Chapter 5 Becoming an omega

"Rejection"

"Rejection"

"Rejection" she muttered in her sleep before waking up finally.

"That was such a bad dream" she said to herself.

She had a dream where Jackson rejected her in front of everyone.

"What a weird dream" she said to herself

"We found our mate yesterday, didn't we?" She asked her wolf, but got no response.

"Rue, are you still there?" She called out again.

No response.

She felt her wolf curl in one corner, laying dejectedly and broken.

"What happened to her?"

"Rue are you okay?" She asked again but got no reply.

She was still laying on the bed and closed her eyes for a while trying to go back to sleep when she became soaked with water.

Someone had emptied an entire bucket of water on her. She was drenched from head to toe. The bed which she was lying on was also soaked with water.

She turned, looking at the person confusedly as she tried to swipe the excess water off her face.

"Why did you do that?" she asked upset and confused at her reason for dumping an entire bucket of water on her.

"Get up, you have work to do" the lady who poured her the water replied harshly.

She dumped a pile of clothes on her wet body.

"These are dirty clothes from the pack house, you have to wash them."

Rosetta's confused expression only deepened as she looked at the clothes, then at the lady.

"Miserable criminal, omega" the lady finally said before leaving the room.

"Omega"

"Omega"

These words the lady said rang in Rosetta's head. It was as if a nail had been hit on the head. Memory of the previous night's incident started registering in her mind.

"It wasn't a dream"

"Everything was true" she panicked.

It started flashing back to her. How Jackson publicly ridiculed her, proposing to another girl and demoting her status to an omega. She felt more pain that she had no one to talk to or comfort her, even her best friend had betrayed her. Growing up as an orphan, she had no family to turn to.

She had watched how omegas worked tirelessly in the pack and she never wished to be in such a position but now she was the pack's omega.

"Didn't you hear what I said earlier" the lady who came inside said to her in disgust. "You should be lucky that we even let you go scot-free even after all you did"

"Get up and start working. After washing, you'll clean the new room for the baby" she added before leaving.

"Crazy lady" Rosetta cursed under her breath when she was sure that the woman was out of earshot.

She picked up one of the clothes, it reeked badly and she dropped it on the floor in disgust.

"Oh goddess, is this my fate now?, to lose my mate and become a slave to everyone." she lamented.

Finally getting up from the wet bed, she scanned her surroundings. Since she woke up, she had been oblivious of where she was.

This wasn't her home. She had slept in the pack house. She didn't remember sleeping here. She had a hazy remembrance of what happened after the rejection. It felt like she had fainted.

"Ah" she screamed as she felt a sharp splitting headache at the corner of her head.

Taking up the heap of clothes in one hand, she stepped outside to get water. That was when she bumped into someone.

"Ouch"

"Can't you watch where you're going"

Rosetta stood up from the pile of clothes which had collapsed on her.

"Sorry" she muttered.

"It seems like you don't know me, anyways, I'm about to be the new Luna of the pack and if you're not going to respect me, I'll have to discipline you" Ella snickered.

Rosetta stood there not uttering a word.

"Did you hear me?" Ella bellowed at her.

"Yes," she replied, rolling her eyes.

"Yes what?"

"Huh"

"You would address me with honorifics" Ella reprimanded her. "Now respond properly" she commanded.

Rosetta was already hurting within. This woman was trying every means to frustrate and humiliate her.

"Yes ma'am" she finally responded.

"Come back" Ella said to her as she was about to leave.

Rosetta walked back, trying to suppress the urge to release her anger on this woman who was bossing her around.

"You must have been informed that you have to clean the room for the baby, haven't you?"

"Yes ma'am"

"Then get to it already" Ella said to her while rubbing her belly.

"You're pregnant for him?" Rosetta asked with much pain in her voice. "Why are you doing this? Who are you and why did you just come to ruin my life?" She lamented.

Ella came closer to her and said something.

"Your life has only become worse. I will make sure that I deal with you" she said with a sinister smile spread across her lips.

"Now, get to work and don't ever think of leaving. You won't be able to do so" she added and walked away.

Rosetta stood at one spot.

"Why would she come all the way just to ruin my life. I don't have a vendetta against anyone" she sighed to her wolf but got no response.

The last time her wolf was active was when they found their mate. Since last night's rejection and humiliation, Rue had curled up in a corner feeling forlorn and broken.

"Rue" she called out to her wolf. Rue only whimpered and curled back at her corner. She wasn't active like she used to be.

"He rejected us," Rue replied weakly. She felt pity for her wolf and even felt more pity for herself and her new fate.

"I have to find a way to escape from here" she told herself. She couldn't bear to keep up with the new fate assigned to her. With no one to turn to, no parents, no friends. The one best friend which she thought she had, turned her back against her. She had to help herself and the only help she could offer was by leaving this pack for good. She had to leave mystic furs pack.

She was about to enter the laundry when her eyes caught sight of Jackson. There he was standing, the man whom she loved, but right now he acted like a different person towards her. She wondered if he didn't feel the mate bond. She had known the mate bond to be so strong that the both partners felt it. But last night, it looked like the only thing which he felt for her was hatred and disgust.

For some reason, her head began to hurt and she felt a tingling sensation over her eyes. She knew what it was and tried hard to blink away the tears that were already forming.

"Jackson" Rosetta called out weakly.

Their eyes met from a distance and she searched his eyes to see if he would feel anything towards, walk towards her or hopefully apologize to her and say that last night's incident was a prank. Instead he shot her a cold stare and averted his gaze before continuing his discussion with his beta.

"What do you mean?" Jackson asked his beta.
