Chapter 9 The Scent of Money

"Juliet, you're amazing! The legendary queen is right here with me! Fifteen wins in a row-are you sure that won't shorten our lives?"

In the dorm, Juliet was happily playing games with her three roommates.

Bess looked at the screen, where a winning streak notification popped up, and felt a little giddy. "I've never reached such a high rank in my life. So this is what being on top feels like?"

Juliet laughed at her. "You've only just begun! We'll keep ranking up next time."

"Really?" Bess's eyes lit up, but then she hesitated. "What if we hold you back?"

When Juliet played alone, it looked super easy. But once she teamed up with them, it felt like they were slowing her down.

"Carrying beautiful girls to rank up isn't dragging me down at all," Juliet said with a smile.

Bess's eyes turned starry. "Ohhh... you're my goddess!!"

Just then, the usually quiet Lillian said, "Juliet, your skills are good enough to go pro."

Their rank wasn't high, but Juliet's ability to carry three teammates was impressive.

Juliet chuckled and said slowly, "Pro? The esports scene is way better now than before. They don't need me."

"Huh?" Bess asked, confused. "You're so talented! I heard pro gamers make a lot of money. If you hit it big, you could even get sponsorships. You're a girl, you're good at this, and you're pretty too. You'd definitely be a star!"

Hearing that, Juliet shook her head. "Esports is just about skill. It doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl, or what you look like."

Bess scratched her head. Juliet's words felt too philosophical; she didn't quite get it.

Lillian glanced at Juliet but didn't ask more. She changed the subject. "Juliet, deleting the post doesn't solve the problem."

Though she wasn't a student from the former affiliated high school and didn't know who Eileen was, she could tell from the forum content that the situation was not good for Juliet.

People usually defend their own.

Lillian didn't know much about the supposedly unfortunate Eileen, but she knew Juliet as her roommate.

After spending half a day together, she was sure that even if Juliet had done those things, there must have been a reason behind it.

The atmosphere in the dorm turned heavy again when that topic came up.

But Juliet didn't care at all. She raised an eyebrow and smiled, "If we can't solve the problem, let's solve the person who brought it up."

Lillian, "..."

Bess, "..."

Dora, "..."

"Just wait. I'm going to find her and let Eileen feel my iron fist once more." With that, Juliet headed for the door.

The three of them, "..."

"Don't act impulsively. We're on campus!" Bess and Dora quickly stood up to stop her.

Juliet smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm never impulsive."

Everything she did that had value was well thought out, okay?

But clearly, Eileen didn't hold any value for her. She was like an empty water bottle on the street. Juliet could either ignore it or kick it just to hear it clatter, then toss it in the trash.

In the end, it wasn't a big deal.

"But..."

Before the two could finish, Lillian suddenly said, "Juliet, I'm going with you."

Bess's eyes went wide with shock. "Lillian, you can't too..."

What if something happened? They were just students; they couldn't afford the consequences.

Lillian smirked slightly and said calmly, "It's not a big deal."

Bess swallowed hard. "Then... I'll go too, along with Dora!"

Dora nodded vigorously.

"Sit down!" Juliet huffed lightly and ruffled Bess's hair. "Why are you trying to tag along? You want to get hurt?"

"Don't underestimate me, I... I..."

"Okay, okay." Juliet smiled. "You two stay in the dorm."

Bess and Dora looked like good students; she didn't want them getting mixed up in trouble.

In the end, Bess and Dora stayed behind in the dorm.

Juliet strolled out, glancing over at Lillian. "So, why are you following me?"

Bess might've just been caught up in the heat of the moment, but Lillian definitely wasn't that kind of person.

Lillian lowered her gaze and casually said, "If the two of us got into trouble, I've got family who'd take care of the mess."

"Oh? I didn't expect you'd really go that far for me as your roommate." Juliet said, throwing an arm around Lillian's shoulder.

Lillian had wavy hair, a polished look, and a noticeable scent of perfume.

It was a bittersweet floral fragrance with hints of vanilla and sandalwood. Only rare, high-end antique perfumes had such a scent.

Juliet not only caught the whiff of the perfume but also the scent of money.

This girl had some serious cash...

Lillian's expression was still a bit awkward. "I'm not doing this for you. I just don't want someone in our dorm getting disciplined on the first day of school, that's all."

"Relax," Juliet chuckled. "I'm always the one dishing out the punishments, not taking them."

Lillian shot her a glance but didn't say anything.

"What? You don't believe me?" Juliet asked with a smile.

Lillian turned to her, her eyes saying it all- I don't believe you at all!

Juliet didn't feel the need to defend herself.

If she didn't believe her, so be it.

When they reached the dorm building, Juliet leaned against the wall, slowly pulled out her phone, and dialed a number.

"Sister, hey~"

Her tone was classic Juliet-friendly yet tinged with sarcasm, making it easy for people to let their guard down.

On the other end, Eileen was on high alert, her voice shaking a bit. "What do you want?"

Juliet chuckled softly. "Sister, I told you that you're not too bright, didn't I? You don't believe me, but you keep doing these dumb things that annoy others and end up hurting yourself. Why bother?"

"I... I didn't post anything on the forum..."

"Whether you did or not, I don't care. You know where the art department's girls' dorm is, right? Get over here."

Lillian's eyes were filled with confusion.

People could tell that someone like Juliet was a troublemaker, and not the kind you wanted to mess with. She might as well have had "I want to hit you" written all over her face. Would Eileen really show up?

Eileen wasn't dumb; she would definitely just refuse to come. No one knew better than her about the vicious nature hidden beneath Juliet's pretty exterior.

Juliet's smile got even brighter. "Sister, I have a backup of Grandpa's will. You wouldn't want me to post it on the school forum, would you?"

No matter what Eileen said, as soon as Juliet put that will out there, it would be clear who the adopted daughter was and who the biological daughter was.

Sure enough, Eileen panicked. "Juliet, it really wasn't me, you have to believe me..."

Before she could finish, Juliet said slowly, "I'll give you three minutes."

Then she hung up.

On the other end, Eileen sat in her dorm, listening to the busy signal on her phone, her face pale and her expression turning a bit sinister.

"Eileen?" Moira noticed and quickly asked, "Is that Juliet bothering you again?"

Eileen's eyes were red as she tightly gripped Moira's hand. "What should I do? Moira, she won't let this go... I'm really scared..."

When she said she was scared, it wasn't all an act.

Juliet didn't play by the rules at all. Ever since four years ago, Juliet had always been the type to take action without saying much.

Just thinking about how Juliet had spoken earlier made Eileen tremble a little.

Moira held her hand and comforted her. "Don't worry, Eileen. You just go distract her, and I'll get a few people to teach her a lesson. We'll make sure she never bothers you again."

"But this is school..."

"It's fine. With the new semester starting, there are plenty of people around. No one will care about this."

Eileen seemed moved to the point of almost crying. "Thank you... I wouldn't know what to do without you."
