Chapter 6 Sophie Part 1- James Did What

"Soph" I heard my name being called as I struggled to open my eyes and turned to the voice to see Liberty standing next to me

"Good morning" I yawned

"Good morning to you too, Sleeping Beauty. We're late" she said

"What!" I yelled as I jumped up and ran to the bathroom.

Moving as if my life depended on it I quickly got into the shower showing while brushing my teeth at the same time when Liberty walked in

"Liberty, why didn't you wake me up early?" I asked

"Girl, I just woke up myself," she yawned as I came out to see her fixing her hair

"My chemistry teacher's gonna kill me," I said as Liberty stepped in

"So you have chem first again?" she asked turning on the shower

"I have chem first all week," I said running out of the bathroom to get ready.

About fifteen minutes later we were outside

"Great he's late again" I sighed

"Why don't you ride with me?" Liberty asked

"Thanks, Libbs," I said before we entered her car and drove off

About ten minutes down the road my phone rang and knowing who it was I answered

"Hey Sophie," he said nonchalantly

"Don't hey Sophie me. Where the hell are you, Nick?" I said angrily

"I'm getting the feeling you're angry about something" he joked

"Oh no I just love yelling," I rolled my eyes

"Look, I'm sorry I couldn't pick you up okay," he said

"Really Nick what was so important this time?" I asked

"Nothing. I just went to get a drink last night and-" he said before I interrupted him

"You've got to be kidding me, Nick. You're drinking again" I said

"It was just a little"

"You wouldn't be hungover if it was just a little Nick"

"I know I shouldn't have. It's just I was in a bad head space and you didn't tell me what you were talking to Taylor about-" he said

"So this is my fault?!" I snapped

"I didn't say that. I'm just saying all you had to do is tell me what you and Taylor" he said

"Don't bring Taylor into this Nick" I said

"What you have a problem with me talking about him," Nick said clearly jealous

"You know what Nick I'm not doing this. I'll talk to you later" I said hanging up trying not to throw my phone out the window

"So who was it?" Liberty tried to clear the air

"The ice cream man" I answered bitterly

"Wow," she said as I sighed

"Sorry Liberty, I'm just pissed at Nick right now" I apologized

"Really the argument didn't give it away," she said

"We weren't arguing," I said

"Mhm hmm like how you weren't arguing with James last night," she said

"You heard that?" I said embarrassed

"Girl the whole block heard" she answered

"Great," I said sarcastically

"So what was that about anyway?" she asked

"An incident. Taylor was upset about me accidentally creating a potentially poisonous gas in the lab" I said

"Well considering how quiet things got after that I'm guessing you kissed and made up" she joked

"Um...." I said as I blushed remembering the kiss and then Liberty lost control of the car almost crashing into a tree before getting control again

"I'd like to get to school alive please," I said

"YOU KISSED JAMES!!" she shouted

"Mind saying it a little louder I don't think the entire town heard," I said

"Just hope Nick doesn't," she said

"It was just a little kiss," I said

"And how long did that 'little kiss' last?" she asked skeptically

"Just a few minutes," I said

"A few minutes," she said shocked

"Yeah around three or closer to five," I said

"Sophia," she said

"Liberty it didn't mean anything," I said

"If you say so," she said

"It really didn't," I said before we dropped the topic.

We arrived at school soon after and I immediately rushed to class before trying my best to silently make it to my desk while Mrs. Jones was writing on the board

"Nice of you to join us Miss Vanderbilt," she said still writing

"How did you know it was me?" I asked

"I've been doing this for quite some time do you think you're the first to try sneaking in. Take your seat" she said as I sighed and sat down

"Why so late Sophie? Let me guess boyfriend troubles" Taylor joked

"I woke up late this morning," I said

"What? You were so peacefully dreaming about me that you forgot about school" he teased

"As if" I scoffed rolling my eyes

"I couldn't sleep. Maybe it's because I felt guilty about staying over at another guy's house until midnight" I joked

"How scandalous" he continued. It was so nice that all the air was clear and we could joke again

"Don't worry, nothing happened" I said

"I wouldn't say nothing," he said

"I would," I said

"Well I seem to remember a certain blonde hair girl kissing me," he said

"Taylor, that was just a friendly kiss," I said

"Friends don't kiss with tongue," he said

"Mister Taylor, Miss Vanderbilt. Mind sharing your conversation with the class" the teacher said

"Um.....we do," we said

"Then would you mind being quiet and allow me to continue my class," she said

"Yes, miss. We're sorry" we said before she turned back to everyone else

"Now I have finished marking your assignments and I'll be handing them out," she said as she took out the pile of papers and started walking to everyone's desk and putting down the paper

Soon she placed ours on our table and we were shocked, to say the least about the grade

"What the hell is this?" Taylor accidentally said out loud

"That, Mister Taylor, is called a B+ and it's also called your grade," she said

"But why did we get a B+?" I asked

"Well, apart from handing it unfinished work you also handed it in late. You should be lucky you even managed to get such a high grade" she said

"But I handed it the minute I got into class," Taylor said

"Yes that may be the case but all work must be handed in one day prior to the due date or have you forgotten," she said before walking away and returned to the front of the class

"Now the lesson today will be a revision on acids, bases, and pH," she said.

The class went by normally except for Taylor angrily grumbling to himself. The minute the class ended the strangest thing happened out of nowhere Taylor kissed on my cheek and whispered, "Later beautiful" in my ear before walking out of the class.

I was embarrassed, to say the least. People in the class were staring at me with scandalous looks and I could already hear the gossip starting.
