Chapter 4 Had They Just Been Intimate

For a moment, Selena was too taken aback to reply to Jayla.

She couldn't possibly explain to Jayla the intricate dynamics between herself and Kenneth. Their five-year marriage barely scratched the surface of genuine intimacy, making the idea of his assistance seem far-fetched.

Promptly at nine in the morning, the meeting of the board of directors commenced.

The intense discussions consumed several hours, and by the time Selena emerged, lunchtime had arrived.

Jayla, her face radiating pride, handed a document to Selena with a bright smile on her lips.

"You've masterfully navigated a significant project. You've not only silenced the directors but also brought substantial benefits to the company. The CEO must be impressed. You should look for him. Perhaps the two of you could have lunch together to celebrate!"

A wry smile briefly touched Selena's lips. Her recent triumph didn't offer much solace. The challenges of ensuring the Owen Group's place within the Powell Group loomed large, and she anticipated many such battles ahead.

She stared at the closed door of the CEO's office, took a deep breath, and walked closer.

As she prepared to knock, Giselle exited the room with blushing cheeks.

Upon noticing Selena, a flustered Giselle inquired, "What brings you here?"

Had they been intimate just moments before? Why else was Giselle flushing like this?

Selena's patience waned, yet she kept her composure, replying coolly, "Do I need your permission now? Step aside."

However, Giselle, abandoning her prior tenderness, defiantly blocked Selena's path.

"Miss Owen, I once believed you had both intelligence and pride. How you've proven me wrong!" Giselle's voice dripped with disdain.

"In Kenneth's heart, I've always been his one true love. Five unwavering years prove it. I said I was bored at home, and he instantly found me a spot here in the company. It's ironic, isn't it? We're peers now. Even without the title of 'Mrs.', I am the woman he truly sees as his wife." Giselle pressed on, "Why can't you just let us be? Don't you feel bad at all?"

Given Giselle's audacity and shameless behavior, any other woman would've been enraged and beat the crap out of her, considering she was a shameless mistress trying to provoking the wife.

However, Selena's primary concern at the moment was the welfare of the Owen Group.

Thus, Giselle's provocations didn't work on her.

With poise, Selena tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, looked pointedly at Giselle, and replied with a sly grin, "Honestly, I find amusement in your role as 'the other woman'. If you're so disgruntled, urge him to divorce me. Five years of being with my husband and you're still just the side piece? To an outsider, you might seem quite... undervalued."

Her blunt words sent Giselle's emotions into a tailspin, her face cycling from flushed to ashen. In a moment of fury, Giselle attempted to slap Selena.

But Selena was never one to take things lying down. Acting swiftly, she landed a slap on Giselle's cheek first, causing the latter to stumble backward.

Just then, a sturdy arm swiftly wrapped around Giselle's waist, preventing her fall.

"Ken!" Giselle's surprise was evident, but she swiftly masked it with a look of hurt, gazing at him imploringly.

"I'm sorry. I simply intended to congratulate Miss Owen on securing the big project. I wasn't aware she'd be upset."

Giselle's expression was one of utter dejection.

Upon seeing her swollen cheek, Kenneth's heart ached. Gently, he inquired, "Does it hurt?"
