Chapter 4 Turmoil

ALEX's POV

I was unable to do anything other than get dressed for work. After a quick shower, even the makeup for my beautiful caramel skin was not visible, so I just dressed up in red, and hurried out of the house.

We had a maid and others who came by the house to stop the big space from being a graveyard but I still felt alone this morning, and it made me feel so sore. Maybe that is why I hardly came back home in time.

I got to work just in time for any of my workers to notice that something was wrong with me, or had gone wrong with me in fact today, and I felt grateful for how determined I always was to be this consistent.

Upon getting there, I reached for my phone and wondered why I had not fiddled with it since I left home, only to realize to my greater dismay that it was not even there at all.

"I lost my phone!"

I got up and wanted to leave the office to meet my guards outside, but I decided against creating a scene so I just rang them up from where I was seated.

"Stad, did you by chance see my phone? Or did you notice where I could have kept it? I can't seem to find it here in my bag" I said, trying so hard to keep my cool, so he would not notice that it was bothering me.

What bothered me so much was not that I had just lost a phone which was almost a million dollars, but what gave me more headaches was that this phone was probably with a stranger!

If this phone had made its way with the strange man I met the night before and I even told him the password, because I was obviously drunk, it could be the end of me.

All my work, my projects, the things I needed so much to hide would be out there for the world to see.

He could blackmail me! Try to extort money for me! Do worse things because of the information at his disposal!

I am finished!

I needed to locate him and I needed to do that as fast as possible. There was no point going too far in my thoughts when I could just go out there and get him, especially since he might not even know yet that the phone is with him- if he did not have ulterior motives.

So I got up and started walking towards the door, with my heart pounding fast, and almost in my mouth, but I was determined to get him before he got to me.

My thoughts were distracted a little about how I would feel when I see him again, would my heart skip a beat? Would I be overtaken by his beauty again?

Why was I even thinking about him! I didn't even know this man from Adam.

As I got to the office's compound, I was taken aback by his beautiful eyes, I could see it behind the black sun shade he was putting on.

I knew he was the one, my body knew that too, and I wondered why, because this was a strange feeling, one I do not think I have ever experienced before now.

I swallowed hard, and took my thoughts back to the fact that he might have just come here to confound my problems, and he would not be the cute man I thought him to be once he did that.

While I was pondering on what to do, ensuring that he did not notice that I had reduced my pace very slowly so I could meet up with him, I saw that he did not even look directly in my direction. He was going somewhere else, when he should have been coming to me.

"How impudent of him to do that! What did he take me for? Did he expect me to be running after him before I talked to him? What nonsense!" I thought about killing him in my thoughts, but trying to maintain my cool on the outside.

I tried to be reasonable then and realized that he did not see me really and he was not intentionally avoiding me or trying to spite me, after all, he was quite far from me so he would not notice me easily.

Ethan was entering my office and I knew he was going to inquire about me, so I saved him the stress and walked towards him with my guards. They got too close quickly and immediately he saw me, he smiled and moved further, coming straight to me without any questions.

I felt relieved again that he had not seen me, and that meant he was not playing any games with me. My protector prevented him from moving forward and it was my own turn to smile at him. My own smile was not genuine, it was rather mischievous.

It was time to put up the act of being a boss lady and I moved closer to them as though coming to investigate the source of the short strife. I ordered the guard then to let him come closer to us and I was determined not to say anything till I heard him talk.

"Good morning, Alex or should I say Ms. Thompson?" He said as I ushered him back to my office. There was going to be no need to go out since he was here already. I can always be thankful for that.

"Good morning, Mr. Ethan...?" I said his name, pausing for him to remind me of his surname, but also giving him the clue he needed to stay away from any personal relationship with me. I would rather be addressed by my full name by this stranger.

He ignored me and was rather being a gentleman as he expressed his gratitude to me for receiving him in my office and explained that he had come to return my phone.

I was aware of that, but I acted surprised and pretended that if he had not given me the phone, I would easily have gotten another one. And I was even surprised that I was gloating for this stranger. There was no reason at all to impress him.

As he handed it over, he turned to leave but not before placing the money I had thrown at him in the hotel on my desk.

"I'm not a man who can be bought with money."Ethan said, with that he departed leaving me surprised by his actions. He has yet again caused trouble for me.
