Ten million pesos for my father's surgery, in exchange for me living here in his condo with him.
"If I agree to this, what are the conditions? Are there any?" I asked again. He pretended to think, which suddenly made my heart race.
"It's simple, Eullah. You'll do whatever I want and whatever I say. I don't accept NO as an answer. I'm sure you're already aware of that, right? And the last..." he paused, making me hold my breath as I waited for what he would say next.
I swallowed hard when I saw his sharp gaze, as if I had done something wrong.
"The last is... I'll tell you after you accept my proposal. No pressure, Ms. Deviente. I'll give you three days to think about it," he said. I nodded slowly at his words. He stood up from his seat and walked toward his room.
Just as he was about to open the door, he turned back to me.
"A piece of advice, Ms. Deviente: time is gold. So if you don't want to lose your father, make your decision faster and wiser. I only make my offer once. If you decline it, then I can't do anything about it. But always remember, it's your loss, not mine," he added, which immediately made me think.
He has a point, but why, out of all the proposals he could offer, did he choose this one? What could he possibly gain from a mere student like me?
What? Does he want me to be a school girl? If so, I could also clean the entire house.
But what if he wants me to be a s*x slave? Or worse, a mistress? But it probably wouldn't go that far, considering I haven't heard of him having a wife-unless he's hiding it because that's what rich people like him are good at, right? Hiding things.
"Wait for me here. I'll drive you home. I just need to get my keys," he said, breaking my negative thoughts about him.
"N-no need, Gov. I can go home by myself, and I've already troubled you enough. Thank you," I replied, scratching my head out of embarrassment. It's true; he's not obligated to help me, so it would be embarrassing if he insisted on driving me home. It's enough that he let me sleep and eat here earlier.
He crossed his arms and shook his head. "It seems like you've already forgotten what I just said earlier, Ms. Deviente. I don't accept NO as an answer, right? And since I'm your boss and the one who brought you here, it means you're my responsibility. So, enough with your excuses, and wait for me here
"W-why did y-you do that?" I stammered.
He grinned evilly, "It's none of your business. Now, get out of my car while I can still control myself from kissing you." I quickly got out of the car as he had threatened.
I didn't want to get assaulted; I'm too young and have too many dreams ahead of me.
Without looking back, I hurried into my apartment and went straight to my room. I didn't even bother picking up the things I had dropped on the floor as soon as I got inside. I immediately lay down on my small bed and stared at the ceiling.
The scene of Governor staring at me and kissing my forehead kept replaying in my mind.
I tossed and turned in bed, hoping it would help me forget everything that happened in the car. But instead, I found myself thinking about our conversation in his condo, and this made me sit up abruptly. I really can't handle this anymore!
"Why did so many things have to happen to me today?!" I mentally screamed.
It's been two days since Gov and I talked about the proposal he offered me, and today, I've been pacing back and forth in my room, holding the calling card he gave me.
My father urgently needs surgery because, with each passing day, the tumor in his brain is growing. But the money I have now isn't even half of what we need for the operation. I can't think of any other way, and Governor Vergara is the only solution I can see to my problem.
Whatever happens, happens.
I sat down on my bed and took a deep breath before dialing Governor Vergara's number, my hands trembling.
"Who the f**k is this?!" he immediately answered, sounding annoyed. Did I interrupt his sleep?
I coughed.
"I-it's m-me," I stammered in a low voice.
"Ohh, Ms. Deviente," he said, and though I couldn't see him, I could sense the playful smile in his tone. "I thought you'd forgotten about my offer. So, have you made up your mind?"
"Y-yes. Let's meet tomorrow afternoon after my class. Just send me the place where you want us to talk." I didn't wait for his response and quickly ended the call. Rude or not, I didn't care.
The next day, I woke up early, took a shower, and went to the University. At 2 p.m., while I was leaving the campus gate, I received a text from Gov.
"I'll fetch you there at your University. I'm on my way now. Just wait for me outside." - Gov
As he said, I waited outside the gate, and not long after, he arrived.
During the ride, neither of us spoke until we arrived at... a condo? His condo.
"Why here?" I asked as we got out of his car. Without looking back, he answered as he started walking, "You said I could choose the place. This is it. We'll talk here. This is where I want to be." I just rolled my eyes and followed him.
When we entered the elevator, he pressed the button for the 20th floor, where he was staying.
"Have a seat," he invited as we entered his condo. He then went to the kitchen to get some water.
"So, what's your decision?" he asked immediately after finishing his drink.
I took a deep breath before answering him. "I-I accept your proposal, in exchange for you paying for my father's surgery."
He set down his glass and approached me as I sat on the sofa. He slowly knelt to match my height.
He smiled sweetly, a smile that melted my resolve, while nodding, "That's the best decision you've made, Ms. Deviente. I can assure you that your father's operation will happen as soon as possible." I smiled weakly and nodded in return, thanking him.
"C-can I know the last condition now?" I couldn't help but stammer because of his intense gaze, which made my heart race even faster.
Why does he look at me like that? It makes my body feel weak.
I froze when his hand touched my cheek, and my heart raced even more when he leaned closer, his warm yet fragrant breath brushing against my ear.
"You're not allowed to be courted because, starting today... You are mine. And I don't want to share what's mine. And that's you, my Eullah." His words sent shivers down my spine, and I felt a tickling sensation throughout my body.
He stood up while I remained seated on the sofa, "Get up. We're going to your place to pack all your things. I want you to move here, right now." His authoritative tone snapped me back to reality.
"Right away?!" I exclaimed.
"I don't like wasting time, Eullah," he said as he turned to leave the room, and I quickly followed him.
We were on our way to my apartment, with only music filling the silence inside the car until we reached the gate of my apartment.
"I'll wait for you here, so make it fast." I glared at him in response before getting out of his car and slamming the door.
Does he think he's lucky? Does he think packing is easy? Damn it! He could have waited, right? Can't he be patient? If I weren't smart, I'd think he liked me. Tsk!
I quickly finished packing but intentionally stayed in my room longer because I wanted to see Governor Vergara get annoyed. After an hour and a half, I finally had to come out because of his loud honking outside. I didn't get to say goodbye to Nay Linda because she wasn't around. I heard she went back to her province for a vacation.
As soon as I got into the car, I slammed the door shut and shot a glare at Governor Vergara, who was also glaring at me.
"Why the hell did it take you so long inside?!" he asked calmly but firmly.
I glared back at him and faked a smile, "Sorry, Governor Ambross Zachary Vergara. I fell asleep while packing." I lied, rolling my eyes, knowing he noticed.
He smirked. "Liar." Then he started the engine and maneuvered the car.
I tsked, "Whatever."
"You made me wait for more than an hour. I'll make sure you pay for this." I didn't even dare to speak or talk back. Instead, I just rolled my eyes and pretended to sleep until we reached his condo.
"Where's my room?" I asked immediately.
He mischievously smiled and pointed to his room, making my heart thump in nervousness. I gulped as he slowly opened the door and entered the room with my luggage.
"You can start transferring your clothes to the cabinet. I'll just prepare our dinner." I nodded in response and began arranging my clothes as he left me alone in the room.
