Chapter 7 We Are Going To The Hospital

Kira's POV

I sit on the bed in the hotel room, staring at the phone in my hand. It rings through and then stops. It's funny that I wanted to talk to Malcolm so badly and now that he wants to talk to me, I'm not willing.

My phone buzzes again, breaking through my thoughts. Malcolm's name still flashes across the screen. Taking a deep breath, I decide to answer. "Hello?"

"Hello, Kira. I heard you're on a business trip," he says, his tone as cold as ice. He even called me by my name. It's rare for him to do that.

I force a smile, even though he can't see me. "Oh, yeah, babe. I'll be away for a month, but I'll miss you."

"Okay," he replies, his tone flat. Ouch!

I chew on my bottom lip, feeling the thick tension between us even as we're miles apart. "You don't miss me? You won't miss me?" I can't help but ask, hoping for reassurance.

"Kira," he sighs, his voice sounding like he's tired and is forcing himself to continue talking to me. Tears fill my eyes, but I don't let them fall.

"I'm sorry, Malcolm," I blurt out, guilt washing over me like the ocean waves against the sand. "I know I messed up. I'm really sorry. I don't know what happened..."

"Kira, listen-" he starts saying, but just then, there's a knock at my door.

"Wait a second, let me see who's at the door," I say, scurrying to my feet and putting on my slippers. I glance at the phone, still connected, but I don't want to keep him waiting.

I open the door, and my eyes meet Gavin's, a small smile lingering on his lips, enhancing his attractive features.

Wow Kira, you're admiring your boss while on the phone with your boyfriend? My subconscious questions me. Damn it. What's wrong with me?

"I'll talk to you later. My boss wants me," I say, quickly hanging up the phone before I can commit another shameful act.

Gavin's brow furrows as he observes me. "Are you okay Miss Ellington? You look pale."

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine sir," I whisper, forcing a smile that doesn't reach my eyes. "It's just a friend I was talking to. You need something?"

"I have told you to call me Gavin right? My stubborn little assistant." He says, a small smirk tugging at his lips.

I look away, trying to hide the redness forming on my face. Why does this guy have to make hating him so difficult?

"We have a business party tonight," he continues when I don't reply. "You won't have to present anything. We'll just be mingling with some potential clients. Take the rest of the afternoon to get ready."

"Okay," I respond with a forced smile. The last thing I want is to socialize when I'm feeling like total shit.

I glance at myself in the mirror, cringing as my reflection stares back at me with dark circles and pale skin that makes me look like a ghost.

I try to shake off the fatigue, telling myself to pull it together. But as I drag my body to take a shower and start preparing, I begin to feel nauseous. I thought this thing was called 'morning' sickness.

I sit down for a few minutes, waiting for the dizziness to pass. After about 15 minutes, I push myself to get up, but my body feels weak. Every movement is a struggle, and I just want to sleep.

At exactly 7:00 p.m, a knock sounds on my door again, and I drag my feet to open it. Gavin stands there, a cup of coffee in his hand. He looks exotic with a three piece black suit that definitely costs more than my earnings at Wolfe enterprises this past four months.

His eyes widen as he stares at me. "Why aren't you ready? Wait...what's going on? Are you okay? You don't look well."

"I'm fine," I reply weakly, my voice trembling. My stomach twists, and just as I open my mouth to explain, the smell of the coffee Gavin is holding hits my nose, and I feel the bile rising in my throat.

Turning on my heels, I rush to the bathroom, clutching the sink as I lean over and throw up. The world spins, and I hear footsteps behind me. "Kira! Are you okay?"

As I heave, I feel his hand on my back, supporting my hair. "Who am I kidding? You're not okay," he says. "Get ready. We are going to the hospital to check what's wrong."

I freeze, my eyes widening. The thought of going to the hospital sends a wave of panic through me. What if they find out about the pregnancy? What if Gavin finds out? No! We can't go.

"I'm fine," I manage to say, my voice shaky. "I just need to–"

"No, you're not fine," he insists, kneeling beside me. "You can't just throw up your guts and then claim to be fine. You need medical assistance."

I glance up at him, my heart pounding in my chest. I can see the concern etched on his face, the way his brow furrows with concern.

It makes me feel guilty, knowing I'm putting him through this. And that he doesn't know the truth about it. But I can't let him discover the truth. Not now, not ever.

"Gavin, please," I plead, locking eyes with him. "I really don't think it's that serious. I just... I just need to rest."

He shakes his head, frustration evident in his eyes. "Kira, this isn't normal. You've clearly been sick for days. We're going to the hospital."

I close my eyes, taking deep breaths to calm my racing heart. "What if they find out?" I whisper, fear tightening my throat.

"Find out what?" he asks, confusion flashing across his face.

My eyes widen. I need to be careful. I can't tell him the truth. I can't reveal my secret. "Please I just need to rest. Please Gavin."

Gavin narrows his eyes, studying me, and it feels like he knows that there's more to it than what I'm letting on. "You can't hide this from me, Kira. Whatever it is that you're going through, I'll find out. But right now, we're going to that hospital."

My eyes widen. I can't go to the hospital with him. Oh shit, what do I say?
