Chapter 5 Marriage

Is this what my life would be from now on? My husband threatening and ordering me around at every turn.

The door to my room slams open by a very angry Vincenzo.

"Leave." He orders and the maids scurry out of the room and I stand to do the same.

"Why are you not dressed up yet?" Vincenzo asks as I go to pass him.

"I am." I simply say.

"The entire of my family members, allies and even enemies are gathered for our ceremony, create any more scene or try to run away again and I will cut to pieces every member of whatever is left of your family." Vincenzo utters such cruel words while glaring hard at me.

"I do not want to get married." I say almost at the verge of tears.

"You already are." Vincenzo tells me, "I didn't get you in this situation, your father did, I don't want this any less than you do but this wedding not happening will make me look unnecessarily weak and I have no time to waste pacifying some group of unsatisfied old men, so be a submissive wife, fix a smile on that pretty face of yours and let's get on and over with it." Vincenzo tells me.

"So I am just a means to an end?" I whisper out.

"Depends on how you choose to see it Seraphina." Vincenzo tells me tiredly and sighing.

"May I?" He whispers and when I look up at him in confusion, he turns me around and pulls the zip of my dress down, the slight touch of his fingers causing me to jerk forward with a gasp.

"We can atleast be civil." Vincenzo proposes with a whisper and I give a hesitant nod at his call of truce.

We surely can atleast be civil.

I peacefully get changed and we head to the venue of the reception. They are lots of people present, especially with faces that I do not recognize. My eyes search all over the place for my mother.

"Come, I will like to introduce you to some guests." Vincenzo says placing his palm on my lower back and I shiver trying to get used to his touch.

"Vincenzo, my sweet boy." A sophisticated woman cooes, taking a hold of Vincenzo's cheek and kissing him like he was a child, the grown man seems to bask in the attention even if he physically looked annoyed at the woman.

"Oh my world, there she is," the woman pulls me into a hug. "It is most pleasant to finally meet you Seraphina." I flash her a fake smile, I couldn't say the same.

"She's my aunt." Vincenzo says and I nod in surprise, I thought she was his mother. I get introduced to a whole lot of people with dark energy before I get tired.

My eyes finally find my uncle and mom and my mood deplicts immediately.

"Ma." I run towards my mother.

"My sweet girl, are you okay?" My mother says with fear, her eyes flashing towards Vincenzo far behind us.

"Yes ma, I'm sorry I made you worry." I whisper.

"You tried to have me sold like a sheep to traffickers, how could you be so cold and heartless, I trusted you." I say glaring at Uncle Romero.

"You do not dare speak to me in that tune girl, you are naive and reckless, once this marriage is sealed, it can never be broken unless at the cost of the lives of the family of the one who breaks it between you and him and we all know who that would end up being, I was only trying to save our family the shame and preserve our lives. Your father has spoilt you rotten, if you were my child, I would-"

"Uncle." I yell in anger, breathing hard, my head endlessly rolling over what he just said. "What do you mean by can never be broken?" I ask him shakily, that was my only hope.

"This deal was an oath, once an oath is made in our world, it can never be broken and your marriage just sealed the deal, if you had remained where you were Tiana would have married him, atleast she was more promising to save this family from ruin." I look at my uncle in disgust and then my mother before turning to find my so called husband.

They all knew, that they were putting my life on stop for their selfish desires and greed for more power and I was left in the dark.

Let's be civil my ass.

"Where is Vincenzo?" I ask one of the guards when I can't find him anywhere in the room.

"Upstairs." He points.

I stomp past the stairs, knocking open the door of every room I came across. The loud sound of a woman moaning from across the hall catches my attention and pulls me towards it.

I always knew something like this would surely happen with a man like that but surely not this soon and it still did not stop the flood of anger and shame running through me, shame at his open disregard for me. I watch my husband drill his tongue into another woman like a mad and starved bull. The shocked eyes of the girl find mine and before she can say a word, I turn to leave.

I hurry back outside the hall.

"Take me back home." I order.

"But King-"

"He knows, so please just take me back home." I say tiredly.
