She touched her chest. "As you already know, I'm Kira, the head of resources and welfare, and I've been working here for the last six years, then this is Mr. Scott's assistant, Bella. She's been here for four years" She gestured to a petite pretty woman sitting beside her who looked bored. Of course, his assistant is this pretty; I'm sure he's f*cked her, too.
Kira nodded toward a man sitting nearby. "This is Sheldon, our Vice President. He practically started the company with Mr. Scott, so he's been here the longest out of everyone in this board meeting, and he knows him better than any of us, too."
He scoffed. "You're damn right about that. I know him so well I can predict him, so I can tell you all we're wasting our time and miss Jason's time too. Why do we need to do this anyway?"
"We need to do this because, in case you have forgotten, Mr Vice President", she said mockingly, "We're going from a private company to a public one soon."
He sighed. "I understand that, Kira, but we all know very well that he couldn't care less about what the world thinks about him."
She rolled her eyes at him and scoffed. Well, it looks like Kira and "Mr vice President" have a thing going on.
She went on with the introductions. "That's Peter, our chief marketing manager. Then that's Rose. She's our senior financial advisor and the man sitting to her left is Leon, one of our board members. Lastly, for now, we have Bruce, one of our executives." She nodded toward the man sitting opposite her.
I smiled at them. "As some of may already know, I'm Mia Jason. It's nice to meet you all."
"Okay, now that we're done with introductions, Let's get down to business. We've been working as a private company for some time now and even at that, there are some funny rumours about our CEO. So we need your help with a few things and-"
"We have one major problem, Miss Jason", Sheldon interrupted, "And that's where you come in."
Kira glared at him. Yup, something is going on between them, they're so bad at hiding it.
"I am fully aware of the situation at hand, but I'm good at what I do, so just trust me, I can handle your CEO."
"Of course, we know you're good!." Kira beamed. "I wouldn't have begged you to make time to help us if you weren't so good. Please just work your magic and save us all".
"You made the best choice reaching out to me. I'm the best in this field." I smiled confidently. I wasn't just bluffing or anything; I've helped broken and almost run-down companies get back up again, and they're currently thriving in the business world because of me.
With the sh*tty reputation Dylan built for himself, It would boost my career if I made him look like a better person in the eyes of the world. That was my main goal with this. To get more recognition. Even if it meant working with the asshole who took me for granted.
Ignoring my thoughts that were getting me upset, I proceeded. "People love to feel like they're considered and like they're important too, so given the fact your CEO doesn't do interviews or make public appearances, people don't trust him and no one's going to work with someone who seems like a ghost. They might be thinking he'd just disappear with their hard-earned money one day, and we can't blame them for feeling that way, can we? Mr Scott needs to gain the approval and trust of society if he wants to keep his company up and running"
Kira agreed, smiling wide. "That's exactly what we need Mia, sorry! I mean miss Jason. Mr. Scott has built this company from the ground up; he worked so hard to get to this level, and even though he's the way he is, he's still popular in the business world. He's mostly in the news and magazines like-"
"You know all the magazines and shit doesn't mean a damn thing to him." Sheldon scoffed, "He couldn't care less about whatever they say about him in the papers. He's only interested in his company so he sees no reason to prove himself to the public"
I countered, "Well we're going to have to give him reasons why he needs the trust of the public. We have little time to get this done, so I advise you all to also come up with ways to convince your CEO. Help me out here; it's for the sake of this company, not just Mr Scott's image. We need to succeed and we need to do that soon"
Kira agreed. "when it comes to business, Miss Jason, he's the best. But he's not so great with going out there and being one with people. We need to work on that part a bit"
"Work on it just a bit?" Sheldon interrupted again. "That man is so Antisocial. In all my years working with him, I've only caught him smiling once, and that was when our rival company went under!"
"Don't worry, I'll make the world falls in love with Mr. Scott, I have a list of events and interviews he'll have to attend to."
"Thank you for trying to help us, but I still don't think any of this will work."
I was about to respond to Sheldon when the glass doors opened, and the atmosphere instantly changed. Everyone started arranging themselves properly.
Without taking a look around, Mr. Scott said, "You don't think any of what will work, Sheldon?."
He was no longer the man I knew, he wasn't my Dylan anymore. But then again, he was never really mine. He'd come a long way from that shy kid who my brother saved from being bullied all the time.
Once he was sitting down in his chair at the head of the table, he leaned forward and simply got down to business.
Kira spoke first. "We called this meeting on your behalf, Mr Scott."
"What exactly are we discussing on my behalf again, Kira?", he scoffed
"Well before we discuss that..." She smiled, looking over at me. "I'd like to introduce you to the woman who's going to help us."
Dylan followed her gaze until his eyes landed on me.
For the first time in over ten years, I looked into his icy, once warm, blue eyes.
And I felt absolutely nothing.
