Chapter 4 Rival

Evelyn grumbled prettily in the morning, which was supposed to make her laugh. No, this was difficult. The gloomy-looking morning weather made her fret about having to struggle with time so as not to get stuck in London traffic. But, imagining it all, she had to sigh strongly because she hated traffic the most.

Evelyn wanted so badly to lay down on her soft bed and enjoy a romantic movie all day. However, the alarm and a call from her secretary forced her to get up and start her routine.

"What time is the meeting with Sun TV?" shouted Evelyn in response to the call from the cell phone loudspeaker she had deliberately set. By the way, she was in the shower at the moment.

"One o'clock in the afternoon. They still insist on extending the contract with us this time," replied Evelyn's beautiful secretary, Chloe.

The secretary, who doubles as her personal assistant as well."What's the reason?" asked Evelyn. Her hands were busy applying moisturizing cream all over her body. Chloe was mumbling on the other side. The sound of paper and a coffee machine greeted Evelyn's sense of hearing until she shook her head. Her secretary was so diligent, she guessed she must be in the office doing her job by now.

"Because the products we use are favored by the artists. They can't buy it because the product is still exclusive to our brand. Yes, that's why they asked for the partnership to be extended," Chloe replied, stammering as she had to read the reasons stated in last week's request letter.

"Alright, let's have a meeting later, and don't forget to note down some of the points we discussed during the first meeting," Evelyn instructed, which Chloe nodded at from the other end. Evelyn hung up the call and went back to her room. She looked at herself in the mirror and did not forget to apply natural makeup.

Evelyn glanced at the wall clock in her room, which showed eight in the morning. She sighed softly. It looked like she would be a little late considering her car had just entered the garage yesterday and today her best friend, who lived not far from her house, was on vacation. She was forced to opt for an online taxi instead.

An hour and a half later, an online taxi arrived. Evelyn rushed up and told the driver her destination. Evelyn didn't realize that the person next to her, aka the taxi driver, was smiling and giggling at her. Evelyn frowned and then turned to the taxi driver, who was giggling.

"You?" Evelyn pointed at the figure next to her. Her lips parted, and her eyes widened in disbelief. The driver just giggled and started the car engine. Evelyn blinked her eyes until she finally blurted out that she recognized the driver.

"The Galaxy building, right?" the driver asked. Evelyn nodded. Her eyes moved restlessly. She was awkward but forced herself to be normal because she did not want to look strange in the eyes of this driver who was laughing at her. "Your house is there? Wow, what a surprise. I don't have to bother finding out anymore."

"Why do you want to know my home address? Do you want to rob me?" snapped Evelyn.

The driver turned to laugh sweetly and then answered Evelyn's question casually, "Yes, I want to rob. Robbing the owner's heart, to be precise." He sounded strange, and it made Evelyn shudder.

"You're a taxi driver? Then you're lying, right?" Evelyn started the conversation after a minute of silence. Evelyn glanced out of the corner of her eye and sneered at the driver's behavior, which looked like a masher.

"No, I'm really an architect; the taxi driver is just a prankster because I can walk to work," he replied. Evelyn frowned. One hand shook her side hair and put an earpod into her ear as one of her employees called.

"Um, ignored," the driver muttered. Evelyn heard the muttering and turned her head with her eyes wide and her eyebrows raised. The driver pretended not to see and only focused on the road in front of him.

"Ok, have you tidied up? Don't forget, please offer the most special price because he is a special guest." Evelyn's voice was giving orders to her employees while taking notes on her tablet phone lying on her thigh.

Having finished with her business, Evelyn seemed eager to take revenge on the driver. Just as she grabbed the driver's ear, the car suddenly braked, and accidentally Evelyn's face was in front of the driver's face with a look that looked awkward and embarrassed.

Five seconds later, they were in such a state until a red tinge broke out on Evelyn's beautiful face. She leaned back and pretended to fix her hair. The driver, who was equally awkward, suddenly felt his chest pounding. He felt his heart, and he rubbed it slowly.

"There was a cat out front. That's why I braked suddenly," the driver said reasonably. Evelyn nodded. She was embarrassed that she had almost kissed the man next to her on the lips.

"S-sorry." Evelyn looked down. She hit her head lightly because she felt that the incident had shown her stupid side. She lifted her head slightly and glanced at the man.

"I should apologize for braking the vehicle too hard. You were okay earlier, right? Any injuries?" Evelyn shook her head in response to the driver's questions. She raised her head and then turned her head to meet the driver's gaze.

"Kevin, pretend everything never happened. I'm sorry, I meant to pluck your ear," she apologized. Kevin, the driver, nodded his understanding but still felt bad because he must have intentionally braked his vehicle suddenly.

"No problem," Kevin said after answering Evelyn's request. "But..." Kevin paused his sentence and turned quickly to Evelyn, who was waiting for his next sentence.

"But what?" asked Evelyn curiously.

"But my heart is beating fast because your face is in front of my eyes," he teased. Evelyn reddened her cheeks again. She was embarrassed because she had imagined her face facing Kevin earlier.

"Are you uncomfortable?" asked Evelyn. Kevin shook his head.

"I'm actually very happy," he replied humorously. Evelyn smiled, one hand lightly hitting Kevin's arm, and hurriedly looked at the window next to him, pretending to see the atmosphere outside the vehicle. The car started running again, and soon they reached their destination. Evelyn unbuckled her seat belt and handed Kevin the taxi fee, but he immediately refused.

"Why do you refuse money from me so often?" annoyed Evelyn, who felt her money was not appreciated by Kevin because he repeatedly refused to give her money.

"Reply with a memorable lunch this afternoon. I called you half an hour before lunch, and I happen to have work nearby," Kevin invited. This would be the second time he had lunch with Evelyn.

The long wait for Evelyn's answer made him impatient, and he confirmed it again. "Can I, or can't I?" asked Kevin in a tone that begged for an answer from Evelyn.Evelyn smiled awkwardly, then nodded slowly. Incidentally, she had no lunch plans today.

"Don't forget to call me later. Thank you so much for the ride. Have a good day." Evelyn looked down and got out of the car slowly while waving her hand. Kevin waved back until the car disappeared from sight.

As Evelyn turned around, right behind her was someone standing and looking at her with a big smile and sparkling eyes. The person she had thrown away from her mind appeared in front of her. Evelyn ignored her; she walked to the side, but her hand was pulled by the figure.

"I missed you, Evelyn," he said. The figure pulled Evelyn's hand again until she fell into the figure's arms.

"Let go of me. We're not a couple anymore," Evelyn pleaded while brushing off the arm of Damian, the figure who had stood up and hugged her. Evelyn ran into the office lobby, leaving Damian still standing there. She did not want to be dissolved in the cradle of the past, and she should avoid it because everything would no longer be the same.
