Chapter 5 Healing From The Day

"Your father's attorney showed up today, and he said your father had told him that you must be married and have a family of your own before you can have the properties in your name," Mrs. Hilton announced sadly to Jay as he stepped into the Sitting room to take a seat after exchanging greetings.

"What???" Jay sprang up without hesitation, more frustrated than bewildered. How could his father make such a trivial request?

"I'm surprised as well, I had no idea until today. That's why I requested you come over to discuss it," she said.

"Mum, I'm his son...His only fucking son! Did he have to? I work my ass off every day for that company," he yelled angrily.

"Please calm down, Jay. You and Rose will be engaged in a few weeks. And to speed things up, as soon as that occurs, we may choose a wedding date and begin planning," she assured him, unaware of their breakup.

"Rose? Rose and I broke up today," he revealed.

"What do you mean you both broke up, Jay? What happened?" she questioned.

"I can't marry Rose, Mum. She has continuously proven to be an infidel and that's not whom I want to keep as a wife,"

he let out sadly.

"You mean Rose has been cheating on you? That's unbelievable," she asked in shock.

"This is the third one I'm finding out, the third time for crying out loud! It's tough to let go of her, but I just can't deal with it any longer," he cried out, almost like a child.

"It's okay dear. You'll surely find someone better," trying to picture the constant pain he must have been feeling, she reassured him. As far as she was aware, her son is a decent man, and any woman who finds herself in his company should consider herself fortunate.

Mrs. Hilton was furious that Rose had played with her son's emotions. She had always thought Rose was respectable, or at least decent enough to marry her only son, whom she adored and would go additional miles for.

Having talked to his mother for a while, Jay decided to leave. "I guess I'll be on my way now mum," he said.

"Alright son, don't worry everything will fall in place pretty soon," Mrs. Hilton assured as she saw him off to the door.

He was so relieved to be able to talk to someone about his emotional struggles.

At about 10:53 pm, his friend, Max called. He had called earlier when he was on his way to his mum's and Jay had mentioned to him about his breakup with Rose and told

Max he was heading out to see mum.

"Yo buddy, done with mum now? Hope she's good?" he asked as Jay picked up the call.

"Yes she is, left already. I'm driving towards the bar downtown to grab a bottle or two to calm myself." Jay answered.

"Oh cool, I will join you there then." he said, hanging up the call.

Random thoughts went through Jay's mind. "Where on earth am I supposed to get a girlfriend, let alone a wife before I can claim full ownership of the company and its shares? Or are they all trying to pull my legs?" These were the thoughts that flooded his mind.

Certainly not, but what he doesn't fully comprehend is the connection between getting married and owning the business. If his father believed that being married before taking ownership of the business would make a person responsible, then for all he cared, he could as well own the business and be reckless.

If working for him for years trying to prove his proficiency could not change his mind why does he think marriage would?

He's had an extremely difficult day, starting with; a bothersome new employee who arrived late on her first day at work, followed by his girlfriend, now "ex" who cheated on him, and lastly, his late father's self-centered choice.

Indeed! A hearty gulp of alcohol was just what he needed to get his hurt under control.

It didn't seem like the weekend yet; the street was far too bustling for a Tuesday. He needed to find the ideal parking spot among the many elegant vehicles parked outside the bar.

After finding a space, he parked and entered the bar right away. With the entire scene filled with the overwhelming scent of booze, sweaty skin, and cigarettes along with loud music. Someone who isn't accustomed to it would probably throw up.

However, perhaps, unlike him, these guys in the bar had no problems in real life. He headed straight to the bar counter and placed his order.

"Yes. The regular, two glasses please," he said as he raised up his fingers signaling to the bartender.

He was engrossed observing everyone dancing and moving from one corner of the bar to the other. As soon as his drinks were ready, he picked up the first glass and gulped it down his throat like a thirsty fish. Definitely, a chilled Manhattan was the real deal!

He was still reminiscing on how good the drink tasted when Max entered the Bar, heading towards where he sat.

When Max got close he noticed that he had arrived with a lady, whom he clearly knew wasn't Max's girlfriend, and he certainly doesn't go around frolicking with women.

Jay whispered amidst the noise asking him who the lady was and why he didn't mention that he was coming with a friend.

Max whispered back something to Jay in response and Jay became angry.

"What? What the actual fuck! Maxwell," he yelled and stormed out of the Bar.
