Trevor
I was seated at the club, surrounded by the lively chatter and clinking glasses, enjoying a night out with my best friend, Hunter. We were having so much fun, our laughter filled the air as we shared stories from since we last saw each other which happened to be a month ago before he left with his wife and daughter for vacation.
"So how is Raven?" Hunter asked.
"Uhh," I rose a questioning brow not quite understanding who he was talking about. He must have got the hint because his eyes widened in some kind of shock.
"Don't tell me that forgetting your wife's name is still a habit of yours."
"Ohh," I shook my head in realization. Why in the world did he have to bring her up here, he knows how much I hate her. Just hearing her name killed my whole mood.
I picked up my glass with a chuckle as I faced my best friend. "You should have said Witch, that's the name I understand."
"What!" Hunter gasped, almostchoking on his drink. "That's so unromantic."
"I know," I muttered arrogantly as I carried my glass of red wine to my lips, just as I was about to take a sip of my lovely drink, my phone buzzed insistently in my pant pocket.
I immediately reached for it, looking at the caller ID my brows furrowed in annoyance as I saw my dad's name flashing on the screen. I knew all too well that this was'nt't going to be a pleasant call at all. My dad has always had a knack for spoiling my mood with his unsolicited advice and criticism. I bet that bitch, supposedly my wife already got to him and manipulated him, it's like a super power for her. I wonder how she does it considering my dad never listens to anything I tell him. In his eyes my silly wife is always right.
Reluctantly, I answered the call, my voice tinged with resignation. "Hello, Dad. What is it this time?"
On the other end of the line, my dad's voice carried a mix of concern and authority. "Trevor, I hope I'm not interrupting anything important, but there's something we need to discuss."
I sighed, glancing at Hunter, who raised an eyebrow in silent curiosity. "Fine, Dad. What is it?"
There was a pause, as if he was gathering his thoughts before speaking. "Trevor, I've heard some things about the new contract you've been considering. Why don't you let Raven work on it, she has good skills and she really wants to work on it. Give her a chance to at least prove herself to you."
I unconsciously clenched my jaw, my frustration simmering beneath the surface. "Dad, I appreciate your concern, but I've thought this through. It's not something I'm taking lightly. This contract is so important, I can't just give it to her."
Dad's voice remained steady, his tone tinged with patience and wisdom. "I understand, son but sometimes, a fresh perspective can shed light on things we might have overlooked. I just want what's best for you and Raven"
My grip tightened around my phone, my emotions swirling within me. Why the hell did she have to bring dad into this, is she that so desperate to get this contract, well in that case there is no way am letting her get it.
"Dad, I appreciate your concern, but I need you to trust me on this. Iknow what I'm doing."
There was a brief silence, and I could almost picture dad's sigh on the other end of the line. "Alright, son. I'll trust your judgment. Just promise me you'll consider giving her a chance."
I felt a mix of relief and frustration wash over me since dad had decided to not press with this matter. I knew he meant well for both the company and his nagging daughter in law plus myself but I yearned to make my own choices, do things my own way without my authority being questioned, for fucks sake am the CEO not her.
"I promise, Dad," I said pretty much knowing I was lying, there was no way I was giving her a chance to ruin all my hard work, the Ferrari contract was so important to me, there was no way I was just going to hand it over to her like that. No hell way.
And for what she did. I turned to my best friend whose face was full of so many questions for me, I rose my glass once more with a dirty smirk playing on my lips. I took a long sip of my wine.
She is going to pay for it.
