Chapter 7 The shadow within

Lena stood frozen, her reflection's words echoing in her mind like a mantra of doom. She knew she had to face the darkness within, but she was afraid of what she might find. Afraid of what she might become. The thought sent a shiver down her spine, like a cold wind blowing through her very soul.

Slowly, she raised her hands, and her reflection raised its hands too. Their fingers touched, and Lena felt a surge of energy run through her body, like a river of fire flowing through her veins. She was flooded with visions of her ancestors, their secrets and lies, their ancient powers and forbidden knowledge. The images flashed before her eyes like a macabre dance, each one revealing a piece of the puzzle that was her family's dark legacy.

She saw her great-grandmother, a powerful witch who had made a pact with a dark entity, trading her soul for power and prestige. She saw her grandmother, who had tried to undo the damage but only made it worse, her attempts at redemption mere whispers in the wind. And she saw her mother, who had tried to hide the truth but ultimately succumbed to the darkness, her final moments a desperate cry for help that went unheeded.

Lena realized that she was the last in a line of women who had been cursed by their own ambition.
