Chapter 9 Patience Over

"Hi." I opened the door of the ward he was in.

He merely glanced at me before removing his eyes to focus them on the outside world through the window of the room he was admitted in.

It's been a week since the accident and he only woke up two days ago. But something had changed in him. He was no longer the nice guy with his signature confidence and arrogant smirk.

He was now without emotion. Blank. Also detached, as though he was not part of this world. He knew of his inability to walk. Unfortunately, my hopes had gone in vain. He was unable to use his legs for anything.

It was painful and distressing to know but I was devoted and determined to help him. Although from the way he had basically ignored my existence these past two days, it was as though I was responsible for his accident.

I stepped further into the room, my steps were wary and uncertain. "How are you?"

"I'm ready to leave this place." He replied instead, his tone cold and emotionless.

"Yes, we'll be leaving shortly." I would understand him. It was not easy to have such a life-changing event happen to anyone. He was possibly feeling mad and sad. The doctor had said he was free to go.

I could understand that it was not going to be easy not even for him. An accident that had left him crippled, that was enough to make anyone slink back from the world. It was enough to change anyone's personality.

He was possibly going through a lot of pain. Pain he would not talk about, though I wished he would. Patience, care and support, these were what he needed right now especially from me.

I had told Ellen to stay back and plan a small special 'welcome home' celebration for him. Not everyone could get into such fatal accident and come out alive. Accidents like the one that had happened to him had taken the lives of many unfortunate one.

He was alive. I did not lose him. That was enough to be grateful for. I went to gather the things he had needed since he woke up into the overnight bag I had brought with me.

I felt his eyes on me but I did not turn to look. I opened the food flask and released a sigh. I faced him then with a small smile.

"Was the food that bad?" I made an attempt at a joke.

"I was not hungry." Came his cold, serious response.

The smile vanished as I just gathered everything. I would dispose off the food when I got home and wash the flask. He had refused eating the hospital's food, I had thought it was because he did not like their food.

But I just learned it was not so. He just did not want to eat any kind of food. When I was done gathering everything I had brought from him that he had asked me to bring, I wheeled his wheelchair next to the bed and went for him next.

"Let's get you settled in the wheelchair." It was a tough one but I managed to have him seated in his new mode of transport.

Slinging the bag over my shoulders, I took hold of his wheelchair and pushed him out of the room. Managing the ride down the stairs, I took extreme care so he does not land face flat and roll hard to the base.

People knew him. He was a celebrity in the world of business. One could not become a trillionaire at such a young age without gaining popularity, power, influence and authority. So as I wheeled him through the corridors of the big hospital building, eyes were on us.

I realized that only made his expression harden more. I just ignored the looks and within minutes, I had him in the passenger seat, he strapped himself. I walked to the driver side and soon drove out of the compound.

"So, how are you?" I intended to strike up a conversation.

He said nothing, his gaze was fixed outside the window. His forehead was furrowed deeply and his lips were pressed tight. I cleared my throat and tried again.

"You should not be too sad Blake. On the bright side, you're alive. You made it. It shows how strong you are." I even spread my lips in a mile-wide smile.

Still nothing. This was not good if he was going to be this unresponsive. I did not want him to dwell in this situation of his. I had asked the doctor about his ability to walk again, the man had said it would take a miracle.

And if Blake could make the effort, he might stand a chance to. There was the probability that I was scared of myself. What if he never ended up walking again? Would I live this way forever? Being the wife of a crippled man?

To be honest, it was not an easy life to accept. I was young and he was young too. We were both too young for this. I cast a look at him, he was already feeling the weight of being crippled and he hated it. It was not rocket science to see he loathed it.

The doctor had privately told me to try my darnest to keep him positive and encouraged. To try to make him not see this as an unbeatable challenge but how could I achieve this if he was barely talking to me?

On one hand, I could count the words he had said to me these past two days and it was frustrating. I was trying my best to do as the doctor had said but all I was receiving was a collision with a cold, unmovable brick wall called silence.

Maybe when he saw what Ellen and me had planned for him, it would lift his mood. He would appreciate it and the atmosphere would be less tensed and more happy.

I drove in as soon as the electric gate opened to let me in after accessing my identity.

"We're home. Isn't that great Blake? You'll finally be rid of the hospital smell and bed. You have your..."

"Will continue yapping or will you get me into the house?"
