Chapter 5 Clashed souls

The scent!

It hit him like a punch to the gut-a scent so intoxicating, so overwhelming that it sent his Alpha instincts into overdrive. His grip on his glass tightened as every nerve in his body went on high alert. The scent was sweet and sharp all at once, like the air after a storm mixed with something floral and undeniably powerful.

Kieran's head snapped up, his gaze scanning the room as his heart began to race. The scent grew stronger, and his wolf stirred beneath the surface, demanding he find the source. His breath came faster, his pupils dilating as his senses sharpened, honing in on the intoxicating aroma that was driving him wild.

What the hell is that?

His entire body tensed as his Alpha instincts screamed at him to track the scent down, to follow it, to find the person it belonged to. Kieran stood abruptly, causing Ben to raise an eyebrow.

"You okay, man?" Ben asked, but Kieran barely heard him. His eyes scanned the dance floor, his mind focused solely on the scent that had completely taken over his senses.

There-across the room.

His eyes locked onto her.

She was stunning-no, more than stunning. She was absolutely mesmerizing. Her dark hair fell in loose waves around her shoulders, her skin flawless in the dim light of the club. She wore a leather jacket that hugged her curves, paired with jeans that showcased legs that seemed to go on forever. But it wasn't just her beauty that had Kieran frozen in place-it was the scent. That overwhelming, intoxicating scent that flooded his senses and made him feel like he was drowning in it.

His wolf howled inside him, clawing at the surface, desperate to get closer to her. He had to-no, he needed to.

Without another word to Ben, Kieran moved toward her, his body acting on pure instinct. He could hear the pounding of his heart in his ears, the blood rushing through his veins, as he pushed through the crowd. Every step brought him closer to the source of that maddening scent, closer to the woman who was making his entire body feel like it was on fire.

And then he was there, just a few feet away from her.

Kassia was laughing at something, completely unaware of the man who had been stalking her through the crowd. But then, something shifted. Her laughter faded, and her entire body tensed. It was like an invisible string had pulled her attention, and her eyes found him-Kieran.

The moment their gazes met, the world seemed to stop.

Kassia's breath hitched in her throat as her heart slammed against her ribcage. She could feel the primal pull of something deep inside her, something that had been dormant for so long but was now roaring to life. Her vampire instincts surged to the surface, her body going rigid as she stared at the man who had just walked into her line of sight.

He was the most handsome man she had ever seen.

His dark hair was slightly tousled, his sharp jawline framed by a slight scruff, and his eyes-his eyes were piercing, a shade of green so deep it seemed to bore into her soul. He was tall, muscular, and exuded a raw power that made her heart race. But it wasn't just his looks that had Kassia frozen in place-it was the intense connection she felt the moment their eyes locked.

She couldn't explain it, but something about him called to her in a way she had never experienced before. Her vampire instincts screamed for her to run, to get away from him-he was a werewolf. They were supposed to stay away from each other. That was the rule. That was the law. Vampires and werewolves didn't mix, and they definitely didn't... do whatever this was.

But despite the alarm bells going off in her head, Kassia couldn't move. She couldn't tear her eyes away from him. The connection was too strong, too powerful to ignore.

Kieran's steps quickened as he closed the distance between them, his eyes never leaving hers. He didn't care that she was a vampire-his mind screamed at him to remember who he was, who she was, but his body refused to listen. His wolf was in control now, and all it wanted was to get closer to the source of the scent that had set him ablaze.

Kassia's breath hitched as she watched him approach. Every step he took made her pulse race faster. She tried to look away, tried to shake the intense pull that seemed to tether them together, but it was useless. It was as if the world had disappeared, and all that remained was this impossibly handsome stranger, coming closer and closer.

When Kieran finally reached her, they stood inches apart, the air between them crackling with tension. For a moment, neither of them spoke, their breaths mingling in the space between them.

"You..." Kieran's voice was low, gravelly, and filled with the kind of intensity that made Kassia's stomach flip. "You're... what are you?"

Kassia's lips parted, her throat suddenly dry. She could feel the pull, the overwhelming attraction that seemed to bind them together. She didn't want to answer, didn't want to acknowledge the reality of what they both were.

"You're a wolf," she breathed, the words escaping her before she could stop them.

Kieran's eyes darkened, his chest heaving as he fought to keep control of himself. "And you're a vampire," he murmured, his voice thick with disbelief. "We shouldn't... this..."

"I know." Kassia's voice trembled slightly, but she couldn't move. Couldn't bring herself to break away from the intense connection between them. "But I... I can't seem to care."

"Neither can I," he admitted, his hand lifting almost of its own accord, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. The touch sent a spark shooting down her spine, and Kassia shivered, her skin tingling where his fingers had grazed.

"This is crazy," she whispered, her eyes locked on his. "We shouldn't even be talking."

"I know," Kieran muttered, his voice strained with the effort it took to keep himself in check. His hand lingered by her cheek, fingers brushing lightly against her skin, as though he couldn't stop himself from touching her. "But I can't stop."

The intensity of his gaze sent a shiver through her. She could see it in his eyes-the same wild, uncontrollable need that she felt burning inside her. It was like something primal had taken over, something that went beyond logic or reason.
