I was attending to some files when Finnley, Jace and Mia ran into the room.
Closing the files, I took Mia on my lap while Taylor carried the boys on his lap though Finn was pouting.
Taylor came back to China after he was through with handling his company's affairs in the states.
He insisted on being a part of the family.
"Mom, who's our daddy?" Mia, the youngest child asked.
I was stunned at the question and wondered what prompted them to ask such a question.
"Why did you ask?" I questioned them her curiosity.
"We've been seeing other kids' parents come to pick them up from school but only you pick us up from school and our classmates keep asking to see our Dad." Jace said while swinging his chubby legs.
I told them about their dad and left out the bad memories of him. I didn't want my kids to see their father in a bad way nor did I intend to hide their father from them, though I made it clear that I'll raise them alone.
Finn, being the eldest and smartest of the trio, has always been so reasonable and well behaved. He always acted as a protector to me and his little sis.
After being so quiet he finally broke the silence. "Mom, you don't have to make hasty decisions that you'll regret in the future because of us, we'll always be here with you," he said it rather emotionally that it made me tear up.
I was filled with excitement as my bubbles of joy embraced me in a hug with their short arms wrapping me securely.
"Okay.... mom has to go back to work now." I announced as they released their grip on me. I took them to bed and laid them on the bed, singing lullabies for them to sleep.
When they had slept off, I kissed them on the forehead, turned off the lights and went back to work. After working tirelessly for hours until I felt my body sore and ache. Packing up my files, I went to my room to rest.
While I was returning to my room, light rays from a device in the children's room attracted me as I sneaked to see what they were up to.
Finn was scrolling through the device while Jace and Mia were looking into the screen with their eyes shining brightly. I couldn't tell what they were seeing but I decided to watch from the door.
"Don't bother mommy again, we are doing good without daddy." Finn warned his siblings sternly.
I noticed the glint in Mia's eyes disappear as she responded reluctantly to Finn.
Stealthily, I returned to my bedroom with sadness in my heart as it was evident that the kids needed a father figure in their life but I wasn't ready to be open to being in a relationship at the moment. I drifted off to sleep as the thoughts occupied my mind.
The following morning, we all went about our activities as usual.
"Finn, come over here," I called Finn who had his eyes fixed on his tablet.
Finn has always had a keen interest in electronic devices and gadgets that got me surprised at how smart he was when using them.
Finn came over to the dinning and had breakfast with us, after which I dropped them off at school.
After dropping the kids at school, I went over to my company.
Walking out of my private elevator, my secretary ran with files in his hands as he told me my schedule and reported some crucial matters to me while we were walking briskly to my office on the top floor.
I waved my hands dismissively at Nathan when I got to the doors of my office.
"I would like to be left alone, Nathan," I told him.
Sitting on my office desk, I took off my mask and attended to the files on my desk.
Glancing through the papers on my desk, I smiled as a cunning idea crossed my mind.
Immediately, I dialed Taylor's phone and requested him to book some tickets back to the States for me and my kids.
After the work hours, I went ahead to pick my kids from school.
"Come see this, babies." I told the kids. They ran with their tiny feets over to where I was seated.
These kids were too hyperactive for God's sake.
"Which of these houses do you like?" I asked them as they swiped the phone with their eyes glinting with joy and delight.
After several disapproval, the kids finally made an unanimous decision on the type of house they liked, which I made a purchase of.
"Come over here, Mia." She stuck her tongue out as she ran over to me.
"Darlings, you must put on a good behavior and promise to be with Mommy!" I cautioned them as they all nodded obediently which made me smile.
Although I wasn't proud of who their father was, I never regretted having them as my kids. They were the greatest thing I have ever had.
Taylor drove us to the airport to bid us farewell.
He insisted on joining us in the states later on when he's done with the work he has in China, so I had to let him.
I was so grateful to Taylor for being a great friend and for always being there for me and my kids. I and the kids hugged him as we parted farewell and went to board our plane.
Not quite long after I had buckled the seatbelts of the kids and fed them milk, they all fell asleep like little piglets.
As the gentle breeze caressed my skin, I had a nostalgic feeling deep down in me. When I looked at the kids, I could see the sparkles in their eyes as they chatted excitedly with each other.
I shrugged off the feelings that evoked, picked up our luggages and flagged down a cab that took us to a new home.
