Chapter 7 Brewing Trouble

It was a Tuesday morning and the news of Ethan's new secretary had spread like no man's business in the company

Ava who had gotten out of bed late had not noticed the eyes that stared at her as she rushed through the hallway thinking of a million excuses to tell her boss, his freshly squeezed orange juice in her hand, she was certain the ice had thawed by then.

So back to excuses

You left me stranded in the middle of the night

my alarm got broken

No way, none of it sounded all right at all!!

Her rush soon came to a sudden halt as she clashed with another worker, half of the juice spilling...she had not put the cover in place

"Ughhh!!.." came the reaction of the lady she had bumped into.

"I'm sorry" Ava was saying, she really had no time for that, she was about to resume her sprint when she was pulled back by the collar.

"Hey... Who do you think you are" the lady shrieked.

Ava's eyes widened, she pulled herself back from her hold and moved backwards

"I said..." Her words hung in her throat as she met the most beautiful lady she had ever seen in her entire life, she had thick black hair and sparkling jade eyes, her clothes were designers and she looked like an Anime that came to life.

Ava suddenly felt fat, if she had worn her normal clothes at least it would have helped her play supporting role better but to think she was putting on the designers her Boss got her made her recoil.

The lady pulled her hair backwards in a shampoo commercial style, she looked really annoyed but Ava had no time for that. She looked at her ID clipped to the label, it read: Maya Chen, Senior Marketing Manager with employee ID MTK-9421.

"I'm really sorry miss..Maya, but I'm kinda in a hurry"

"What's that to me, you spilled orange juice on my shoes...it's worth a year's salary" She yelled angrily.

"Are you asking for a refund, fine... Here's my card" Ava placed the card hurriedly in her hand and ran out of her reach.

"I'm sorry but I really have to go" she breathed to the lady staring at her back

Ethan sat calmly, his Rubik's cube in hand, his secretary was late... again on her second day of work

He didn't like her, he really didn't like the fact that she bothered him, she was like a mosquito singing in his ears, he wanted to...to..

Forget about it.

Bryant brought this upon him, after that he had abandoned him, he should be angry at Bryant not a mere employee.

The sudden noise at the door startled him, when he looked and saw his secretary hurrying in, he stood up and walked up to her

"I .."

"On your second day" he said moving close to her, she moved a step backwards but he moved closer.

"I didn't get my juice, my desk wasn't arranged and I'm sure I've missed half of my schedule"

"I was...you...I.."

"Shhhhh..." Ethan said placing his index finger on her lips

"Did the designers get into your head?..." He looked down at her hand and reached down

Ava closed her eyes and held her breath, her heart thumped loudly she was sure it would burst, she wanted to move away from his breath, his voice was too calm it gave her goosebumps

"... My juice...ruined" he took it from her and poured it on the floor, it spilled on both her shoes and he's

Great! was today drink spilling on shoe day?

"...and my shoes too" He said as he walked back to his desk

Ava sighed out, she couldn't believe, the devil she had as a boss...she was definitely going to ruin him and do it with a lot of joy in her heart, she needed to start digging

"Clean that mess up"

She couldn't believe her ears

"You made this mess" she couldn't hold herself back especially for someone who murdered her father

Ethan paused in his tracks, he turned to her a puzzled look on his face

"Then should I clean it up?..."

"... You made me cause the mess" he shouted as he threw the paperwork on his desk at her

Ava flinched as paper flew in the air in every direction....alright god of thunder, have it your way she thought to herself as she stared straight at him, his eyes were a shadow of what was going through his head

"I guess I'll have to clean this up too" she said nonchalantly squatting to pick up the papers

"I mean what do we have cleaners here for" she added

Ethan watched her warily with a mixture of guilt and surprise at her reaction....she bothered him, a lot more than he wanted

"Just forget it....send the cleaners in and go get me my juice, I'll be on top of the roof" he said and walked out feeling uncomfortable

Ava stood up and straightened herself, she was done with tolerating his nuisance, she walked out of the office thinking of the perfect way to get back at him

Ava stood at the counter, still fuming from her earlier encounter with her boss.

"Unbelievable, he thinks he can just humiliate me like that..." she muttered to herself.

The waiter handed her a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

"Here you go, ma'am."

Ava took the glass, her mind still reeling from the confrontation.

"Thanks..." she replied distractedly.

Just then, a customer approached the counter, holding up his cup.

"Excuse me, I didn't like the flavor of this coffee. Can I get a new one?"

The waiter apologized and took the cup from the customer.

"Let me brew a fresh cup for you, sir."

Ava watched as the waiter expertly crafted a new cup of coffee. Her eyes narrowed as he added a shot of espresso.

"Ah-ha... an idea..." she thought to herself.

The waiter handed the customer his new coffee and turned to Ava.

"Is everything okay, ma'am?"

Ava smiled sweetly.

"Oh, yes... everything's fine. Can I ask, is that a shot of espresso you're adding?"

The waiter nodded. "Yes, it is."

Ava's smile grew wider. "Great... just great..."

She took the orange juice and discreetly poured a shot of espresso into it.

"Let's see how Mr. 'god of thunder' handles a caffeine boost..." she thought, a sly grin spreading across her face.

With the doctored orange juice in hand, Ava left the cafe, eager to see the effects of her mischief.

The effect was right on the way to send her to jail for murder. She took the juice and brought it to Ethan on the roof, his black outfit giving him the air of the evil he embodied

" Your juice" she said wandering what the effect would be, a sore throat?,rashes?

He took it from her without looking and gulped down the content

"Finally" he said and she frowned, no itching?

Ethan paused and cleared his throat

"Is this freshly squeezed?" He asked

"Yes" she nodded, waiting not sure to expect, the first flush of delight coming when he held his throat

"I can't breathe" he coughed suddenly

Ava rolled her eyes, such a cry baby but he reaction soon switched to horror as she watched him struggle for breath

"Sir...are you okay?" She said running to him

"B..b.."

Ava panic level rose as he fell to the ground, she couldn't understand what he said "I'll go get help" she was about to go when he held her back with the last breath he had

"M..mur..murderer" he said and passed out

Ava's eyes widened as she fell to the ground in shock

"Ethan... Ethan"

No ..no..no,he wasn't breathing

Had she really killed Ethan walker, the CEO of Eagles Logistics and New York's most eligible bachelor?..the man who murdered her father...
