Chapter 7 Contractual Wife

"I am Daisy Knight, project manager in the management department of Universal Machines. Today I am here to discuss with Mr. David of Blackwood Gold about the installation project of the gold refining machinery." Daisy calmly introduced herself and the purpose of her trip.

"Daisy..." Kingsley's dark eyes lit up slightly, appreciating the name.

But Daisy felt a warm flush on her face as he uttered her name with familiarity. Her heart fluttered uncomfortably. She let out a long breath, hoping Kingsley wouldn't recognize her.

After all, the lights were dim that night five years ago, and because of the medication, he couldn't have seen her clearly. She had put on heavy makeup so he wouldn't think the woman he met in the hotel room five years ago was the same professional woman she was now, hadn't she?

"Miss Knight, have we met before?" Kingsley looked Daisy up and down.

Daisy was startled, fear gripping her.

"Mr. Blackwood, I have never lived in this city before. This is my first time coming here. Besides, how could someone of your status meet an ordinary person like me? You must be mistaken." Daisy brushed off the past and smiled slightly.

"Really?" Kingsley raised an eyebrow. "It seemed like I remembered wrongly."

Daisy stood in her place, feeling anxious, wanting to finish this conversation as quickly as possible. "If there's nothing else you need, Mr. Blackwood, then let me leave you and proceed to the meeting."

"Miss Knight, I anticipate good cooperation." Kingsley's lips curved into an undeniable smile, enhancing his already attractive face.

Daisy was slightly taken aback at that moment, but she quickly composed herself. "Director, thank you for your guidance."

As Kingsley turned and walked away with his long strides, Daisy slumped, unable to resist reaching out to clutch her chest tightly. Her back was covered in cold sweat.

The two-minute conversation with Kingsley made her feel like she had fought a fierce battle, leaving her physically and mentally exhausted.

Kingsley glanced back at Daisy, and David's playful voice came out. "Kingsley, is Miss Knight your type?"

From kindergarten days until that moment, David had never seen his friend Kingsley's eyes linger on a woman for more than three seconds. There was something about this woman that truly captivated him.

Kingsley's gaze merely brushed David's eager face. "You're overthinking." Kingsley passed by David and returned to his office.

Sitting behind the large Rosewood desk, he pulled out the bottom right drawer and retrieved two marriage certificates from it. The certificates had been in his office for over two years. He had only glanced at them two years ago and hadn't looked at them since.

Now they still looked new and bright as they did when he received them three years ago.

Kingsley opened one of the marriage certificates with his long fingers. The line of the certificate holder read Daisy Knight, and the vertical line of the partner read Kingsley Blackwood.

The woman in the picture had simple styled hair, her face was clean and beautiful, and her plain white blouse looked very elegant, it was hard to hide her best features.

The man next to her was also wearing a white shirt, his handsome face indifferent, and he seemed distant from the woman.

Indeed, this marriage picture was a fabricated product, forged. He didn't even bother to obtain the certificate himself; his friends did it for him.

At that time, Kingsley had to take a sudden trip to Russia and he needed to obtain a marriage certificate, so he had to rely on his friend to assist him through video call.

"Daisy Knight, so you're my wife whom I've never met before?" Kingsley picked up his phone and dialed a number. "Gideon, guess who I saw today."

His friend, Gideon Chester, on the other end of the line responded with a question, "who? The daughter of the Mwita family who returned from studying abroad? Did she come to bother you again?"

"My wife." Kingsley leaned back in his chair and tapped the edge of the table with one hand, but his eyes didn't leave the marriage certificate.

Gideon was stunned for a moment then realized. "Blackwood, you almost forgot to tell me about that. Did she come looking for you? It's impossible. She didn't even know she married you. And she seemed to have enough sense and self-respect, otherwise, I wouldn't have chosen her for you at that time."

It was only because he needed a marriage certificate to complete some lucrative business deals that Kingsley had to go through with the marriage charade. It would have been easy to forge a marriage certificate and put a woman who didn't exist at all, but there were things that couldn't be faked, such as the identification and existence of the woman. So Kingsley had to marry a real person. But who would be worthy of that position?

Unexpectedly, Gideon met Daisy, who was desperate at the time, having been expelled from their family, with no prospects. Gideon introduced Daisy to Kingsley, but they didn't meet face-to-face at that time. Daisy needed money and Kingsley needed a temporary wife. After three years, Kingsley's deals would be complete, and they could part ways. Daisy would be free. The only condition was to obey the contract.

Everything went smoothly, and all the procedures were handled by Gideon, so Kingsley's understanding of this wife by name was limited. He only knew her by name and the picture on the marriage certificate. At least he knew his temporary wife by name, but Daisy didn't know the person she married at all, neither by name nor by face. She only remembered Kingsley as the man she slept with for the first time and got pregnant from. That's why she feared him.

"She's a project officer at Universal Machines, and she came to discuss work today." Kingsley didn't expect to meet his ordinary wife in his company.

"How does it feel to have your wife talking to you about work?" Gideon chuckled, teasing Kingsley.

"She doesn't have the status to discuss business with." Kingsley replied arrogantly.

"Yes, however, there are only two months left until the three-year contract ends. It's better to avoid unnecessary conflicts before divorce." Gideon thought it was better to avoid trouble.

"Yes." Kingsley hung up the phone.

"Daisy Knight... Mrs. Blackwood..." Kingsley continued to ponder for a while.
