Emily didn't believe what I said.
She thought I was just being angry.
For three years of marriage, I had doted on her, loving her deeply.
So she was convinced that I would generously forgive her.
In fact, she overestimated herself and underestimated me.
I packed my things and moved into the company dormitory.
Just then, someone in our class group chat organized a gathering.
I didn't want to go at first, but as a top graduate of the class, I couldn't refuse.
So I agreed.
After work, I went straight to the party.
The people who came to the gathering were my old friends, and they arrived in groups.
I chose a corner seat and exchanged pleasantries with the person next to me.
"Why didn't Emily come with you?"
When I was about to speak, the door of the private room was pushed open. It was Nick who came in, and behind him was my wife, Emily.
Under the dim lighting, I couldn't see their expressions clearly.
However, everyone at the gathering could sense the subtle tension in the air.
The classmate next to me coughed and subtly shifted his position.
Obviously, he wanted Emily to sit beside me.
We were all adults, and many of us understood the underlying issues.
But Emily only glanced at me before sitting down with Nick.
I knew she was angry.
She was angry at what I did that night.
I disturbed the beautiful night of her and Nick.
And she was also angry with me for suggesting the divorce.
I snorted and gulped down the wine in front of me.
After drinking for a while, someone suggested playing Truth or Dare.
The bottle spun on the table and eventually stopped in front of Nick.
A man who had been close to Nick asked, "Why haven't you gotten married after so many years?"
Without saying anything, Nick just turned his head to look at Emily.
A man who was upright smiled and said, "Well, it's obvious that he was waiting for Emily."
The monitor coughed, rolled his eyes at him and comforted me.
He said it was just a game and they were just kidding.
I shook my head to show that I didn't care.
If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have remembered that Emily and Nick grew up together.
They had grown up together and were now even closer.
After the party, I went out first.
Emily grabbed my arm and said, "We were just kidding. Don't take it to heart."
It seemed she still remembered my existence, that she had a husband.
I stared at her and saw the hickey on her neck from this angle.
But after a glance, I looked away and said, "It's okay. It has nothing to do with me."
Emily suddenly got angry. "So you don't mind?"
"That's your business. Why should I care?"
Emily wanted to say something more.
At this time, Nick came up and put his arm around her shoulder intimately.
Leaning against her, he said, "Emily, I'm a little drunk. Can you send me back?"
Emily didn't agree immediately.
This time, she looked at me as if she was expecting me to say something.
But I just smiled and said, "Go ahead."
I knew her hesitation was just an act, because her eyes were filled with concern.
But she was still pretending to be devoted, and it only made me feel disgusting.
As I watched them cuddling and getting into the car, my eyes grew cold, and I dialed a phone number.
"Help me draft the divorce agreement. The sooner, the better."
I couldn't stand it anymore.
