Kory was puzzled when he couldn't reach Michael. I asked from the side, "Honey, who are you calling?"
He remained calm, "I'm trying to reach Michael. I wanted to ask him something, but he isn't picking up."
I reassured him, "It's quite normal at this hour. He might be out with friends, having dinner and drinks. Maybe he's even with someone he loves."
I deliberately trailed off, leaving him to his own thoughts.
"Nonsense!" Kory interrupted me angrily.
"Why are you angry at me? I am just telling the truth. Michael has his own life. It's normal for him to have desires."
Kory's face grew even darker with anger.
Lately, Michael had been rather indifferent towards him. Even when he did answer the phone, his voice sounded strange.
When Kory asked, Michael always said he was exercising, which only made Kory more suspicious.
He became more determined in his plans involving me. When we got married, we agreed to keep our finances separate, with neither interfering with the other's money.
The house was paid for equally by both sides.
The cars were one each for Kory and me, and everything else was provided by my family.
My parents even bought me a villa as a wedding gift, which had doubled in value due to policy changes.
Kory's plan was likely centered around this house.
With that money, he could enjoy a carefree life with Michael in Europe.
I smirked at his wishful thinking.
Meanwhile, Jimmy was updating me on his progress.
He had deceived Michael into believing he was a Frenchman just visiting friends and would soon return to France.
He expressed his deep affection for Michael, claiming he had many businesses back home and promised Michael a future if he joined him in France.
However, Jimmy mentioned that he needed to bring enough money to gain his family's approval.
With his generous spending and charming looks, Michael was already convinced.
Without much thought, he agreed and set his sights on Kory to steal my money.
Kory was furious, since he was unable to find Michael these days.
Later, Michael calmed him down, explaining that he wanted to give Kory some space and asked if he had managed to get any money through their scheme.
Kory vented his frustration on Michael, dismissively saying, "She said we need to wait because of the preparation period. I guess she hasn't made up her mind yet. But it's not urgent; she listens to everything I say now."
Michael gritted his teeth, enduring the intense passion, knowing this was the best time to make demands, as Jimmy had taught him.
"Then give me your money first. I have a friend in France who can help us find a good place to live."
Caught up in the heat of the moment, Kory agreed without much thought.
Afterward, he handed his bank card to Michael.
When Kory returned home, I used the excuse of doing his laundry to secretly check his wallet. Without finding the card with his savings, I knew he had taken the bait.
I informed Jimmy that Kory had handed over his bank card to Michael, advising him to improvise.
As long as Michael could be taken out of my life, it would be fine.
Without his money, Kory began frequently suggesting we have a child.
I used my period as an excuse for a while, then called Suzanne for help.
Suzanne quickly came over after learning the situation, saying she was scared to live alone and wanted me to stay with her for a few days.
Kory's face was grim, but he couldn't protest. It was reasonable after all.
Unexpectedly, the day after I moved in, Kory's mother, Kate Marsh, called me.
"Gillian, I heard from Kory that you're planning to move out?"
I feigned indifference and replied with a simple "Yeah."
Kate was displeased with my attitude. "Yeah? What's your problem? My son told me he wants to have a child with you, but you won't even hold hands. What's worse, now you're moving out."
I replied, "That's not what I meant, Kate. I've just been feeling unwell lately."
She persisted, "Don't think I don't know what you are up to, Gillian. Tell me, is there someone else?"
I was shocked. "Kate, how can you think that of me? I'm not that kind of person!"
But she scoffed on the other end, "Don't bother denying it. Once I have proof, you'll see how I deal with you."
After hanging up, Suzanne sighed deeply.
"Gillian, she doesn't seem easy to deal with."
I replied coldly, "She was aware of her son's bisexuality yet deceived me into this marriage."
I glanced at my car parked outside Suzanne's building and couldn't help but smirk to myself.
