Chapter 4 Meeting the master

Cara povs

The leaves clung to me like damp reminders of the storm that had passed, and the soil beneath me was sticky with mud. Rain had poured relentlessly, leaving me drenched despite my desperate attempt to shelter beneath the canopy of an ancient tree.

Three days had passed since I fled the pack, and somehow, I'd encountered neither rogues nor anyone sent after me. The lack of pursuit should've been comforting, but it wasn't. A gnawing guilt clawed at me as I thought of Alice. Had she survived the attack? The thought twisted my stomach, guilt mixing with the ever-present fear.

I was a criminal now, a deserter. Abandoning the pack in its moment of need was unforgivable. Even if I wanted to return, my welcome would only be the sharp edge of execution.

I sighed bitterly, shifting on the damp ground. Weak. Pathetic. That's what they'd always called me, and they weren't wrong. As an Omega, I wasn't made to fight or survive like others. Sure, we healed quickly, but that wasn't much help on an empty stomach. My legs trembled as I pushed myself upright, using the rough bark of the tree for support.

The woods were eerily silent, save for the rustling leaves. If a rogue appeared now, I'd be defenseless. I shook my head, trying to banish the creeping dread. My thoughts drifted to the strange, half-man, half-wolf creature who had saved me from those rogues days ago. His glowing red eyes still haunted my mind.

For reasons I couldn't explain, I had been following the faint pull I felt from him ever since. It was as if some invisible thread tied me to him, leading me deeper into the woods.

But who, or what, was he? His form reminded me of the old tales of cursed wolves, trapped between transformations. The thought sent a shiver through me.

A sudden crack of twigs snapped me back to the present. My heart leaped into my throat as I scanned the woods. Something. or someone was near. Panic flared, and adrenaline surged through me. I stumbled forward, breaking into a desperate run.

I could hear them now, wolves. Their movements were deliberate and calculated. They weren't rushing to catch me. They were toying with me, savoring the hunt.

My lungs burned, and my legs screamed in protest as I pushed through a thicket, thorns tearing at my skin. Ahead, a clearing came into view. A small cottage stood there, isolated and out of place.

Hope flickered. Someone had to live there. Someone who could help.

Summoning the last of my strength, I bolted toward the cottage. My vision blurred, my body on the verge of collapse. I could feel the wolves closing in. Their eyes glinted like predatory stars in the shadows behind me.

Just as I reached the door, my legs gave out, and I crumpled to the ground. My head lolled to the side, and through the haze, I saw the rogues emerge from the trees. Their glowing yellow eyes bore into me, and I braced myself for the end.

The faint creak of the cottage door opening was the last thing I heard before darkness claimed me.

***************

When I woke, the world around me felt strange and unreal. My body ached, and my head throbbed as I forced my eyes open.

You're awake." A soft, aged voice greeted me. I turned my head to see an older woman sitting nearby, her face lined with years, but her smile was warm.

I was still shaken from my near death experience. Everything was looking muffled to me as I struggled to process where I was.

"My lady, do you need anything?" the old woman asked again.

The scent peculiar to rogues passed through my nostrils, trickling my senses.

Rogues? With alarming speed, I sat up so forcefully that the old woman gasped in surprise.

"Ahh!" She held her chest.

"Where am I?" I shouted, my breathing accelerating as the memory of being chased and surrounded by rogues filled my head.

Where am I?" I croaked, my voice hoarse. "Please don't tell me Alpha Black finally caught me." Horror gripped me at the thought that those rogues might be his men, sent to take me back to the pack.

"You're safe," she assured me. "My name is Deborah, but you may call me Debby." She reached out, her gesture kind, but I recoiled instinctively.

"Safe?" I echoed, disbelief lacing my tone. The last thing I remembered was the rogues surrounding me. What had happened? The rogues had chased me, surrounded me

Calm down, my lady," Debby said gently. "The rogues will never hurt you again. My lady, master, has ensured your safety."

"Master?" The word sent a chill down my spine.

Before I could question further, a deep voice resonated from the doorway.

"You're in my territory now."

I froze.

"You're in my territory," a deep voice answered. I snapped my neck toward the owner of the voice.

"Welcome, Master," Debby bowed low to him as he entered.

My breath hitched. It was him, the same creature who had saved me days ago. Only now, in human form, he was even more terrifyingly beautifulI stood speechless, and my mouth hanged open as I gaped at him.

"You can go, Debby. Thank you for your service," he said, dismissing her.

"Yes, Master," she replied obediently, leaving us alone as she shut the door.

He was beautiful, terrifyingly so. With a strong jawline, his hair jet black, slicked from the rain, I tried peeking at him through my hair. He stood at least 6'8" with a well chiseled face and piercing brown eyes. He was. the same wolf-man who saved me from the four rogues. His menacing, tall build barely fit in the small space. He was even more handsome in his human form than as the beast.

"Did... did you save me?" I managed to stammer.

My body was reacting in the strangest way, like a young girl experiencing her first crush. Heat rose within me, and my wolf stirred, agitated at the sight of him. His presence was overwhelmingly intoxicating, as if every inch of me was attuned to him, every cell, alive with the awareness of his proximity. My heart raced faster.

He didn't respond. He just continued to look at me, observing me with a burning gaze, like someone trying to solve a puzzle. I became counciouse that only two of us were in the room.

I instinctively took a step back when he came forward. my eyes darting around for an escape route. But even if there were ten open doors, I knew there was no way I could escape this monster.

My back hit the wall. I had reached the end of the room. He towered over me, his eyes glowing red.

"Stop moving," he ordered, his voice low and commanding.

The weight of his authority crushed any defiance within me. I lowered my gaze, baring my neck in a submissive gesture I didn't fully understand.

He growled in appreciation, a sound that sent shivers down straight to my core.

He touched my face, lifting it up. His touch sent electric tingles across my skin. His rough fingers traced my face, leaving a strange sense of comfort in their wake. A shiver ran down my spine as his thumb brushed my lower lip, the simple contact sending jolts of pleasure through me.

I was mortified by my own reaction, but I couldn't help it. My body was betraying me, responding to him in a way I didn't understand. My wolf whimpered with need urging me to go closer, to feel more of his warmth. She wasn't afraid of him. Instead, she was excited, as if she had already known him for a long time.

When he reached out and touched my face, his rough fingers tracing my skin, I gasped. The sensation was electric, every nerve in my body igniting. My wolf stirred, her excitement palpable.

"You're mine," he murmured,His voice, deep and resonant like the devil's, echoed in my mind. his voice sounded like a dark promise.

Before I could comprehend his words, his lips brushed against my neck, and his teeth sank into my skin.

Pain erupted, sharp and searing, but beneath it was something else, something primal and undeniable.

I screamed as tears blurred my vision, and the world faded into black once more.
