Chapter 8 I promise to make your wish come true

Samantha and her mum sat down on the chair as they saw doctors and nurses rush into the emergency room. Samantha bent her head with her hands placed on it. Tears freely flowed from her eyes. Mrs Brooklyn kept staring into space in deep thoughts. She wasn't herself anymore.

Suddenly, Samantha's phone began to ring. She checked it and breathed heavily. It was her brother, Josh.

☎ Josh ? What's up

☎Where are you? Mum too, Where's she? Where did you guys run off to? You made I and Carly worried

Tears continued flowing from her eyes, Samantha bit her lips sadly and finally found her voice.

☎ Sorry, Huh... We went to the supermarket to get some food stuffs we forgot, Sorry for not telling you guys... We were huh... Just in a hurry

☎ Noona? Are you alright?

☎ Whaa...What? Samantha stammered

☎ Are you crying? Your voice–

☎ Have you guys eaten dinner yet? Samantha cut him short immediately, She wanted to change the topic rather than going any further.

☎ No, Not yet

☎ Aren't you guys hungry?

☎ Kind of, Carly looks hungry though ,Josh said as he stole glances at Carly who ate cookies from a pack.

☎ Alright, Hold on..... Mum? Did you cook dinner? Samantha asked turning to her mum.

Mrs Brooklyn however, couldn't reply. She was lost in deep thoughts. She sighed heavily now and then, Her eyes were bloodshoted already.

"Mum, Did you prepare something for dinner?" Samantha whispered touching her mum's shoulder.

"Huh? What did you say?" Mrs Brooklyn finally asked after getting herself back

"What's this mum? Didn't you hear me? I asked about dinner?"

"Oh yeah... I prepared dinner, It's on the kitchen table"

"Okay... ☎ Joshua? Check the kitchen table, Dish your food and Carly's only.

☎ Alright, When are you guys coming home then?

☎ I don't really know....You know what? Don't wait for us... Just sleep in time and don't tell Carly anything even if she asks, Make sure she goes to bed early... Goodnight.

Samantha quickly cut the call and placed her palms on her face, She sighed deeply and faced her mum who couldn't stop crying.

The Next Day came and Samantha and her mum could be seen sleeping on the hospital's chair. The doctor saw them and signalled to the nurse who tapped them lightly on their laps.

They slowly opened their eyes. Immediately, Their eyes met with the doctor and nurses. They stood up swiftly and went closer to the doctor.

"Sir? My husband? How... Please, How is he now?" Mrs Brooklyn asked with her heart beating fast.

Samantha watched as she felt her heart trying to burst out of her chest, She cleaned her eyes which almost dropped down tears.

"I promise dad, If you can live... I'm going to write another exam and make you proud" She whispered to herself as she widened her ears to hear the news.quickly sat on the floor holding her chest tight.

"Well... Huh? He's okay–

"Thank God! Yes!"Samantha yelled as she jumped happily. Her mother sighed in relief and

"As I was saying He's okay but he needs rest for at least some weaks....So, for now he can't go home" The doctor continued

"Okay doctor, Thank you so much, We are grateful.... May God bless you! So, Can we see him now?" Mrs Brooklyn asked

"Yeah, Sure... Uhmm, Nurse Vee, Please do lead them to his room" The Doctor said

"Okay Doctor, Please... Do follow me" The Nurse said as she led the way while the others followed.

"Dad! You scared me! Anyways, Thank you for surviving it" Samantha said in tears.

"Why are you now crying when you have a happy face?" Mr Brooklyn asked cleaning Samantha's flowing tears with his hand

"I'm just glad, It's tears of joy" Samantha smiled

"What really happened hunny? Huh? You made me almost faint" Mrs Brooklyn said as tears rushed from her eyes

"A car ran to me when I was about crossing the road but don't worry I'm okay... Geez, Why do you guys keep crying huh? Please... Don't cry, I'm not dead as you can see?" He said with a smile

"But Dad? What about the person that hit you?"

"Huh? Well, She survived it"

"Huh? She? Is she a woman?"

"More like a lady, She had long hair–

"Wait, Did you see her face?"

"I did, But I've forgotten how she looks like"

"Where's she now?" Mrs Brooklyn asked

"The thing is that....It's a hit-and-run"

"What? Hit-and-run?" Brooklyn and her mum yelled simultaneously

"Well, Yeah.. Immediately, She hit me with her car... She zoomed off immediately but I saw her face, She came out of the car to take a look at me. She checked my heart beat and pulse. After doing that, She entered the car and left without a word She didn't even call the ambulance or even the cops, though, I can't just remember who she is... Anyways, The police will work on that... What of Joshua and Carly?"

"So? A good Samaritan brought you here? Samantha asked. Her dad nodded.

"Thank Godness, The Good Samaritan called with your phone, I'm glad he did so" Mrs Brooklyn said

"Mum, Dad, Let's keep it a secret from Josh and Carly, I don't want them getting worried"

"I might stay here for weeks before I get myself together.... What will you tell them as an excuse for my absence?"

"Mum will just lie to them saying you rushed to our hometown to take care of some business or family matters, You know?"

"Yeah sure, It might work on Josh but not on Carly , She asks a lot of questions.... She's smart you know?" Mrs Brooklyn said

"That doesn't matter, We don't really have to reply all her questions,,We will just tell her the necessary ones... That's all"

Mrs Brooklyn nodded and smiled.

"Dad, I have something to tell you, Rather... It's a gift for you from me"

"What? Really? I'm excited!..What's it?"

"I'm going to now make your wish come true, I'm going to register and write another exam, I'm also going to make you proud and happy by doing very well in my papers!" Samantha whispered with a smile.

"Oh my! Lovely daughter... Thank you so much, Do you know? That's the best gift ever, You just placed a smile on my face, Thank you My Sweetheart! Come over here, Give dad a hug!" Mr Brooklyn said as he raised hiself up from the bed. Samantha went closer to him and hugged him tight. "Thank you for making my wish come true" He whispered to her ears as he felt joyful tears flow from his eyes.

"Thank you too for living" Samantha whispered back as tears flowed from her eyes.
