Chapter 7 The unknown plan toward Madriod

Elsie POV

Elsie is seated around the campfire set up by Madriod. They are talking about their desired aspirations and wants in life. Elsie is unaware of the commotion caused by her disappearance at the Wolds's mansion.

A few days later, Elsie enjoys being with Madriod and forgetting about her worries. She still doesn't know her origin or name and hopes to recover it soon. During a late-night meal, Madriod sets up the fire to roast a lump of meat he caught while hunting earlier.

Elsie withdraws as she recalls the kind words of Madriod when she woke from the fall and the strange connection she felt with him. She recalls his words to her, having noticed her uneasiness. "You don't have to worry," he said reassuringly. "I won't hurt you."

"Rosa, Rosa are you alright?" "I noticed you seemed lost in space," he said with a wide grin on his face.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I must have drifted off into my thoughts and didn't hear what you said," Elsie replied cheekily.

"Okay if you say so. Tomorrow I will be joining the other members in hunting down a wolf. News got to us that some wolves were seen lurking around close enough to our border," Madriod said while turning the meat to cook evenly.

Elsie felt a shiver run down her spine at his words. She had heard stories about wolf hunters like him, stories of how they hunted down wolves and killed them without mercy or compassion. She knew that she was a wolf herself, and that made her vulnerable to their wrath. But something about Madriod made her feel safe, made her trust him despite her fears.

It strikes her immediately that the werewolves were out of their territory and lurking around the human borders when they seldomly left the kingdom and were forbidden to show themselves, lest they get killed. As she is still blank about her origin, she feels like she must be connected to the appearance of the werewolves but can't match the two pieces together.

"Okay, but be careful. Wolves are said to be dangerous," she replied, running her hands through the hem of her dress without looking up at him.

Madriod noticed the shy act and smiled to himself faintly, replying, "Okay."

After dinner, Elsie went into a sleeping mood thinking about all the events that happened lately and what next will engulf her. She woke to a string of bright lights that had escaped through the raffia mat that was placed over the entrance to serve as a door to hit her. She readily sat up, remembering that Madriod must have stepped out for the hunting session and she was all alone.

Rising to her feet, she takes a bowl of water to wash her face and resolves to surprise Madriod with a meal today as he has always been the one taking good care of her. She jumps a little, twirling around like a little girl who just got a princess playhouse or an extraordinary gift. She stops to ask herself what's wrong with her. She seems happy at the thought of preparing a meal for a man she just met a few days ago.

Speaking to herself, "It's a way of reciprocating his care," she assured herself while knowing deep in her heart that it's more than just the care.

Madriod POV

On his way to the meeting arena, his thoughts flew to Elsie. He feels he shouldn't have left her alone due to what happened before, but he must answer the call of duty and can't bring her along with him. Resolving to get home as early as possible, he hopes she is safe till he returns. He finds himself surrounded by a new profound feeling towards her but cannot pinpoint it.

"Droid, Droid, you seem lost in thought. Hope all is well," Troy, a member of the hunting group, called out while walking up to him.

Troy is Madriod's very good friend in the group and stands by him whenever a crisis or argument occurs involving Madriod.

"Hey, sorry I didn't hear you call out. What's going on with you?" Madriod inquired, brushing aside his thoughts.

"I'm good, and you? You seem as though you have a family to think of when I know you're purely single," Troy laughed while patting his shoulder.

A quick image of Rosa brushed into his thoughts, and he wondered why, but he smiled at Troy's words and walked beside him to join the others.

Arriving at the arena, there were members of the hunting group, and Droid, being the captain, walks to the center to address the crowd.

"Greetings great hunters of this land, we have a mission which is to capture the werewolf who despises the human race and preys on the innocent. We got information that they were spotted close to the borders, and we are going to hunt them down so they return no more."

"Stand, take your weapons, brave up, and march out," Madriod roared out the instructions, and they set out for the borders.

"Look at how he's acting so mighty and pompous. I wonder what he will do when he is no longer captain," Dewin, a member of the group exclaimed.

Dewin loathes Madriod greatly and envies his position as Captain of the hunting group. He tried several times to secure the seat for himself in the past but proved abortive.

He doesn't know what is coming his way, he should keep priding with airs now, later he will shed the tears of a new born baby" a fellow member and Dewin cahoot chorused.

Madriod ignorant of the evil discussion set about him, his mind wanders back to Rosa at home and sees himself thinking more about her each day. Eager to get home, he sped up the hunting session and dispatched various groups to a specific direction to search for the werewolf but reminded them to stay out of the werewolf borders.
