Chapter 4 4

Just after treating Nathan's wounds, he received a call from his senior in the lab, informing him that there was an adjustment needed for the mathematical model for tomorrow's competition.

I gave him a passionate kiss before letting him leave for the lab. That proud little rascal, his face showed reluctance, but his pouting lips were quite honest.

It felt so satisfying to tease a future big shot before he fully blossomed.

That night, just after I had finished my bath and lay down on the bed, I received a call from Caleb.

"Half an hour, come to Shades Club, and wear that red spaghetti strap dress."

I couldn't help but shiver.

Hearing that lazy voice, I was reminded of how he had imprisoned me in a villa in my previous life, torturing me every night, gripping my waist fiercely: "Scarlett, you said you loved me, you can't leave me ever."

I closed my eyes and said, "I'm not going. Caleb, don't contact me again."

There was a pause on the other end, followed by a light chuckle: "Still angry? Hazel isn't here today, I only called you."

"If you don't like her, I won't bring her along in the future."

I said, "It's not about her, I just don't want to see you anymore. We come from different worlds."

He laughed mockingly: "Then who do you belong with? Nathan? I heard you two are quite close now."

"What can he give you? Tuition fees? Medical bills? Or is it just that loser himself?"

I said coldly, "Caleb, it's because all you have is money that no one likes you."

There was a few seconds of silence before he sneered: "Your mom's medical bills need to be renewed, right?"

I remembered the call from the hospital half an hour ago urging payment and fell silent.

"Scarlett, think about whether you have the luxury to be willful."

I pressed my lips together.

This month's part-time salary had just been deposited, and after careful calculation, I had four thousand in my account. The hospital needed at least three thousand, leaving me with one thousand to last until next month.

But where would I find the money for next month's medical bills...

I bit my lip in frustration.

While I was still struggling, Caleb spoke again: "Tomorrow is the math modeling competition, and I will definitely win."

"My dad said if I win this competition, he'll let me take charge of the internet finance business."

"Scarlett, remember to dress nicely tomorrow and come to my celebration party."

"Make me happy, and your mom's medical bills will be taken care of."

The call was cut off.

I rolled over and scoffed to myself. He wouldn't win; Nathan's model was the most perfect. In the previous life...

I suddenly opened my eyes.

In the previous life, Nathan had completed and sealed his model days earlier. But the day before the competition, compromising photos of him were spread online, leading to his withdrawal and suspension from school.

In this life, he would participate in the competition as planned.

But his model had already been sealed and didn't need any data adjustments.

So just now...

I frowned, got up, dressed, and headed out.
