Chapter 4 Maybe we need a doctor.

Jayce, having enjoyed the show, was still displeased. Back inside, he removed his shirt, revealing blood seeping from his wound. Nathan quickly fetched the first aid kit, rebandaging the wound. Only five days old, it had barely healed and now reopened. Worried, Nathan suggested, "Maybe we need a doctor. Coming here early was a mistake. You should have rested longer!"

Jayce paid no attention, examining the newly bandaged wound before putting his shirt back on. He said in a deep voice, "Let's not be too cautious now that we're here. Occasionally going out is fine. It's rare to get a long break. I heard there's a casino around here!" His intentions were unclear to everyone, leading them to exchange puzzled glances. Jayce, unprecedentedly unchallenged, left them bewildered.

Tumessa's shops remained closed on the second day of the new year. Everything seemed calm, with the casino remaining the liveliest spot. The owner, unaware of the exact events of the previous night, was heartbroken over her son and scolded Evelyn, "How could you run into trouble on such a short walk? I pay you well enough. If you struggle with small tasks, many individuals will be job hunting after the Lunar New Year."

The owner found an excuse not to pay the previously agreed bonus. Seeing Evelyn had no objections, she felt satisfied, but didn't smile for long.

Tumessa's only open shop had attracted over a dozen troublemakers. Norman and his men came to negotiate, but the rival service company didn't back down, wielding iron rods, ready for a brawl at any disagreement. The owner cried out in distress, watching the rods swing dangerously close to her face, terrified out of her wits. The scene quickly escalated to chaos, with Evelyn calmly moving to the counter, unlocking it to take out all the cash and some records. She glanced at the trashed lobby before heading straight to the kitchen's back door to avoid the danger.

She had left right before the fight reached the counter. Iron rods shattered the wooden counter, scattering coins everywhere. The owner, snapping back to reality, felt her heart tremble with sorrow.

Upstairs, a window of a private room opened, overlooking the chaos below. The leisurely afternoon of tea and chess was interrupted. Nathan leaned against the window, chuckling, "Interesting. That girl isn't stupid; she knows to prioritize money over her life!"

"No."

Nathan was puzzled, glancing back at Jayce, who said nothing more, taking a small sip of tea and frowning, clearly unused to the cheap brew.

The fight finally ended, but no one dared call the police. The casino suffered significant damage. The owner had no hope of compensation, feeling utterly defeated after just one day, beset by dizziness and headaches. Seeing the stack of cash Evelyn presented, she regained some strength.

By evening, the owner's daughter- and son-in-law had rushed over. Standing amidst the casino's wreckage, Aliva, flushed with anger, demanded to call the police, "This is outrageous! I refuse to believe we can't punish these troublemakers!" She pointed at her husband, shouting, "Don't you have friends at the police station? Get them to arrest these people tomorrow!"

Aliva's husband frowned. "Can we arrest dozens of people? Doing so will cause more seeking revenge the following day. How many lives do you think your mother has?"

After a heated argument, everyone was exhausted. Aliva waved her hand. "Tomorrow, get someone to assess the damage and replace the furniture. The losses aren't too severe. The important thing is health!" She looked at Evelyn. "Evelyn, you can't leave the hotel. Monitor things. If anything happens to my mother, call me immediately!"

Evelyn nodded, exchanging a few words with them before cleaning up. She planned to take a plastic bucket upstairs to the private room. She paused, remembering the dusty chess room that no one ever visited, feeling curious but not thinking much of it.

Norman, with a bandaged arm and a bruised face, didn't forget to visit the old house to express concern and apologize again. He felt he had handled the situation well, quickly delivering a heavy blow to the rival, ensuring they wouldn't dare return. He intended to boast but was surprised when Jayce said, "The food you brought last time was good. Have her continued."

Overjoyed, Norman hurried back to find Evelyn. Nathan, surprised, heard Jayce add, "Monitor that rival service company. This isn't over yet."

Evelyn, now dubbed the "personal chef," frowned slightly, her expression both endearing and frustrating. Norman, feeling guilty and sympathetic, recalled the recent danger she faced and knew he hadn't properly compensated for her. Yet he was now asking her to work hard for him. He promised, "I'll pay you extra. Just cook a few meals daily, and the owner won't nag."

Evelyn sighed, "Liam, it's not that I don't want to help. Everyone wants to earn money. But with the casino in this state, I can't manage everything."

Norman patted his chest, promising to handle the miscellaneous tasks, freeing Evelyn from the dust. Cooking a few simple meals wouldn't take much time, so she agreed with a smile. The next day, however, Norman called to say, "I'm busy and can't come. Please bring the food to the old house and ring the bell."

Norman hung up, shouting in frustration and messing up his hair, feeling like he was selling out for personal gain. Yet he couldn't pass up this rare opportunity. So, when Nathan later told him, "Next time, have the girl bring the food," Norman agreed absentmindedly.

Evelyn looked up at the old house, noting its high, cracked walls and the long-standing signs of age. She rang the bell, hearing footsteps approaching. Nathan opened the door, and Evelyn sighed in relief.

Evelyn discovered the man in white as the new tenant of the old house, along with a few others, after that night. She hesitated before coming, but was relieved Nathan answered the door. She smiled, lifting the food containers, not entering, "Hello, I've brought the food!"

As she spoke, she noticed two men peeking from a third-floor window, one wearing glasses and the other short. Evelyn, with her keen eyesight, saw them clearly despite the distance.

Two men on the third floor were deliberately observing the "little chef."

If Norman hadn't visited with his bruised face to apologize, they wouldn't have known that Wei Zong Tao had played hero and saved Evelyn. Their first reaction was: what fun!

Jayce was not the person who enthusiastically performed good deeds. He preferred to 'benefit from others' conflicts' and enjoyed being the 'sparrow in the rear', sometimes even playing the role of the 'fisherman'. He never does anything useless for strangers. Therefore, when the doorbell rang, two of his men, one emerging from the kitchen and the other setting aside his laptop, both went to the door. They exchanged a knowing look, casually glancing out to see Evelyn. The short man remarked, "She's pretty, a bit young, though!"

Nathan shared the same assessment. The young girl before them had a slender, fair, and gentle appearance, resembling a high school student, likely not even twenty. It seemed Jayce was just bored these days.

Thinking about this, Nathan said, "Come in!" Without waiting for Evelyn's response, he turned and walked inside.
