Chapter 5

For some reason, the maid could not find the source of the cold draft. She could only shiver and shrink her neck.

Sarah sighed and said, "Luke, Jessica's not very bright and often causes trouble. I've never blamed her. This time, the maid probably couldn't take it anymore and acted on her own. Please don't think badly of me."

Luke's eyes darkened as he stared at the woman in front of him. He remained silent, and Sarah dared not move.

Jessica's eyes turned cold. She ran over and grabbed the hem of Luke's clothes.

"Woo woo, I'm so scared, Luke. Please take me away quickly!"

This was a rare opportunity. She had to seize it and stop him from leaving.

Luke looked down. At this moment, Jessica looked disheveled and genuinely distressed. She clung to him like a lifeline.

But his eyes remained cold and devoid of warmth.

"I really need you to come with me."

With that, Luke took Sarah away in front of her furious eyes.

It wasn't until they arrived at the old mansion that Jessica realized Luke had brought her to see Grandpa Thompson

At that moment, Grandpa Thompson was napping. The two of them went upstairs first.

The private doctor hurried in.

Luke handed Jessica a cup of hot tea and said in a low voice, "Where does it hurt? Show him."

With a pained expression, Jessica pointed to her head, arms, waist, and thighs.

"Here, here, here, here, and here. It hurts!"

Luke raised an eyebrow and signaled to the doctor.

The doctor approached respectfully and said, "Miss Jessica, I'll take a look. Please don't move."

"Okay," she replied obediently.

After several examinations, it was evident that her knees were more swollen, and there was a minor injury on her thigh.

"Miss Jessica, you need to wear a skirt that covers more. Let me examine it properly."

There was no gender difference when it came to doctors and patients.

But when Luke heard this, his expression darkened. He glanced at Jessica's exposed calf.

Her legs were fair and smooth, almost glowing.

A glint flashed in his eyes. He stood up and walked over.

"Leave us," he ordered the doctor.

The doctor quickly stepped back. "Of course, Mr. Hamilton."

Soon, the room was empty save for Jessica and Luke.

Jessica bit her finger and looked confused.

"Luke, what's wrong?" She tilted her head innocently.

Luke's voice was low and husky. He bent down and squatted.

"I'll apply the medicine for you."

"Hehe, that's great," she said sweetly.

Luke's tall figure bent in front of her. Even in this position, he couldn't conceal his cold, noble aura.

Jessica still looked naive as he dabbed her wound with a cotton ball.

"It hurts!" she exclaimed.

Her eyelashes fluttered, and there was a hint of moisture in her eyes.

Luke's hand paused, and he looked up to see her trying to suppress her sadness.

"Endure it."

"I will..." Jessica shrugged, looking pitiful.

Luke tugged at the hem of her skirt and lifted it slightly.

At such close proximity, he caught a whiff of the faint scent of soap on her skin.

It was subtle, pleasant, and oddly enticing...

Jessica was unaware of his thoughts and looked up at him innocently.

She saw his handsome profile and sharp brow under his black hair.

"Luke, can you not abandon me?" she asked softly.

Jessica knew well that Luke hadn't agreed to their engagement. She had to keep up the pretense of being pitiful to win his sympathy.

Luke pursed his lips tightly and remained silent.

He was focused on treating her minor injury.

However, as his gaze moved, he noticed a faint scar on her thigh.

His expression froze. Gently, he grasped her ankle and pulled it up.

Jessica was taken aback and about to protest.
