Chapter 5
After returning from the training grounds, Tonya informed me that my mother had received news that someone was planning to impeach me soon.
As the crown prince, I attended court every day. I had always been adept at managing state affairs. Over the years, I had improved water management, provided disaster relief, and punished corrupt officials, earning the respect of the common people. However, some ministers disapproved of me because I refused to accept bribes or engage in favoritism.
I chuckled coldly. "If they want to impeach me, let them try. Father would never remove me from my position."
After all, I was the only prince in the royal household.
The next day, as expected, a minister spoke out against me during the court session. He accused me of indulging in pleasures, associating daily with the sons of the prime minister and the general, and being uneducated. He even suggested that at seventeen, I should have been married by now and insinuated that I might be a eunuch, urging my father to investigate thoroughly.
His words immediately alarmed my father. Raising a son to be the heir to the throne, only to find out he might be a eunuch, would be a disgrace to the entire kingdom.
I maintained a faint smile on my face. Spending time with Landen had taught me to hide my emotions. "Father, I have already started looking for a suitable bride."
My father sighed in relief. "I knew it, Scarlett must be interested in women."
But before he could finish his sentence, the old minister spoke again. "Neither Landen nor Phil have married yet. Who knows if they have an improper relationship with the crown prince? I urge Your Majesty to investigate thoroughly!"
His words not only made my father's expression turn grim but also that of Prime Minister Yates and General Harper.
My father frowned. "Watch your words, minister. Without evidence, how dare you make such wild accusations?"
The old minister knelt, ready to continue his argument. But I quickly stepped forward and kicked him down!
Landen taught me to hide my emotions, but Phil taught me to assert myself!
"Ah-" The scene became chaotic. The old minister cried out in pain, rolling several times until he stopped at General Harper's feet. General Harper looked down at him, snorted coldly, and then looked up as if nothing had happened. I noticed that he had secretly kicked the old minister when no one was watching.
"Your Majesty, the crown prince has gone mad! He assaulted a minister in court!" The old minister was helped up by two other ministers who couldn't bear to watch any longer. He immediately knelt and began to cry out, "Your Majesty, I beg you to punish the crown prince!"
My father frowned deeply. Despite his age and clouded eyes, they still gleamed with sharpness.
I walked step by step towards the old minister. "Kieran, a few days ago, you sent me gifts, hoping to recommend your son for an official position. I refused, and now you slander me?"
I smirked, looking into his now slightly panicked eyes. "Let me tell you, whether now or when I become king, your useless son will never hold an official position."
Lowering my voice so only the two of us could hear, I coldly added, "If you dare, get my father to remove me from the throne. Otherwise, just you wait!"
