Chapter 6 PROMISES

After dinner we went to his family in the private sitting room. They sat there eagerly waiting for us to finish our meal so they could chat with me for a bit more.

"Evelyn, we know your background. We're so glad you're finally here. Marcus told us last year that you were his mate", Luna Philida told me. I was already surprised when she said this the first time in my room and now I have the opportunity to question them about this. I turned my head to Marcus. "How did you find out? I don't remember ever being close to you. I was told that the scent of a mate is very important to recognize a mate", I asked him.

"You were at the after-school party two years ago. I was in the VIP room with my friends when I smelled you," Marcus explained. "You didn't notice because you were sixteen at the time. Didn't you feel the pull when you first entered my office?". "Yes," I said in a hushed voice.

"I think we should plan a party to introduce Evelyn as your mate, Marcus. In two or three years you will be the alpha and it is important for the pack to know that you already have a luna. To reassure them that the next alpha will be strong enough to lead the pack."

"Good idea!", it boomed enthusiastic from the side where Marcus's sisters were sitting. They began to shake their hips with hands in the air, dancing as if the party had already started. They are clearly real party animals. No one noticed my reluctance. After the betrayal of Michael, I rarely socialized with pack members and never went to parties.

We talked for some time and around midnight I tried to hide my yawns.

'You can go upstairs and have a good rest, my child. You must be very tired.We can talk more tomorrow," my mother-in-law said when she noticed I was sleepy. Marcus took my hand in his, we greeted the family and went up. Out of the elevator, Marcus took me to a spear-white door. "Here are my rooms. You can't come here until after our mating", he told me. "I'll just let you in tonight to see how I live". We went in and I was totally impressed of what I saw. The colors of the sitting room were so well blended, really an artwork. From the sitting room we stepped into a small kitchen with all stainless steel appliances and heavenly gray. Marcus opened another white door and pulled me in. That bedroom was the most beautiful I have ever seen. Never in my life had I seen colors so mixed up this excellent to create a breathtaking view. "Are you really staying here?", I asked the obvious, while holding in my breath. "This is so nice". A king-size bed in the middle with side tables, a long sofa with fine roll cushions. The curtains match the bedsheets and sofa. There is also a dresser and an artistically shaped bedside lamp. "Marcus, you are so lucky. This is a dream apartment."

He took me in his arms in a tight embrace and kissed the top of my head.

"Evelyn, let's make it work. I promise to be a good mate for you,' he whispered in my ear. "You will have nothing to complain about. You will be my princess". I lifted my head and looked into his loving eyes. "Promise?" He laughed relieved, pressing my head softly to his chest. His kiss came down from the top of my head traveling to my forehead to my nose, to gently striking my lips. There it was again, that fireball in my stomach, the mate bond at work.

"Let me take you to your room".

In my room I hesitated whether to tell him that red is definitely not my color. I decided not to tell. I just didn't want to disappoint him, ruin this bliss moment with my mate. Coming from an indifferent, quarrelsome family, love and affection is just what I need. Now that the Moon Goddess decided to mate me with the alpha's son, I accepted my fate and do anything to make my life better.

"Do you like your room?" Marcus asked me. "After everyone in the family knew I had already found my mate, I started preparing for your arrival. I'm not an interior designer, I just let my feelings guide me". "I appreciate everything you've done to make me feel at home here, Marcus. I'm so excited to start a new life here," I thank him. He held me tight again, gave me a peck on the lips and reluctantly walked out of my room.
