CHAPTER 1

Roxanne Meyers

The sound of the Doppler filled the room as the doctor moved the device over my belly. My heartbeat along with the little being that grew inside me. Tears clouded my vision.

"Congratulations, Mrs. Meyers. ¡positive! is six weeks pregnant."

"Thank you, doctor," I said, though my mind was already elsewhere. I thought about Andrew, how happy he would be to find out.

Three years of marriage and a fascinating life. Who said you couldn't be happy in these times? A beautiful mansion, a promising career, and a loving husband... I was really lucky to be in this place.

"Mrs. Meyers. Fortunately, this time you are pregnant. I imagine that your husband will be very happy."

"No, he doesn't know anything yet, but I know he'll love the news. Doctor, thank you very much again."

"You don't have to thank me, Mrs. Meyers. In vitro fertilization is quite a complex process, but fortunately it has been a success for you. Although three attempts have passed, there is no better way to have a child than natural fertilization."

"I know." I replied a little frustrated.

I was silent, processing his words. My husband had fertility problems, so we had resorted to in vitro fertilization with an anonymous donor, under the strict conditions of a contract of silence and confidentiality. I loved my husband, and I wasn't going to let our relationship stall because of the inability to have children.

"Please, take good care of yourself, Mrs. Meyers," the Dr. gave me some recommendations and I left that office radiating happiness.

When I walked through the door, I crashed guiltlessly into a very elegant man, it smelled delicious, I looked up and blushed.

"Excuse me," I say looking into his enigmatic gray eyes.

He barely shook his head and continued on his way, I smiled in embarrassment.

With a heart overflowing with joy, I headed towards Andrew's office. Our company was an importer that my father had inherited from me before he died, and that, with a lot of effort and work, had grown to become a great emporium. I shared all this with him, the love of my life.

Although I was still very young, my little bean was already planted in my belly. It was only a matter of time and care for it to grow and make us happy.

When I arrived at my company, I pressed the elevator button and went up to the presidency. It would be a surprise, since Andrew wasn't expecting me; He would just be very happy to see me.

"Good afternoon, Gisel," I greeted my husband's secretary and noticed a slight nervousness on her face.

"Mrs. Meyers, how are you? Where is it going?"

"What do you mean, where am I going? To my husband!"

"I must announce it," she suggested in a trembling voice, something that seemed strange to me. I was the co-owner of the company.

"Not at all, Gisel. You don't have to advertise to me, I'm the owner of this company. Are you ok?"

"Ma'am, please," she said, rising from her desk and approaching me, taking my arm with a squeeze that was uncomfortable. I glanced at her sideways, feeling fury, I'd never experienced toward her, and wrapped away from her grip.

"Don't touch me, Gisel! What's going on? "

"You can't go to the lord's office without being announced; He is in a meeting."

"A meeting? But with whom? I'm the one in charge!"

She took my arm again, and this time I felt anger washing over me and my tone of voice changed to one full of anger.

"Let go of me, Gisel, once and for all! What is going on?"

"Madam, you can't go on," she looked at me pleadingly. "The man is on a very urgent call. He would kill myself if you continued without his authorization. Understand me, please have mercy on me."

Her words did not move me; they only piqued my curiosity even more. So, without further ado, I went into the hallway.

"He's not going to tell you anything because I don't need permission to walk in my own company. Understand? So don't worry."

I shook my head, furious at the secretary's insolence. But as I walked down the hallway leading to Andrew's office, my heart began to pound, and my hands sweated. Strange sounds emerged from within, and the image that presented itself to me through the half-open door left me petrified.

He was with my cousin, Samara Meyers. He possessed her furiously, holding her from behind on the desk. His hand tugged at her hair as a string of obscenities gushed out of her mouth. They were given over to debauchery... my husband... and my own cousin.

I felt my heart break into a thousand pieces as a wave of heartbreaking anguish took hold of me. I blinked in despair, rubbing my eyes, praying that what I was witnessing was an illusion, it couldn't be real! I refused to accept that the man I loved so much was betraying me in the cruelest way. No, please, no!

I collapsed on my knees before that hellish scene. Their uncontrollable moans filled the office, deaf to my presence, indifferent to my pain. They were immersed in their pleasure, oblivious to the devastation that their betrayal wrought on me.

My world was crumbling into pieces, every belief, every certainty I ever had, dissolved before my eyes.

Damned wretches! I sobbed without them hearing me, as anger and despair merged inside me, consuming me completely.
