Chapter 5 Crossed paths.

ELEANOR'S POV

The kids have been so excited to come to a new city especially Mia who has been so cheerful and carefree since we arrived here.

While the cab was stuck in traffic, I couldn't ignore the familiar aura that sent chills down my spine.

Nervously, I looked out of the window to find Desmond, seated in his car with his cold face.

Though something seemed to change about him.

He seemed to have emaciated and his facial structure was now accentuated with prominent and chiseled cheekbones.

"Madam is back sir," the chauffeur said.

"Hastened up then, so we could pick her up"." Desmond replied him.

I felt my heart clenched as I overheard their discussion. I couldn't help but wonder who the new madam is and what she looks like.

"Ele, you are way better than that," I comforted myself and tried to focus on my kids.

Finally, we arrived at our new home after a long journey. I chose a house in a secluded yet private residence.

The interior and exterior building of the house was so beautiful and of high taste. It's no surprise why the kids won't love it.

Enthusiastically, the kids took my hands as we all went on a tour around the house till we were tired.

While the kids were asleep, I was in my study scheming on how to defeat Desmond's company and also make a name for myself here in the states.

I grinned at every manipulative and scheming idea that seemed to cross my mind, I jotted them down ready to put them into action.

Certainly, my stay here in the US is going to be an interesting one, I chuckled as I made my way to the bedroom.

The following morning, after registering the kids at their new school, I decided to pay respect to my mother's tombstone so I stopped by a florist shop to get some fresh flowers.

Walking into the graveyard with sunglasses on, I spotted my mom's grave and walked briskly to it as if running into her arms.

I was overwhelmed with emotions as I stared at my mom's grave.

A sense of peace eluded me as I stood there, remembering the good times I spent with my mom.

A part of me felt I was close to her though a part of me still longed to see her and hold her close but I knew it wasn't possible as she was already gone.

My eyes glistened with tears as I remember how my mom struggled for her life on the hospital bed yet she still wished me a good life. I hated my father for being a bet addict and did nothing to save my mom from dying.

I remember going to beg my dad for some money to deposit for Mom's treatment but he bluntly refused as he was having fun gambling away mother's hard-earned money.

Wiping off my tears, I dropped the freshly bought rose flowers which were mom's favorite when she was alive.

A simple bouquet of white roses caught my attention while I was dropping mine.

I looked around the graveyard to find the person who dropped the flower but only saw the workers in the graveyard.

I couldn't help but wonder who must have dropped the flower as I also took notice of the graveyards around my mom's grave and noticed that it wasn't as clean as mom's own.

The person who dropped this flower must've been in a haste not to have stumbled upon me on my way here.

When I dropped the roses for mom, a gush of gentle breeze caressed my skin and I smiled as I knew my mom had accepted my gift.

Putting on my sunglasses, I left the graveyard just to meet my father who pestered me for money.

"You ungrateful child! You came back to the city and couldn't visit your family," he uttered.

His eyes gleamed brightly with greed as he took notice of my appearance.

"Child, you need to give some money to your father, we've been in debts since you divorced Desmond," He rattled on.

Anger rushed through me as I listened to my shameless father greedily demanding money from me without even choosing his words politely.

I threw a few dollars at me and headed to my car.

I heard him cursing me as he had never expected this behavior from me.

I entered my car and zoomed off without paying much attention to him.

With a sense of pride, I walked into the company with graceful strides acknowledging the greetings of my employees with a nod.

I walked into the conference room and apologized for keeping the investors waiting. I kept a smirk on my face as I looked at Desmond.

Coming into the conference hall, I was surprised to find Desmond here as one of our investors. I was lucky to have my mask and voice changer on.

I chuckled as things were falling into place.

The meeting went on as the investors and shareholders gave their suggestions on how the company should run.

I listened attentively to their ideas as I accepted some and rejected some too, Desmond was not really contributing to anything as he was so silent which was unlike him which made me concerned as I asked for his suggestion.

"Mr.Martinez, you aren't contributing to any of this, do you have anything to say ?" I asked him as all eyes were on him, waiting for his contribution.

"Miss CEO, you've made a good decision and accepted the right choices for the company's growth, and I have nothing more to say." He remarked.

Of Course, I will always make the right decision for my company, I smirked. The meeting was adjourned and it finally ended. I greeted the board of directors and investors as they left the conference room.

When I was sure everyone had left the hall, I removed my mask and plummeted onto my seat tired.

"Eleanor!" I heard someone call. I lifted up my face to find Desmond standing there.

"Shit!" I exclaimed, shocked and surprised, I wasn't ready to face Desmond yet.

He stood there agaped as he stared at me lost.
