Chapter 5 Five

Two days later...

At the hospital...

"Alright Mr. William, you're good to go. Be sure to take your medications, and don't exert yourself". The doctor said to William with a smile.

"I'll make sure he takes his medications, doctor. He'll take a lot of rest too". Elena said reassuringly.

"Great. Have a good day". The doctor said, as he left.

"You too doctor". Elena responded after him

William sat on a wheelchair, and Elena rolled it for him, while Lily and Arianna followed from behind.

As they approached the main entrance of the hospital, Lily glanced towards the reception. A young man stood at the reception, discussing with a nurse.

His back was turned, but Lily couldn't help but feel that he looked oddly familiar.

"Mr. Evan?" Lily murmured, as he turned his back, facing her now. The nurse Evan was talking to, left.

"Let's go, Liliana". Arianna scoffed on seeing him. Elena stopped pushing William's wheelchair.

"Mr. Evan, why are you here?" Elena asked.

Evan held a flower bouquet in his hands, and some medicines.

"Oh... I..."

"Are you sure you're okay? This is the second time I'm seeing you with prescriptions". Lily said, but she regretted it immediately, feeling like she was too nosy.

She stared at the flowers he held in his hands.

'He must have a girlfriend'. Lily thought.

"Who are you?" William asked, looking confused.

"He's just some wretched rat..."

"Ari! What the hell is wrong with you!?" Lily spat angrily at her, but Arianna just rolled her eyes and folded her arms to her chest.

"I'm so sorry about that, Mr. Evan. Forgive her rude behavior".

"That's okay, Miss Hart. You don't need to apologize. It..."

"Young man, you haven't answered my question. Who are you?"

"Oh Dad, he's..." Lily tried to say, but William stopped her with the wave of his hand.

"I'm Evan, sir".

"And... How does my family know you?"

"Oh... I..."

"He saved you Dad". Lily said immediately, noticing Evan's composure. He felt uncomfortable.

"You saved me? How? I don't understand".

"Well, if not for him honey, you won't be here today. He's the young man that called an ambulance when the accident happened". Elena said, smiling warmly.

William's eyes lit up as the realization dawned on him. "You... you saved me?"

Evan nodded, looking slightly uncomfortable with the attention. "I was just at the right place at the right time, sir".

William leaned forward in his wheelchair, his voice filled with gratitude. "I don't know how to thank you. If it weren't for you, I might not be here today".

"There's no need for that, sir," Evan said quickly, shaking his head. "I didn't do it for any kind of reward. I just did what anyone would do".

"But I insist," William said firmly. "You saved my life, young man. Please, let me do something for you".

Evan hesitated, glancing at the flowers in his hand. "I really don't need anything, Mr. Hart. I'm just glad you're okay".

William noticed the bouquet in Evan's hands and asked, "What are you doing here, then? Those flowers, are they for someone special?"

Evan sighed softly. "They're for my grandmother. She's in this hospital... down with cancer. She asked for some roses, so I picked them from my little garden".

"You're a gardener?" William asked, intrigued.

Evan nodded. "Yes, sir. It's how I pay for her treatment, but... it's not nearly enough".

William's expression softened as he considered Evan's situation. "You're a good man, Evan. And I think I might have a way to help both you and your grandmother".

Arianna's eyes narrowed. "Dad, what are you talking about?"

William ignored her, focusing on Evan. "How would you like to work for me? I'll pay you $10,000 every month. It's the least I can do for the man who saved my life".

Evan's eyes widened in surprise. "I... I don't know what to say. That's incredibly generous, sir, but I can't accept that much money".

"Nonsense," William said with a smile. "You deserve it. And besides, I could use someone like you around".

Arianna folded her arms, her voice cold. "Dad, we don't even know this guy. How do we know we can trust him?"

Lily shot her sister a glare. "Ari, don't be ridiculous. Mr. Evan saved Dad's life!"

"But $10,000 a month?" Arianna pressed. "We're already running low on money as it is".

Elena shifted uncomfortably, torn between the desire to support her husband's decision and the financial reality they were facing. "William, maybe we should discuss this later..."

"No, I've made up my mind," William said, his tone resolute. "Mr. Evan, the offer stands. Think about it".

Evan hesitated, glancing between the faces around him. Finally, he nodded slowly. "Thank you, Mr. Hart. I'll think about it".

"Good," William said with a satisfied nod. "Now, go take care of your grandmother. And remember, the offer is always there".

Evan gave a small, grateful smile. "I will. Thank you, sir". He attempted to leave, but William stopped him.

"Hold on".

He slid his fingers into the side pocket of his shirt, and brought out a little card.

"Here's my card. You can call me when you've made up your mind".

"Okay sir. Thank you so much".

As he turned to leave, Lily couldn't help but smile at him, though she noticed the tension in the air.

Arianna looked away, clearly displeased, while Elena gave William a concerned glance.

"Let's go. I need that rest". William said, and they all left.

When they got back home, William noticed some familiar cars parked in his compound. Still doubting, he called out to one of the bodyguards.

The bodyguard hurriedly approached him.

"Who has arrived?" William asked the bodyguard, who seemed a little uneasy.

"The Langstons' family sir". He responded nervously.

"The Langstons!?"

"Yes sir. They are here".
