Chapter 3 Mended ties

ETHAN's POV

I watched her walk majestically from the hotel from my window and I couldn't help but smile brightly, because she was everything I had expected her to be and at the end of the day, even so much more.

Alexander Thompson. A business tycoon, young and mature, a go-getter, fierce, powerful and wise. She could easily be feared by her competitors because she knew what she was doing, and she put it in their faces every time.

Not for once has she backed down on any case she was fighting in court, and not for once has she lost any. Was she an attorney? No. But when she is taken to court, even with the most incompetent attorney, she would win every case.

She just had her way around everything, and maybe now my heart as much as she had gotten her way round my groin.

It was quite unfortunate that she could not remember anything from yesterday's bliss, maybe it had its own good reason because if she knew just how good she was to me, she might bury her head in shame for life, and not be able to talk to me again.

I was surprised at how she opened up so easily to me yesterday and from what I had heard about her, she knew how to take in alcohol, so why did she begin to talk so quickly?

It wasn't even up to 20 minutes, but it was one good time of her life. I wonder how she would feel like the day she sees I am a big business man myself and not some kind of bartender like she assumed me to be.

I had only taken over that position because I was trying to get her attention, one I was not able to have since all these while that I have been chasing her, and it surprised me to know that she did not even know that I have been on her trail.

She could not even recognize me, and I would not blame her, especially since it made getting into her pants easy for me. Maybe she thought I would blackmail her sometime in the future, so she gave me this money to shut me up, or give her enough right to kill me in the future, in case I opened my mouth.

I watched as she drove away, and I knew that we would be meeting soon. I did not need a soothsayer to tell me that.

And alas! My thoughts were just on point, because I saw her phone lying helplessly on the table. She had forgotten it in her rush, and if there was one thing I knew about Alexander, it was that she would not come back for it, so I would have to take it to her.

I rushed into the bathroom quickly to get dressed, but decided against wearing the same suit from yesterday, so I went to a shopping mall first to have a change of clothes before heading down to her office, hoping that she would have gotten there.

By my calculations, she would have to go home first to freshen up, but the Alex I knew was not one to rest at home, even on a Saturday morning, so I knew then that she would be going to work right after.

ALEX's POV

"Ah!" I gasped out when I got to the parking lot and discovered that my drivers and my guards were not there, and I wondered if they slept in the car, then quickly went to stretch their body, waiting for me to come back.

But then it flashed back to me that I had asked them to go home, because I was going to take longer than usual at my meeting.

This was not the first time I would tell them this and they would have easily felt that it was because I knew they had a family to be with as well, so I let them go home.

Either way, I am grateful that I remembered to do that, but I then wondered what would have become of me if the stranger was trying to hold me hostage. If he had tried anything funny, I would have gotten no one to look for me and get me out as soon as possible, but I am glad he did not.

I resisted the urge to look back one last time at the clubhouse and hotel that has given me so many memories in one night that I would not forget in a hurry and I drove out to my house as quickly as I could.

It was already past 7am and I got to work before 8:30am everyday, so today should not be an exception as well, no matter what happened.

Maybe this is why I cannot afford to get married yet, I would be distracted from achieving my 1 billion sales per year goal and this would slow down my rapid growth and success.

My parents thought otherwise anyways, they wanted me to be settled now so that I would not have so many men troppiing around for my money, but I was not interested after trying out a few relationships.

I got home and noticed that there was no weird reaction from my driver and guards, which meant that everything was under control, as they were already set to take me to work, but my parents were worried as hell.

"Alex, my dear, what happened to you? Where have you been? Why did you not take our calls? Did you know we were worried sick about you? Especially when we heard already that your meeting ended early yesterday" my mom said with concerned eyes when she saw me.

"I am sorry, I did not know when my phone rang yesterday, I was fixed up doing something entirely different so I slept at the hotel." I did not want to lie, and I did not have to, so I simply did not say the full truth.

"You did not think you should have informed us at least before making that decision, or even your drivers who you just sent a text to?" My dad said, sitting calmly as always, not moved around like my mother, or at least he was not showing his anxiety.

"I am so sorry, I forgot." I simply said as I made an attempt to show them that I was going to be late for work if I did not get going now.

"Sweetie, don't you think you should rest a little then?" Mom called out to me as I was rushing back to my room to get dressed for work, but my dad shook his head, which gave me the approval of hurrying up, and doing what works for me. After all they knew how much I loved to work, but I wondered if they did not notice that there was something different about me this morning.
