Chapter 5 Gone

Ethan opened the file and was shocked by what he found. It was pictures of Kate the day they brought her to his house. His men where in the picture. The remaining pictures in the envelope, were of his men putting her into a black van.

After checking the pictures. Ethan picked up a letter that only had three words. "FIND THE DOCUMENTS"

How could this be? he had asked his men to be extra careful so they wouldn't be seen.

Who was this person? How did they know so much about everything?. He ran his hand through his hair in frustration.

Ethan had tried to find out who it was some months back, but it was to no avail, it always left him with more more Mystery begging to be solved.

Ethan was sure the mystery person was probably anticipating for him to find Kate after he saw the proof against her father. It was likely he was being watched. How could he be sure if the proof was real or fake now?. The nicholas he knew would never do such a thing, but the proof he had was making doubt creep into his heart.

He dropped the file on his mahogany table and stood up. Ethan checked his watches and saw he had a meeting in five minutes. He stepped out of the office and came across his secretary trying to arrange the files for the meeting. Ethan looked down at his watch again, then at her coldly. "Should I stand here and wait for you!" He said coldly to her.

Gina yelped, fear etched on her face, "I.. I'm so.. sorry sir" she stuttered, as she tried to arrange the files faster. Ethan walked out not waiting for her, and she rushed after him, almost tripping on her way. She glared at his back, as she ran after him into the conference room. would it kill him to be a little nice?...

Ethan sat in the conference room as the one of the directors gave a presentation. His mind wasn't in the room, only his body was. He was thinking of who could be sending him those files and pictures. Was it someone close to him? He wondered. The person even knew about Kate's whereabouts.

He could find her thanks to the information that was sent to him.

"Sir, Sir!" A voice brought his mind back to the conference room. "Is that all?" Ethan asked as he stood up, ready to leave, the man nodded, with a smile on his face. "Thank you for your time sir" The man who gave the presentation replied, as all the directors stood up ready to leave. their lunch break was almost over, but none of them dared to say a word. they didn't want to get on Ethan's bad side and Lateley he had been in a very bad mood. They didn't move from their position, as they waited for him to leave the conference room first.

Ethan nodded before walking out of the room, his secretary tailing behind him. "What's left on my schedule?" He enquired from her as they walked through the office hallway. He didn't feel like working anymore, his mind was too preoccupied to concentrate on work.

"That was your last meeting of the day, sir," she replied, as Ethan walked into his office. she glared at the door that was shut to her face. "He is so cranky!" she muttered as she walked back to her sit....

A few hours later, ethan sat in the passenger seat of his car with his eyes closed. The day had been exhausting for him, like every other day. He could feel exhaustion pressing down on his eyes and neck. he needed a hot bath and then maybe some sleep.

He wondered what she was doing in the house. She must be dreading staying there without having her freedom. A smirk appeared on his face. He imagined her living in happiness, while her was in sorrow. The feeling of guilt immediately seeped in his heart. What of if she is innocent of all this?. He shook the feeling off immediately, of course she was aware of her father's plot. The anonymous letter he received stated that she knew where her father kept the documents.

Ethan finally arrived at his house thirty minutes later. When he walked into the house, the living room was empty. She was probably still in her room.

She stayed cooped up there all day. He was sure she was avoiding him after he tried to choke her and also tried to injure her arm. She was scared of him, but Ethan didn't care about that. The butler came running to collect his coat as soon as he came in.

"Welcome home, sir," John said to Ethan, who replied with a nod.

"Did she try anything?" Ethan asked, trying to see if she had made a fit while he was gone. Even though he knew deep down that she didn't. His men would have alerted him if she did. "No sir, she hasn't come out of her room all day" The butler responded. a small smile of triumph appeared on Ethan's face as he proceeded up the stairs.

Ethan went up to his room to freshen up, and as he was coming back down for dinner, he stopped at her room door. He wanted to knock, but decided to open the door. he removed the lock after the night she locked herself in. Ethan walked in to find a perfectly made bed and an empty room.

"Kate, Kate!" He called out her name, but got no answer. "Lucas!" He yelled the name of the bodyguard assigned to her. In less than a few seconds, Lucas was in the room. The shock of not finding her in there was evident on his face. "How is this possible!" Lucas muttered in shock, his eyes wide with fear.

"Find her this instant, you fool," Ethan yelled, his blood boiling with rage.
