Chapter 5 Infiltrated - Part 2

Being so close, she noticed his jaw clench and saw a vein pulse in his throat, but Roman said nothing. Sel knew him well, though he didn't know it at that moment. She knew Roman would never consider Anthony his brother; their relationship was terrible, and she knew that would hit his pride.

"But I want to see how far your little show goes," she thought, putting on an innocent look and leaning on him.

"I'm sure he'll be found soon; these kidnappers would want something," he replied, releasing Sel's waist and sighing. "But we came just to let you know. My grandfather said you needed to be informed... Are you and Anthony very close?"

Sel raised her clear eyes and looked at him for a moment, thinking about how to answer that question. No, she and Anthony were definitely not close; they barely spoke. She just wasn't sure if telling him that was the best answer.

As she was lost in thought, Roman watched her. His black eyes traveled slowly over her as he admired the beautiful figure in front of him. She was stunning, a breathtaking woman, he couldn't deny. She had a small nose, rosy well-shaped lips, clear skin dotted with beautiful freckles, and her hair looked like fire, which would drive any man mad, including him.

"But I'm not going to go crazy over her forever...," he thought, sighing heavily.

He knew himself well enough to understand that this was doomed to fail, but he would sacrifice some areas of his life for his goal; he was capable of that, or at least he believed he was.

"Oh, no, we hardly talk," she finally answered, deciding not to lie. "But it's shocking to know he was kidnapped... Poor guy."

Selena continued her act, pretending to be a good girl while they were there. The Campbell family was hiding something; she was sure their death was their fault, so to find out what happened, she needed to play along.

"I understand... Well, I hope everything gets resolved soon; my grandfather is very shaken," Roman continued, nodding towards Henry.

George was consoling the old man while trying to convince him that his grandson would be found soon. At that moment, Henry lifted his face and smiled slightly, standing up and walking over to Selena, holding her hands and squeezing them gently.

"Sel, would you mind staying with me at the mansion until Anthony is found?" the old man asked before she could say anything. "I'm very upset, and Roman is busy with the company all day. I'll feel very lonely and worried. If George doesn't mind, I'd like you to stay with me."

That was new... Very new.

Of course, that day, before his death, Selena had moved into the Campbell house, but under the pretense of a scheduled wedding, as Roman had proposed that afternoon. But he didn't seem willing to make the proposal at that moment. Why? And Henry, did he know about his son's intentions? Sel couldn't say, but knew that staying at the Campbell house would be advantageous for discovering what she needed.

So, she looked up at the tearful old man in front of her, carefully squeezing his hands and smiling slightly:

"If it helps you, I don't mind, Mr. Campbell!"

"Thank you so much, you're such a sweet girl!" Henry said, while George gave him two pats on the shoulders as if comforting him.

"See? I told you she would agree," George said, smiling at his friend and then stepping away with him, leaving Selena and Roman alone again.

"Are you sure this won't be a problem for you?" he asked, tilting his head to the side. "If it is, you don't have to go..."

"Don't worry about me," she said, with a gentle smile. "It will be perfect to be able to help in this difficult time."

"Thank you very much then! I'll send someone to pick you up tomorrow, alright?"

"Alright!"
