Chapter 4 .

~Aurora~

An unsettling stillness fell over the forest, erasing all signs of the previous commotion.

The light from both our eyes ceased, but I still remained in my wolf form, as did he.

His heart thudded against his chest, and I could sense the tension in his body as he tried to regulate his breaths.

Seeing the lifeless rogue bodies on the ground sent my heart to flutter.

It was such a horrible sight to behold, seeing bodies apart from heads.

As I watched the dead Rogues in fear, I sensed the Alpha's eyes piercing my skin.

I turned around, inclined my head in a gesture of courtesy, and slowly raised my eyes.

Honestly, his wolf form was breathtaking, and I felt a surge of excitement that made me want to spring into action.

The Moon Goddess surely knows how to ease someone's heart after a breakup.

She didn't just send me any of the wolves in the pack; she sent me the Alpha as a new mate.

He stepped forward, staring deep into my hazel eyes as he approached where I stood.

"Who are you?" His deep, masculine voice echoed in my ears.

Unlike Kelvin's, the Alpha's voice was so soothing to the mind, and it calmed my soul.

I wanted to touch him, to hug him, and to inhale the charismatic scent he was blessed with by the Goddess.

But I restrained myself, remembering he's the Alpha, and his authority demands respect.

He hasn't accepted me as his mate, and I have no idea if he's going to do that or not.

I'm a nobody, and he's an Alpha.

"Who are you?" He asked again, bringing me out of my reverie.

I swallowed hard and stepped forward, and as soon as I wanted to speak, I heard paws pounding on the ground.

A wolf, unremarkable in size and appearance compared to the Alpha, darted out from the woods.

The Alpha turned to the wolf, and they seemed to be communicating telepathically.

The next minute, the wolf, whom I assumed was the Alpha's Beta, looked at me and then at the lifeless rogues on the ground.

Seeing the look on his face, I was terrified that the Alpha might have told him something that got me in trouble.

I rapidly backed away, then turned and fled into the woods, leaving the Alpha and his Beta behind.

Running that fast wasn't a new thing to me.

Aside from reading minds, Kiara could also run like a flash of lightning.

A minute later, I was out of the forest, standing in the garden.

"Let's go home," I said to Kiara, shifting back into my human form.

As quick as I could, I was out of the garden.

I was lucky that he didn't recognize me, since I had kept silent and has already shifted into my wolf form when he spotted me in the heat of the battle.

I held my right hand where the mark was, thinking about what happened back there.

" Kiara?" I called as I hastened my pace into the Pack.

"What was that light?" I asked her, my heart still pounding in its cave.

' That was magic, Aurora. And you helped our Mate with it,' Kiara said, her voice bubbling with delight.

'I believe there's more to that magic than meets the eye. It never surfaced when we were still with Kelvin,' she added, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

Kiara's words struck a chord, perhaps because Kelvin wasn't my destined mate, or maybe the Moon Goddess had a greater plan in store. The magic only awakened when my Alpha mate was injured by the rogue wolves.

I suggested, "Let's ask Mom," while discreetly covering the mark with my sleeve, which still ached with a sharp, cutting pain.

'Is involving your Mom really the best plan? She's not knowledgeable about your magic. Let's uncover the truth ourselves.' Kiara proposed an alternative.

I nodded my head, wiping the sweat from my forehead.

She's right; it's better I keep it to myself for now and maybe tell her later.

As I walked through the Pack, everywhere was so silent, unlike normal days when you'll see people going about their normal activities.

Who doesn't know why they were hiding in their various homes would think the werewolves had left Blossom Pack.

The deserted path was frightening to navigate alone; the eerie silence was punctuated only by my own footsteps, as if even the birds were too afraid to fly overhead.

I hastened my step, and in a few minutes, I was home.

" Aurora!" Mom's worried voice welcomed me.

I waved my hands at her, and she left the window to open the door.

"What happened to you? Where have you been?" She held my face between her hands, meticulously examining every feature to confirm I was okay.

"I couldn't find you in the garden, and I was so worried." She threw me in for a hug, patting my back gently.

Despite my best efforts to keep it hidden, her attention was magnetically drawn to the mark on my hand.

"What happened to your hand?" She asked, bolting the wooden door in place.

"Nothing." I smiled nervously, moving to the couch.

She grabbed my hand like a jiff and lifted up my sleeve.

But astonishingly, the mark had reverted to its normal, faint appearance, just like it had always been.

I was perplexed because earlier, it was prominent and noticeable, like a glaring mark.

The numbness has worn off, and my heartbeat has returned to its regular rhythm.

She released my hand and sighed in relief before picking up a tea cup and a jug from the table.

" Aurora?" She called out my name, her voice warm, as she handed me the steaming cup of coffee, its aroma filling the air.

"Kelvin stopped by before you returned home."

The mention of Kelvin's name made me sputter and cough, coffee spilling from my lips.

I wondered what could have brought him to our house after he had already rejected me.

Could he have told Mom about the rejection?

"We discussed something important, and I see sense in what he said." A look of concern etched her face as she talked, her voice laced with anxiety.

I turned my attention to her, to hear whatever it was that Kelvin discussed with her that made her look worried.

"Living in the pack is so dangerous now, Aurora. You already saw what happened today, and Kelvin also saw it..." She went on.

"Kelvin suggested we send you to the Pack house, where you'll be safe."
