Chapter 5 The Interview

Candice's phone rang and the caller was Adam. She picked up the call. "Adam?"

"Hey guess what I put in a good word for you with my boss and he's game! You owe me big time for this Lawson." Adam said excitedly. "So when can you come for an interview?"

"I can come tomorrow. Will that be okay Adam?" Candy replied, smiling from ear to ear.

"Sure thing. I'll text the time okay?" Adam told her.

"Thanks Adam I owe you one." Candy replied.

"I won't let you forget that." Adam said and hung up the call.

Candice was excited and she looked for something professional to wear for her interview the next day. She smiled at herself and was glad for the friends she had made. She may have been spoilt but Candice still knew how to treat other people though she was used to getting her way. But obviously not everybody would agree with that statement.

Candy found a nice formal outfit that didn't attract too much attention. Yet it was classy and fashionable. Alicia came back and asked if Candy was going somewhere.

"I have an interview tomorrow. I asked Adam Baldwin to hook me up and he said there's an opening where he works. It's nothing fancy but at least it's something right?" Candy replied still looking for a pair of shoes to go with the outfit she had chosen.

"Do you know anything about the company he's working for?" Alicia as she poured herself a glass of water.

"Hmm .. not really but anything is fine as long as it has nothing to do with Lawson or LaRue." Candy replied. She had a feeling the LaRues saw her as an enemy after what she did and of course she couldn't work at any of her father's companies. Now was her chance to prove herself not only to her father but to the whole world that there's more to her than just the spoilt princess of the Lawson Enterprise.

"So are you ready for this? I know you're determined to make it work but I'm sure it won't be that easy." Alicia said.

"Nothing in this world is easy Alicia. Even working in my father's company was not easy. I had to put up with people talking about me behind my back. How I got the job only because I'm Stephen Lawson's daughter. I have qualifications and I'm pretty good at what I do but nobody cares about that. People only concentrate on the fact that I'm my father's daughter and I have everything given to me on a silver platter." Candy said feeling slightly angry.

"Well now is your chance to show them what you're capable of. And remember I'm here for you Candy. What ever happens I'm here and I'll never judge you. I know you better than anyone else. You've got this." Alicia said as she raised her glass of water clicking it with Candy's tea cup. Both of them laughed.

Candice woke up in great spirits the following day and she was ready for the interview. Adam had texted her the time and venue of the interview. He wanted to meet her before the interview but Candy suggested they meet afterwards to celebrate or for him to console her if she didn't get the job. He had promised her the job was as good as hers. He had spoken to his boss and he had promised to give Candice a try. To Adam this was already a done deal the interview was just a formality.

Martin was in his office having his morning coffee and going through his schedule for the day. He knew today Candice Lawson was coming for an interview and he had to admit his curiosity about her was increasing. Maybe if he met her he could get hints of what she really wanted from his company. There was plenty of time to observe her he thought. He had to play it cool and pretend he wasn't on to her. If she suspected he was on to her maybe that might scare her off. Martin logged in his computer and started working. He brushed off any thoughts of Candice and got on with his day.

Candice arrived at MartaFix Co. and went to reception. After stating her name and why she there she was escorted to HR and so her interview started. Everything went well even the interviewer was impressed with the way she conducted herself and her previous work experience. Candice thought having worked at her father's company would bring her problems but the lady that interviewed her said it was an advantage.

Candice didn't want people to know she was the daughter of Stephen Lawson but sadly they were bound to found out sooner or later. Not only did people treat her differently after finding out they also thought she was using her last name to get better treatment. She was hoping with this fresh start people wouldn't mind her last name.

After the interview she was introduced to the admin department where she was helping out. She greeted everybody and she was shown her desk where she would be working. Veronica was going to inform her of all her duties. They spend some time going through everything and finished shortly before lunch.

Adam had promised to pop in and treat her to lunch to celebrate her new job. He kept his word and came to pick her up.

"Candy are you ready?" He asked.

"Yeah. Lemme just pack up here I'll be with you now?" Candy replied sorting out papers on her desk.

Adam took Candices hand and lead her out of the office. On their way out Adam bumped into Martin and apologized. Candy looked at Martin mesmerized by his charming features.
