Chapter 5 Protect Myself

Noah

~•~

"Noah isn't over me and you know that, so stop wasting your time trying to be all nice and caring, she's never going to be in love with you. She can never get over me."

His harsh words felt like a slap in the face, leaving me speechless. I stood at the entrance of the door and watched the boys argue. They didn't even notice I had been standing there.

He really thought I could never get over him? I was about to go back inside but turned back when I heard the sound of someone's body thumping to the ground.

Aiden had punched Dimitri who was lying on the ground, looking all weak. I walked over and stretched my hands to Aiden, so we would go inside together.

Before we went inside, I gave Dimitri, who had finally opened his eyes, a disappointing nod before going back into the house with Aiden.

I had always tried to stay out of their arguments and didn't take sides even when I knew who was wrong. I didn't want to get caught up in the middle, so I just kept my mouth shut.

But this time, it was different. Dimitri's words hurt me and he actually deserved that punch. He was a self-absorbed and egotistical person.

"Are you okay?" I asked Aiden as we walked into his room. His room was the closest to the main door.

"He's just an ass, I wouldn't let him spoil my day." He responded before disappearing into the bathroom. The sound of the running water from the sink meant he was washing up.

I sat on his bed, patiently waiting for him to come back. I looked around his room, admiring the artwork on the walls.

Even if I had seen them a thousand times, I couldn't stop thinking of how someone could be so talented.

Aiden painted each and every one of the paintings hanging on the wall. He also made one of me which I put on the wall opposite my bed.

"Do you want to get out of here?" He asked, gently folding the white towel he had just used and placing it on the dryer.

With the fight that just happened, the house was going to be filled with tension, and going away wasn't going to be such a bad idea.

"Yeah, we should go to Katie's," I suggested with a slight smile. I hadn't seen her in a while and she would be a good distraction from everything that was going on.

Aiden nodded his head and grabbed his car keys from the brown wooden table in the corner of his room.

"Let's go." He opened his door and gestured for me to leave the room. After we got out, he closed the door behind him.

Aiden and Katie were also friends, so he didn't mind hanging out with us. We were like three best friends but I was closer to Katie than he was. Even though Katie and Aiden were friends first.

"I'm sorry about what Dimitri said earlier." I apologized on his behalf. "I'm also sorry about the scene he created in my room this morning."

"You know you don't have to apologize?" He raised a brow at me and opened the car door for me to enter. "It's not your fault he's acting that way." He closed the door after I was settled in.

I waited for him to get into the car before speaking again. "I know but you guys are fighting because of me."

"Can we stop talking about him?" He gave me a pleasing look before starting the car and I nodded my head.

I just wanted to make sure Aiden was okay. Dimitri said some pretty harsh things about him wasting his time on me and how I was never going to love him.

I didn't know how he felt about that and he wasn't going to talk about it, so I didn't ask further.

"How much of our conversation did you hear?" Aiden asked me and I immediately knew he worried about me hearing the part where they said the hunters had returned.

"I heard you guys talk about the hunters," I replied, giving him a flat look. I didn't want to give off any emotions, I didn't want him to be worried or try talking me out of whatever plans I had. I didn't have a plan yet but I was surely going to come up with one.

"You know it's not certain yet." I rolled my eyes at his fake reassurance. "It could just be a rumor." He added when he saw I wasn't assured it was a rumor.

"You don't have to try to make me feel better. I don't even want to think about it. I also hope it is just a rumor but we still have to be prepared in case they're really here."

"Prepared? Prepared to do what? You don't have to worry. Dimitri and I will protect you." I scoffed immediately after he mentioned Dimitri's name.

Although, what he said was true. Even with everything happening, Dimitri wouldn't let anything happen to my life.

"I can protect myself."

Aiden didn't want to argue with me so he didn't respond and just pulled up into Katie's driveway. The drive to her house didn't take long because her house wasn't far from ours.

"Noah," Katie screamed at the top of her voice when she saw me through the car window. She opened the door and jumped into the car, pulling me into a suffocating hug.

I couldn't help but break into happy giggles. "I've missed you too," I said, throwing my arms over her.

When she was satisfied with the hug, she stepped out of the car. "Hey, Aiden." She turned and smiled at Aiden.

"I thought I was invisible for a second." He teased her and locked the car when I stepped outside.

"Do you guys want something to eat?" Katie asked as we settled on the couch in the living room.

Aiden and I exchanged glances before nodding our heads in unison. "Nope, thanks." We both replied.

Katie raised a brow and gave us a skeptical look. "Are you sure?" She focused on me. "You never say no to my meal."

Katie was an excellent cook but with everything that had happened, I didn't have any appetite to eat. Even if the news was unconfirmed, the thought of hunters being back in town was enough to fill me with dread. I felt like I was on edge, waiting for something terrible to happen.
