For a few seconds I couldn't move or say anything. I was dumbfounded. So, Joenathan paid off my mother's medical bills?
"You?" I was confused.
"I apologize for not telling you earlier. You must be surprised," Joenathan said.
"Wait. Why are you paying off my mother's medical bills? I didn't ask you to do that," I replied irritably.
What was the point of Joenathan's action?
He was so weird. After divorcing me four months ago just to be with Zeeva, now he was suddenly in front of me. Somehow he knew about my whereabouts and found out about my mother's medical bills.
"I did that as my apology to you," Joenathan replied, his voice not sounding as firm as before.
I burst out laughing sarcastically. I hadn't wanted him to come, but now he showed up again?!
"You don't need to apologize, and you shouldn't come back to me, Joenathan," I snapped.
Joenathan looked at me with a look of regret in his eyes.
That was surprising. Because usually he never showed remorse for his mistakes.
"Kyle, do you hate me so much now?" Joenathan asked the question-and it sounded ridiculous.
I chuckled. After what he had done to me, he was only asking if I hated him or not?
"I feel very sorry for you, Joenathan. Shouldn't you be happy with your marriage to Zeeva?" I sarcastically asked.
"Yes, I should be, but I ... can't stop feeling guilty for you, that's why I'm looking for you," Joenathan replied.
I used to fall in love and be touched by Joenathan's words if it was two years ago. But now, I feel so sick. I felt as if Joenathan was coaxing me into a secret desire.
"You don't need to say my seductive words, Joenathan. I don't love you anymore, and-"
"Kyle," Joenathan cut me off, then gently touched my hand. "I know I made a big mistake, but didn't you think about our child in your womb?"
My gaze fell on Joenathan's hand clasping mine. There was a familiar thrill-a bit like the feeling of my love for Joenathan.
"I really felt guilty after learning of your pregnancy. I imagined the hardships you had gone through," Joenathan said, his voice softening.
I pulled my hand away hurriedly. I had almost forgotten that Joenathan had left me so cruelly.
"Are you trying to persuade me to come back to you?" I asked harshly.
Joenathan seemed a little reluctant to be honest with me. But I knew he wasn't completely lying. The look in his eyes highlighted regret quite clearly.
Even so, I could not accept his arrival easily. He would not be able to immediately gain access to our baby in my womb.
"If you care, you shouldn't have left me for another woman," I said, trying not to be pitying.
Joenathan nodded his head. "Yes, I made a terrible mistake. I wish I had known... that you were pregnant at the time."
"I can't go back to you, Joe," I emphasized my words.
"Kyle. Can you think more clearly? I'll give you time to think-"
"Joenathan, I don't love you. You better stop trying to seduce me. I can take care of this child just fine without you," I cut him off again.
Joenathan was surprised, then his face changed as if he was not letting go of something.
"You can't just think of yourself, Kyle. What if this child is born without a biological father?"
I've been thinking about that since I found out about my pregnancy. The moment I had to leave the Joenathan family mansion, I knew I had to bear the risk alone.
To be honest, there were several times when I felt that I wanted Joenathan's company to get me through my difficult times. But I couldn't watch Joenathan with another woman.
"I should have asked you. Why did you decide to leave me in the first place?" I threw the question back.
"Kyle, you should at least let me be able to convince you," Joenathan was still trying to seduce me.
I kept shaking my head. "I still can't go back to you. After this, I will reimburse you for the money you used to pay off my mother's treatment."
Just as I was reaching into my bag, Joenathan's words stopped me in my tracks.
"I don't accept your money, Kyle. I just need you to do something for me."
I don't know why I felt uncomfortable after Joenathan said that.
When my gaze shifted to Joenathan, I saw his gaze was intense. It was as if there was something he was planning to hide.
Before I could ask, Joenathan handed me a folder of documents. He also signaled for me to take the folder and open it immediately.
"In there is my offer for you. I can give you some time to think about your answer, Kyle."
As soon as I opened this folder, I immediately saw the agreement letter. The thing that caught my attention was the words "CONTRACT MARRIAGE AGREEMENT".
"Again? What do you mean, Joenathan?"
"I want us to get back together, Kyle. I'm facing a very serious situation, and I really need our child."
I read the writing on this Contract of Marriage Agreement. The more I read, the more my eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
The conclusion of all this was that Joenathan needed me to give birth to our child so that he could get a large inheritance share. Also, Joenathan wanted the Big Dore Orc company to remain headed by the descendants of the Albertto family.
"You don't love this child, Joe. You just need the money!" I snapped in exasperation, but my voice was low.
"Kyle, I love this kid, but I'm also facing a difficult situation. Isn't it fair that I benefit and our child lives in a rich family?"
"No. I will not agree to this deal, Joenathan. You can find another woman," I replied without hesitation.
"Kyle, do you not love me anymore?"
