a sigh and ran her fingers through her hair weakly.

"What did you do to me? Why do I feel so weak?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper and I took the lead this time. I had to be the one to tell her everything if I wanted her to warm up to me.

"I'll talk to her guys. You should excuse us" I dismissed my beta and gamma and they bowed to me before leaving the room so it was just me and Iris.

Then I knelt before her while she sat on the edge of the bed and she loomed at me with sleepy eyes.

"I'm not going to die right? I can't leave my parents yet. They need me" She said and I took her hands in mine to assure her that she was safe.

"I need you more Iris. That's why you're here against your will and I did that because I had no choice. What I'm about to tell you might be too hard to accept but it's the truth and I want you to know that my fate lies on your shoulders." I began and she looked confused.

"I'm a werewolf and you're my mate, Iris and you're the only one who can save me from my misfortune" I went straight to point and I watched her face slowly turn pale.

This was going to take a while.
