"Evelyn. Does Damian know her?" muttered Kevin.
He rubbed his hand lightly on his chin as he imagined Evelyn's face again. "If I could get to know her better, would she want to?" he concluded. Kevin closed his eyes and started his sleep, which was disturbed by his strange dream.
It looks like fortune has come again to Kevin, who is looking forward to the next meeting with the idol. Who else, if not Evelyn? The woman who made him stunned froze for a while just by hearing her stern voice.
To be precise, he fell in love with Evelyn's stubbornness and haughtiness.
Just in time for lunch, when London was at its busiest, appeared the figure who had soothed Kevin's heart in the past. Nestled in the corner of a famous café in central London, their eyes met again for the second time. Evelyn and Kevin. Charming round eyes with seductive curved corners and a brief, economical smile drove Kevin crazy for the umpteenth time.
"Evelyn? Right, her name is Evelyn?" Kevin said this while pointing at the flat, unmoving face in front of him. Evelyn nodded. She continued to casually sip her favorite latte without budging an inch. Kevin didn't feel awkward at all. He recklessly sat in front of Evelyn with a silly smile. "Can I join you?" he asked again.
Evelyn raised her head to look at Kevin, who was still smiling at her. "Yes. Please." Evelyn nodded. Kevin sat down and immediately ordered the food he wanted. While waiting for the order, his eyes could not escape from the food and drinks that Evelyn was eating.
"Carbonara and latte."
"Like the carbonara?" asked Kevin, starting the conversation again. Evelyn stopped chewing and replied, "Not really; I just happened to be in the mood for carbonara."
"Rude as usual."
Finally, Kevin's food arrived. Kevin was in a hurry to eat his meal because he saw his lady love getting ready to pack her bag and looking for her purse in the small bag she was carrying. Kevin blocked Evelyn's hand and stopped her movement. Evelyn glared. She pushed Kevin's hand away and put it next to hers. "Excuse me? Why is your hand blocking mine?"
Kevin was suddenly awkward. He scratched the back of his head, and soon his teeth popped out, accompanied by Kevin's trademark smile. "I'll pay."
Kevin quickly stood up and walked to the counter. As he spoke, his hand occasionally went to Evelyn's table, and the cashier nodded as if she understood what he was talking about. Not long after, Kevin returned to the table and continued his meal, which seemed to be running out. Evelyn frowned, feeling strange about what the man she had only met twice was doing.
"How much do I have to pay?" Evelyn snapped. Kevin shook his head. Smiling slowly, he pulled something out of his wallet. A rectangular piece of paper shaped like a card. Evelyn frowned again. She took one business card and read it. Evelyn muttered, under her breath, Kevin's full name. "Kevin Fancher, business consultant. Want to propose a partnership? But you seem to have the wrong target."
Kevin laughed. He hastily gulped down the lemon tea and swallowed all the food he had chewed. "I have a marketing face. I'm giving you this business card so you can know who I am and what I do." Kevin said.
Evelyn pressed her lips together, thinking for a moment what Kevin meant by wanting to be recognized by her. "Don't be so bitchy. Smile; it's prettier." Kevin pulled the edges of Evelyn's lips up a few centimeters.
Evelyn brushed off Kevin's hand and put the business card in her wallet.
"How much food did I eat?" asked Evelyn once again. Kevin shook his head again. "Don't make me angry," threatened Evelyn. Kevin laughed at the threat, which didn't sound scary but instead adorable. "No need to laugh."
"There is no need to get paid. How about we get to know each other better?" said Kevin as he extended his hand, asking for the beautiful woman's handshake.
Evelyn returned Kevin's handshake and mentioned her full name and profession. "Evelyn Cruz. Just call me Evelyn, a beauty consultant and also th owner of one of the famous beauty courses in London," said Evelyn, bragging.
Kevin nodded and then mentioned his data, the same as Evelyn earlier. "Kevin Fancher. Just call me Kevin or Kev, a business consultant who owns one of the famous workshops in Wembley just like you." Kevin ended his introduction and removed his handshake.
After exchanging greetings and business cards, Evelyn said goodbye. Her busy schedule forced her to resume her routine, especially if not as a consultant. Not wanting to lose track again, Kevin took the initiative to take Evelyn to her workplace. Evelyn refused, but Kevin still forced her.
It's not Kevin's name if he just gives up. With his ability to lobby many businessmen, he also practiced it on Evelyn.
