Chapter 3 Dealing With my Nightmare

Kendra's POV,

It was a hint that I was engaged.

Was this a joke? Why was he acting as if he didn't know me? Or was he just pulling my legs?

His eyes affected me in so many ways, as though he was piercing through my soul, searching for an answer.

I melted, feeling a kind of sensation that I buried a long time ago. Dante adjusted his neck tie, suits weren't his thing and I guess he wore them to impress me.

He folded his lips with steady eye contact.

"It's simple, Miss Kendra, make my company win the business award of the year with your face, intelligence and smart moves..."

He was diverted, now wearing a grumpy face while letting go of the fork in his hand.

He crossed his legs while facing me properly.

My eyes didn't leave him either, I watched every detail about him. Obviously, he was also in haste.

He explained the reason why he had shown up for such a proposal. It wasn't his thing either, but I was the only one who could help.

He looked up at me through his lashes and licked his lower lip, jinxed and probably praying for a positive reply.

I guessed he was looking at his fingers, there was a ring in it, similar to the one I wore.

I wish he would stop repeating the same reasons over and over again.

Of course, he was a business person, a mafia, an emotional brute and I swear I would be the cause of his death.

He hadn't touched his meal, just like I, and when our eyes locked, we shyly looked away. How awful teenagers are.

"Let's just come to an agreement, it's going to be about your business too," he said, sweetly coated, leaning his face closer.

His speech made me scoff. Money, that was it. I doubt if he will change.

I was speechless and mindless at the same time as he spoke. Everything was centered around business.

Deep inside, I wish he would just stop. It was so unlike Dante to construct a proper speech without hurting his partner.

He hates talking, and his secretary usually does the dealings.

My eyes were drowsy and I could barely concentrate. Dante tried his best to convince me and I could see facts in his words.

If I stayed close to him, it would be easier to exert revenge. Perfect!

However, my ears picked up his lines when he said he needed my help to win the business person of the year.

I let out an unintentional scoff. He need not say more, for his greed made him seek me.

What pisses me off was the fact that he acted as though he didn't know me.

Good! It was time to break his wings and the best way of doing that was to come into his life just as he came to me.

My head was throbbing, yet I tried so hard to appear alright before him. My body was shivering.

"Great, I agree" my lips muttered, feeling like throwing up. Quickly, I took my hankie to cough out mucus stuck in my throat.

I shoved it in my purse, not wanting to look at it because it would be covered in blood.

"Are you okay?" He asked me even though he wasn't concerned, and I tried to believe he wasn't. Dante must have noticed something was off about him.

"So the contract... I will do the processing..." I diverted. It turns out I would hold the upper hand, and he had no choice than to obey me.

He seems fine with it and it gladdens me.

All I needed was 30 days to end his existence. I would become my own hero and prove to him that I survived, and I'm doing better.

I was swift to wrap up things with him because I wasn't myself and I felt like collapsing.

"It's weird how we met in person rather than our secretaries" he spurred out as his eyes were on the table. Just another way to stir up a conversation which I was hating.

That's true! It was rare to see them in person as Alisha always ran my errands, including business proposals, unless it was important!

He was also a busy man, but then what made him show up for such a meeting?

"Can I get your contact"

"No! You'll get the contract delivered to your doorstep," I snapped, infuriated, and he ducked his head at me. His expression read bewilderment.

"Wow, you're a pretty wild lady," he said, and I groaned.

"I hate it when you try to flirt, this is strictly business!" I barked and he gulped hard.

Even before he could say his closing remarks, I had already stood up to leave. My feet had gotten a distance away too.

However, the name he unexpectedly called drew me back.

"Missdra?"

I hesitated in my movement and stole a peek at him. I discovered he was on a phone call, looking nervous, tense and sad, but those eyes were on me.

That was the name he used to refer to me and hearing that for a long while got me jinxed.

Before I could blink those eyes, he hastily walked past me, our eyes briefly locked on each other.

His eyes read so much, even though they were quick, he was desperate, nervous, pained and puzzled.

He suspended the call and muttered:

"Do have a lovely day, Miss Kendra, and I hope to see you soon."

Immediately he said those lines, he let out a smile, one that looked like a clown, and I was flustered.

He took a calculative step forward, scrolling my eyes and I panted softly, flinching and folding my fist.

Goosebumps held me as I was fidgeting. He was so close that I could feel his breath all over me.

"I hope you'll regard me with love this time around."

He faded away after those lines and, for a moment, I felt a part of me was gone again.

Shifting my gaze back to the exit door, I realized it was gloomy outside and I suddenly desired to drown in it.

Who would have thought something as colorless as water could make the sky dark?

It had started to drizzle. I tried to rub the condensed water droplet on the glassy wall of the restaurant to get a clear view of the busy street ahead.

I shut my eyes and opened them, I found myself in my mansion, having dinner with Laura, my daughter.