"Well, it looks like it's getting dark," Kevin joked. Soraya stood next to him, right in front of the mall lobby door. Her hand repeatedly opened her cell phone, looking for an online taxi booking application. Repeatedly, she tried to order, but she was also rejected. Evelyn was getting restless. The meeting will start in an hour, but she has yet to leave the mall, which is located quite far from her office.
"If you don't mind, I can take you to your destination," Kevin said again. Now he was bravely offering to help Evelyn. He thought this was the right time to get to know his future love interest.
Evelyn turned her head. She thought for a moment but finally nodded. Kevin, who had guessed that his invitation would be accepted, quickly pulled Evelyn's hand towards the car park in the basement of the mall. It didn't take long; he invited Evelyn to get in while he walked to the back of the car to put the equipment he had brought into the trunk.
"You know the Galaxy Building?" asked Evelyn. Kevin, who was busy putting on his seat belt, looked over and nodded. Soraya breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness."
"You have an office there?" asked Kevin. His hands turned the steering wheel, and soon the car was slowly driving out of the parking lot.
Evelyn nodded and said, "Yes. You know, right?"
"I know. My client works there," Kevin replied casually.
Evelyn didn't know what kind of conversation she should have with Kevin. It was a little awkward to ask about personal things, especially those concerning lovers or life friends. More precisely, love life. The quiet atmosphere enveloped both Kevin and Evelyn in their respective reveries. Kevin's left hand felt the dashboard, looking for the music player button. One song that he often played when accompanying the trip accidentally played and made the two of them turn their heads to each other.
"You like old songs?" Evelyn slightly squealed, asking Kevin, and he just nodded with a smile. "Just like my late mom."
Kevin turned his head again. He caught a glimpse of Evelyn's lips, which curled into a smile, and then returned flat as usual. Kevin stuck out his hand, looking for a tissue box, because he was sure that Evelyn would shed her tears this time. "Sorry, I made you cry."
"You didn't. I'm the one who's whiny."
Kevin racked his brain for something appropriate to ask Evelyn. It felt strange to just be silent with each other. Suddenly, Isabel popped into his head. "Are you Isabel's friend or Damian's?"
Isabel was a little surprised, but quickly shook it off. She answered carefully, "I'm Damian's friend. So what?" Evelyn's question made Kevin shake his head. He wondered if this was bothering him.
"No, it's not. Just asking because if you're Isabel's friend, we should have met and known each other," Kevin replied.
"Are you Isabel's friend?" Kevin nodded. "Ooww...."
"I heard that Damian has an ex-girlfriend, and she told him to marry Isabel. Is that true?" Kevin asked curiously. Evelyn was a little surprised. This story should not have gotten out anywhere, and someone must have spread it because only she and Isabel's family knew everything.
"I don't even know. Where did you find out?" Evelyn asked back.
"Isabel's brother. If I'm not mistaken, her distant cousin," Damian replied. Evelyn was surprised again. This time, there was a look of fear behind her eyes that slightly avoided Kevin.
"Who did he tell you about?" Evelyn asked again to make sure. If Kevin had said cousin, it would have been Anna talking to him.
"No. Isabel immediately smothered her mouth. If I knew her, I would have cursed her out," he said passionately. Evelyn frowned, turned her head, and waited for Kevin's additional answer. "Because he's stupid. Letting go of the person she loves for someone else."
Kevin's answer jolted Evelyn's heart. How could this stranger, who didn't know her, speak the truth and take her side, even though his tone was a little harsh? He is a fool, Evelyn thought. Indeed, she was stupid for giving Damian up for someone else. But did anyone else know the reason why she acted the way she did?
There was silence again. The song stopped. Right at the crossroads, Kevin's car turned into the courtyard of the Galaxy building. "Ah, here we are. Welcome back to work," Kevin said. Soraya slowly unbuckled her seatbelt and straightened her slightly revealing shirt.
Evelyn looked down and said, "Thank you. Next time, I'll treat you to a meal. Do you mind if I invite you?"
Kevin nodded and replied, "Of course not. I'd be happy to come."
Evelyn opened the car door and closed it again. Soon the car started to move, and from inside the car, Kevin could be seen waving his hand with a smile at Evelyn, and she waved back.
Evelyn was still standing in front of the entrance with her eyes looking up at the sky, where the clouds were slowly circling the sky. There was a curved corner there that she could see with her naked eye. A beautiful and exquisite arch that makes anyone's heart marvel. The colorful arch made Evelyn's eyes blessed.
"Am I stupid?"
